I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

The company is supposed to be contacting us within 4 days to help with relocating and I’ve started making a list of things we want in a house/neighborhood. I plan to mention we want to be in an established neighborhood with mostly permanent residents

I'm sure your relator will tell you but important things in Florida are windstorm insurance, windstorm mitigation, having a house "up to code" etc. Also banks won't give you a mortgage if you don't have your insurance lined up AND underwriters will halt EVERYTHING if there is trouble brewing in the Atlantic (I literally had the last policy written prior to a tropical storm for 96 hours before we bought our last house...and I didn't have a mortgage company to make happy). And even if you're in flood zone X consider flood insurance-the insurance companies AFTER a storm will play hot potato-the house is destroyed because of the windstorm, no, no it's from the water...etc. I don't want to scare you off but these are the things I didn't know before I moved here and 3 houses/18 years/several natural events later I'm glad I know.

Okay, back to the topic---I forgot my credit was re-frozen so no new card for me. I am completely off my game, lol! I suspect the universe is trying to tell me something:sad2:

@pillow and @havaneselover there are plenty of Kroger GCs at the Lowe’s behind Chesterfield Town Center. For some reason the associate wouldn’t let me do self checkout with mine, but whatever.

I also went by Staples to use up the last of my Amex offer on one card and bought $100 in Petco GCs. 20% savings came off immediately when scanned- no sale signage in the store. The cashier mentioned this was the first time he’d seen them do a sale on GCs that wasn’t just the no fee on VGC or MCGC. Maybe a sign of things to come?

Disney Hotels are BACK on AAVacations.com (tagging @Natgridenergy)

Also when you book...make sure you search for 1 adult and/or 2 adults only and check that miles price on that before you book to make sure you aren't being charged incorrectly. :teacher: That site can be WEIRD...here's some scenarios I priced out recently and watch how goofy it can get: (tagging @wendow)

DATES = Aug 11 - Aug 15th; Garden View @ Yacht Club

  • 1 Adult = 240,600 miles
  • 2 Adults = 240,700 miles
  • 2 Adults + 1 Child Age 0-5 = 240,700 miles
  • 2 Adults + 1 Child Age 6-9 = 245,500 miles
  • 2 Adults + 1 Child Age 10+ = 257,400 miles
  • 3 Adults = 257,400 miles
  • 2 Adults + 2 Children age 6 & 7 = 240,700 miles (so having 2 children costs less than 1??)
  • 2 Adults + 2 Children age 8 & 14 = 257,500 miles (so the older child costs something but the younger is free)
I can't actually figure out what is happening here...that's why I advise you to do a search on the 1 adult and/or 2 adult price. We know that adding kids should not add to your cost so don't pay more miles for nothing. As to all the goofiness above...I have no idea! I guess an option would be booking your kids as "4 years old" even if they're older just to get them on the reservation. Or you could book without kids and try to add later. Since you can't add dining or tickets it doesn't much matter. You want them on the room though if you're using EMHs I think.
So wonky! With MK PM EMH going bye bye (not really much "value" IMO based on the crowds I've experienced) it may not be as big of a factor. I do love my morning DHS EMH tho. Sundays :cloud9: Another thing to consider with having all guests on the actual room is DME. I know some hate it because of long waits, but I find the service so convenient. Its part of the reason I like choosing a WDW resort!

That’s awesome news!

I’m tracking some reported delays with Chase SUBs, so I’m wondering if you can help with when you hit MSR and when the SUB went pending? Thanks!

ETA: And is this referring to P2’s CIP from 1/19 and his referral bonus for your CIP#2?

Hi there, of course!

This is P2's CIP#1, and referral bonus for my CIP#2. We hit MSR about 3/10, and when I checked on 4/5, the SUB was pending.

