FYI - the "NEWS" thread on DISchurners can actually HELP you keep up here. Since we started it 2 weeks ago, there have been approx 3,500 comments made on this thread. The NEWS thread on DISchurners identifies the 24 most important comments made out of those 3,500. Basically, if somebody hadn't read this thread at all for the past 2 weeks but only checked the news on DISchurners you would see all of the important stuff We're also including a link back to the relevant comment here on the boards so you could go directly there and follow any additional conversation that ensued.

That's a great point! It could be helpful a couple months from now if I want to revisit a conversation we had on a major topic! Searching on the DIS can be tough to find the exactly dates of the comments you want to read

I agree that the DIS is not a good place when you need to search for something said long ago. But I've been here for a long time and I'm just not comfortable on R. I do try to look over there and comment when I can, but mostly I can't find what I'm looking for there either. That's not your fault, it's likely just going to take me a while. Plus the chatter here is fun.

At my Kroger store this morning, all the black variable VGCs were pulled and there's signs up saying that VGCs would no longer to allowed to pay for WU mos at the money center. It specifically mentioned that the card would need to have your name printed on it (GCM here I come w my CIP?) in order to be used.

I bought a couple colorful VGCs that hadn't been pulled yet, changed the pin on them, and went to WM to do billpay with them and my first swipe was not accepted by the register and it was with a CSR who has done billpays for me in the past. I don't have a good feeling about this, but will try again. I had a VGC last week that got blocked for doing an mo, but after I called the 888 number and had the block removed, the same card worked fine a few days later for an mo at the same store same register.

Still no 1099's in my informed delivery. I got an email from TaxAct for 25% off if I use it by the 16th, thinking that might be my deadline.

Not sure if it's the same for TaxAct, but for TurboTax you can pay first without filing yet.

On the 1099 front, I was able to reconcile the 4 separate 1099s I received from Amex, so at least I don't need to call them to straighten anything out. Very happy about that! Dealing with Chase is way more than enough....

One of the rules of thumb for a successful approval of US Bank issued cards like the Club Carlson card is first placing a freeze on credit reporting from Sagestream (used to be IDA) and ARS (Advanced Resolution Systems). DH and I did this and we did it for my mom too and all three of us have the card. It involves sending a letter to each one with your information and requesting a freeze on the reporting.

Personally, I think it worth the hassle because this is one of my favorite AF cards that sits in a drawer. I absolutely love that we get 40,000 points each year and can let them pile up until we have need of them. I've used for for free stays in London, Dublin and Edinburgh over the years.

We currently have 2 nights this summer in Edinbrugh at the Radisson Collection Royal Mile in a premium room for 140,000 points. The room would be $770 for the two nights. After the 2 nights, we are heading to Inverness for one night at a Holiday Inn on points. Then the hotel options in Kirkwall, Lairg, Stornoway, Portreee, Tobermory and Lochgilphead were not bookable at the time I needed to book on any portal. I had to contact each hotel directly to get a room. So, I am happy to have those first three nights between Edingurgh and Inverness on points.

The Club Carlson card is a keeper for us as well! I had booked a Family Room at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh for three nights for our university scouting trip for DD. The rates were pretty high because we are going in August during the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (which we will be seeing for the second time). It turns out DH and DS are going to be flying to Scotland a day behind us because DS has a mandatory marching band camp for his HS marching band. I was able to cancel out the first night of our Family Room and book a standard room on points, which ended up saving us $660+! Any chance we are going to be in Edinburgh at the same time?

This is basically what I went through yesterday. I find it odd that they are requiring YOU to call them back (I was told the same). Shouldn't they be assigning case numbers and contacting us??

Funny, I had that revelation when I went to Japan the first time. I was definitely not like my parents' neighbors and my long blonde hair was very interesting to them (this was way before the internet and blonde hair was rarely seen where they lived). It was both uncomfortable yet so helpful to realize how being so obviously different can affect you. Being Gaijin was not fun there (sort of how I feel about being a haole in HI I guess).

My DD had a similar experience when she went to India with the family of a college friend. Especially in the more remote areas, people wanted to take their picture with her. She thought it was creepy when it was older men asking. We never felt that way in Hawaii though.

Once we cross the Sanibel causeway...it's island life for us! No hurries, no stop lights, no stress...just aahhhhmazing! People find it somewhat remarkable that I can both enjoy the craziness of a Disney vacation loaded with activity and the do-nothing pace of a Captiva Beach trip. They are about as opposite as could be and I love them both tremendously!

I'm probably giving away an identity verification answer here, but although we love Disney, Sanibel is my family's happy place, and probably always will be.

Me too. Although, honestly I love P-cola Beach and don't have a huge need to get sandy anywhere else. I feel quite blessed to live 20 minutes from my own definition of the perfect beach.

I called the 888 number and now I have to fax in a copy of my DL for them to remove the "fraud alert" that WM put on this card. *sigh* The rep told me that WM is doing this to gcs and the card needs to be registered for WM to accept as payments (this is just one rep so take it FWIW). I don't know if registering the card is going to be the solution going forward, but I will try billpay one more time, maybe tomorrow. I don't know if it's because I changed the PIN prior to trying to use it, or if WM registers are now wired to reject these unregistered vgcs. MSing is getting harder.

WU = Western Union, which is the service that the Kroger money center uses

Turns out the card I tried to use today was blocked by WM, similar to last week. I called the 888 number and now I have to fax in a copy of my DL for them to remove the "fraud alert" that WM put on this card. *sigh* The rep told me that WM is doing this to gcs and the card needs to be registered for WM to accept as payments (this is just one rep so take it FWIW). I was supposed to drive to my new office today to shadow someone. Yeah, it's 50 miles away. Didn't happen. And now we have a winter storm warning, so clearly I made the right choice!! Kare 11 still says it's wrapping up, and it's just a winter weather advisory, even though their app says the opposite.
