Ah, yes, I remember thinking there was no way I'd do that much work for a free night or two! I'm just too lazy!
Are y'all driving around my favorite country this summer? And will you use Arrival+ for cashback on the adorable BnBs/inns? Totally jealous-first year in 7 I won't be in Scotland!
We applied for it back when gold status with the card also gave you second night free. It was worth it back then. I’d go through the hassle today just because it has been so useful in the past.
I haven’t had a BA+ in some time. If I do go for getting under 5/24 I will apply for the BA+ again. I did have my mom get it and she will be able to wipe off her room stays.
We are doing a driving tour but we aren’t driving. We booked Inverness Tours for the third time now. Hugh Allison is the owner and also author of Culloden Tales. He also gave Diana Gabaldon an Outlander tour way back before the show and before these became popular.
I could happily go to Scotland every year!
Funny, I had that revelation when I went to Japan the first time. I was definitely not like my parents' neighbors and my long blonde hair was very interesting to them (this was way before the internet and blonde hair was rarely seen where they lived). It was both uncomfortable yet so helpful to realize how being so obviously different can affect you. Being Gaijin was not fun there (sort of how I feel about being a haole in HI I guess).
Our group of friends were stopped for photos in China. They had DH take the pictures since he is Asian (Vietnamese) and they assumed he was Chinese.
The Club Carlson card is a keeper for us as well! I had booked a Family Room at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh for three nights for our university scouting trip for DD. The rates were pretty high because we are going in August during the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (which we will be seeing for the second time). It turns out DH and DS are going to be flying to Scotland a day behind us because DS has a mandatory marching band camp for his HS marching band. I was able to cancel out the first night of our Family Room and book a standard room on points, which ended up saving us $660+! Any chance we are going to be in Edinburgh at the same time?
Nice redemption! Oh I’m jelly you’re going to see the Tattoo again! This is on my to do list. Go back during the Fringe Festival in August and see the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Maybe 2020 or 21. This time we are leaving near the end of June and coming back after the first week of July.