DH was approved for CIP this morning. Our new strategy is he keeps the unsullied credit and is choosy about which cards he gets (SW biz and personal, Sapphire DD, Barclays and now CIP over 13 months) where I like to play the field (Citi, Skymiles plat, SPG, Altitude Reserve, Amex Hilton Ascend, US Bank Business cash, Amex gold in the last 12 months )

This makes me feel better! IDK why, but I feel like I get so paranoid that its not going to work after all the planning and tracking. Its not like I need these 80,000 URs immediately, it would just look nice having them all combined and showing an additional $800 or $1,200 when used towards travel in the UR portal LOL.

Sounds like your wife and I are only a day apart from meeting the final spend so hopefully the bonuses post around the same time.

My next plan was the CIC. I'm just shy of 3 months (opened the CIP on MLK day) so I was thinking 5/1 sounds good.

I get the paranoia, I'm there too! I was approved for CIP a week before you, got my bonus with the 2nd statement close, have referred DH and the 20,000 UR are pending for that. I am itching to go for CIP #2 soon but the bonus delay reports give me pause. I always seem to be on the tail end of the best rewards - DH got the CSR/CSP DD in August right at the end and we had to play with CL. I am concerned the CIP multiple SUBs will go away before I get there.

I was surprised the 80,000 UR were on my 2nd statement as I had NOT made the MSR as of statement close, was about $108 short when I added up the 2 statement totals and subtracted the $95 AF. But I had a pending charge which did not make it onto my March 13 statement, maybe that did it?

Did they have a lot. I wanted to get some Panera and my Staples had nothing. I think there are a lot of churners in my area buying them to resell. Ugh.

It’s called when the kids are grown and out of the house!!! And that just makes me sad......

I was not sad at all to have all the kids out of the house! I am sad that 2 of them are 3000+ miles away though. We only see them a few times a year. Planning to move to the DC area in a few years when our only kid left on the East coast hopefully has a baby. (and then I will have to start a moving to northern VA thread because I am clueless where to go!)

Gah - yes...how could I forget DME. Thank you so much!! I just edited (with credit to you of course :)) I wonder what would happen if I booked 2 adults and my daughter's age 3 and age 4 and showed up with a 9 year old and 6 year old, lol! I'm sure they'd just say 4 people...check! At any rate...it's a weird website so make sure you aren't paying more miles than necessary for nothing. :)

But can't we just book the room with no kids and call Disney wholesale to add like we used to do with UR's and still do with the PL deals?

I guess I'm going to Chesterfiled to spend $1300 this weekend. Thank you for checking and reporting back!

Follow up on the Kroger GCs: I just went grocery shopping and threw a $100 VGC in with my groceries. Went to pay for everything with a $200 Kroger GC and it wouldn’t go through. We took the VGC out and I was able to pay for my groceries. Then we tried to buy the VGC alone with the GC and it wouldn’t work either. I ended up not buying it. I hadn’t tried it before at this kroger, so could just be that my store won’t work. I have done it before at self checkout at the Kroger by my work with no problems. I’ll try that tomorrow.

@speedyfishy I didn’t look at any of the on sale GCs at Staples other than Petco, but they had plenty of those.

ETA: I think I used a Kroger GC to buy a Disney GC when I originally did this at the other store. So perhaps the stores are coded against using a Kroger GC for VGC? I’ll investigate tomorrow morning.

An interesting r/churning exchange regarding credit unions.

First some backstory - recently there's been an effort on r/churning by one particular user (and others assisting) to find every bank and credit card bonus out there that they could (many from obscure localized banks and credit unions).

Yesterday somebody shared this comment on r/churning about a $500 sign up bonus for $4,500 spend from a Baton Rouge credit union. Within an hour the website had crashed due to all the applications that were submitted: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/bb6kgs/discussion_thread_april_09_2019/ekicwzo/

Well in response, a user stated that they felt it was unethical for us to abuse a local credit union and actually reached out via email to somebody there to report what was going on: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/bb6kgs/discussion_thread_april_09_2019/ekjwde6/

Additional discussion ensued in today's Discussion thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/bbkov4/discussion_thread_april_10_2019/ekjzwiz/

I thought this was interesting and worth sharing. Much of the discussion surrounds a few ideas:
  • Each person in this game has to draw their own moral boundaries (i.e. do you only "abuse" big banks, would you hit up credit unions, will you have a "business", etc...)
  • Is it ok for one person to decide to police others with their morals by reporting something like this directly to bank management?
  • Should we treat smaller banks or Credit Unions differently than larger banks? Are they better (or any less "guilty" if that's your premise)?
  • Should it be the responsibility of the business to police their own terms and conditions and who they are approving?
If anybody has any thoughts on this exchange and how they approach these "issues" in the game, I for one would be fascinated to hear them. I think it's an interesting discussion topic for our group here :)

Reposting a comment I made for a related issue on DISchurners:

There have been lots of reports of Chase bonuses not going pending longer than usual, and these reports of delays aren’t limited to only MDD and CIPpy cup cards, but those are being affected too.

I don’t know if I can pinpoint when these delays started happening, but they might be inconsistent.

@Calfan recently reported that she met the MSR on P2’s CIP#2 on 3/20 and saw the SUB pending on 3/25. @FloridaNative8 just reported that P2’s CIP (I believe #1) SUB posted.

However, @CyndiLouWho posted last night that her mom hit the MSR on a CSP on or about 3/26, but is still not seeing the SUB pending.

@PolyRob reported that he met the MSR on his CIP#1 around 4/2, but his SUB is not yet pending.

The charge that put my P2’s CIP#2 over the MSR posted on 4/3, but the SUB is still not showing as pending as of this morning.

There are several reports of delayed SUBs on Reddit too:

If you have additional DPs to contribute, that would help!

I would agree with @SouthFayetteFan that if Chase isn’t going to award you a SUB because you applied for a card for which you didn’t qualify for the bonus, they have other mechanisms to do this, like with a pop up warning for the Marriott cards, denying an application as with the one Sapphire rule, or outright closing a card with the DD.

I’m going to keep tracking this potential issue, and just be patient personally. For folks working on MSRs for their CIP#2s, these reports of delayed SUBs is something to be aware of but I wouldn’t worry about it too much right now because it seems to be affecting plain old CSP and CF applications too. When Chase delayed SUBs last August-September, the SUBs did eventually post.
Like others, I met MSR on P2's CIP#1 on 3/27, and the SUB is not pending yet.

I agree with them. My CU is a non profit, they use .org. I'm a member, not a customer. They have criteria you have to meet to be a member, where you live and/or work. I don't want people that don't meet that essentially using my money to make their own. The CU has higher interest rates and I earn decently on my checking account too, something most big banks don't do/offer.

From their site -
CU is more than an alternative to a traditional bank; we're a credit union, a not-for-profit financial institution whose members are our stakeholders. We work hard to not only save you money, but help you earn more too.

I'm all for bank bonuses and stuff but it's also the difference between a for profit and a non profit. I'm sure they have bonuses worked into their budget but that doesn't mean that it's a huge part because they don't expect it to get abused. But i2 also don't doubt that they'd deny you membership if you don't meet thwir2 criteria.

So you're more than welcome to get a bonus from my CU if you want to move your accounts there. They have great customer service, offer discount perks to stuff sometimes, are very involved in the communities they are in and are good to do business with.

Thanks for sharing this. I totally agree with what you're saying.

I once earned a bank bonus one time from a local CU here in Pittsburgh back in 2016. Clearview FCU - DoC posts about their checking bonus every so often. I found a coupon for a $200 bonus on our Kennywood Map (local amusement park). Both my wife and I did it and then 9 months later or whatever, we had to go into the branch to close the account. I felt SO dirty closing that account...and at that time I stopped doing local bank bonuses. It just didn't sit right with me...I wouldn't impart my morals on others and I wouldn't take it upon myself to blow the whistle on such activities, but I for one will not participate now.

I’m conflicted on this. I haven’t gotten any credit cards from a credit union. Part of me feels like I shouldn’t. They are much better than big banks especially for lower income individuals who seem to be abused more by bigger banks. I’d feel a little guilty. Idk if that will necessarily stop me from getting cards from them but they aren’t on my list right now. I did open a credit union account to fund $2500 with a credit card before. I guess that is abusing them.
