Minimum spend question: I have a 2k MSR on the AA biz card with a $200 AA statement credit. I have spent $2k but it includes an AA flight. When the statement credit posts, will I have met the MSR or no? do I need to spend $200 more?

Well that’s reassuring lol. My SIL looked up Huntsville and it says it has 105% more crime than the national average and is only 3% safer than other us cities. That’s scary

Stats are misleading things. One can make stats state anything. There are so many different parameters used. Usually those numbers are within the city limits, not the entire metro. You would most likely rarely even go into the city very much. Real people that live there, like your relatives who love it and feel very secure, are the best sources to get a feel for the livability of a place. I assure you, you would have nothing to worry about!:)

How does Huntsville compare to Orlando and other cities you are willing to move to?

In addition to what @BamaBoy said, you need to compare the types of crime an area has to other similar size cities. Some very nice, medium size TX cities have a higher crime index but it’s petty theft type stuff. You know, you leave your garage door up and someone steals your tools kind of thing. Even if there is a lot of that going on, I’d rather live there than where people are being murdered. And yes, the burbs will almost be safer. Denver has a high crime index but we are in the burbs and ours is below the national avg.

Fidelity reminder!

For everyone that opened the $200 Fidelity brokerage/checking account combo last June, it's been 9 months so it should be safe to move the money out now.

(duty done. :teeth:)
Thank you!! Been meaning to go check the dates on the account.

I’m not interested in going back to Mexico either. Appears to be a cesspool of crime now. I can sit on a beach and I love water sports but I’m just not interested in getting shot or beheaded. So I’ll go somewhere else. Plenty of other places in the world :)

I do not like Mexico at all, and was SUPER bummed when our EC Disney cruise in November 2017 was switched to WC because of the hurricanes (which I totally understood)... I would rather have had 2 days at Grand Cayman, and 2 at Castaway Cay. I don't find the beaches in Mexico pretty at all - and I realize I'm a bit biased because I grew up with amazingly gorgeous beaches in the Florida Panhandle, but the beaches in Mexico left a lot to be desired.

SO got an email today that his two “cancelled” cards shipped. The app is saying the green card is cancelled still. I never had the chance to link his delta card. It would be nice is someone could actually talk to him regarding the complaint we filed.

I looked up some pictures and it's pretty... but I go and sit on the beach for one day each year when a work conference takes me to the oceanfront, and that's enough to satisfy all of my beachgoing needs for the next 365 days lol.

Different strokes for different folks! I would go to the beach every day if it were convenient. But, I don't sit often on hot beaches middle of the day. I'm more of a sunrise in summer or late evening beach goer in the summer. But when it's cool or cold, I still want to go to the beach and will bundle up and walk pretty much any day that the wind won't blow me out to sea.

Finally got the Mastercard offer for Safeway this morning. They also sent me $6 of $60 offer and I do have some groceries to pick up so will use this offer as well.

Citi, right? If so, you should be good with MSR.

It may not be time yet! The offer stated that the qualifying amount ($50-$200, depending on how much you deposited) needed to remain in the account for 9 months after the date on which the bonus was posted. I received the bonus on July 3 so I can't move the money out until April 4. (& those 9 months feel like a lifetime ago... I don't think I was even posting here yet :rotfl:)

Me too. No interest at all. I have very little interest in the "hot tourist spots" in the Caribbean, too. You'd think that because they're so well-traveled, they'd be safe, but no. There are so many horror stories these days. I can't enjoy myself if I don't feel reasonably safe.

:offtopic: Luggage Recommendations

What do you guys recommend for a full sized suitcase for DW? The bag she currently has is old and weighs a ton empty. Looking for good size and lightweight. Thanks!!

We're still not sure if we're going to be putting our house on the market in the next couple of months, but we'll be doing some work to the house and the contractors take CCs.

My last card was opened in 11/18 and DH's last one was 12/18. If one (or both) of us were to open a new biz card, would this be a negative if we need to apply for a mortgage?

We closed his CIP a few weeks ago. How long do I need to wait to apply for a CIP for him before they would just reopen his closed one?

Couple of questions for the "professionals" in here.

I am working on a 2 player strategy with my wife.

I am sitting at 3/24 I think:
AA Advantage Personal 9/17
Jetblue Personal 11/17
Amazon 7/18 (I know awful decision)
Chase Ink Business 2/19

Wife has 3/24 too if I am understanding correct
Alaska Personal 2/18
SW Personal 4/18
SW Biz 10/18
Barclays aviator 2/19

We both have Chase Reserve cards open before that time period as well as some other cards.

I am about to refer her for the Chase ink business card to get 20k referral for me and 80k signup for her....my question is I know the recommended waiting period between Chase cards seems to be 3 months but since we are both under 5/24 should I be looking at something else non-chase in the meantime to maximize right now? Organic spend should not be much of an issue. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/tips!

This thread is awesome and has already helped me a lot.

Hi and Welcome....since your DWs last Chase application was in October...you are fine to refer her to the CIP now.

If you are also looking for a new card to open...yes 3 months is the recommend time between Chase applications....so once you are past that you could apply for the other Chase business cards...CIC ....CIU...or a 2nd CIP with a referral from your wife

I'm so torn about getting a Platinum. I can pull the 75k offer, but MSR will be a stretch since I just took the Lux upgrade. I wish DH could pay for more of his travel.

Safeway is running a $10 off two $50 MCGCs and $15 off two $100 MCGCs until 4/9/19. If you and Zack each add these deals, that’s ~$600 of spend.

This is what @SouthFayetteFan was able to dig up:
The whole 30 days thing is somewhat of a myth but I still think it’s good in practice if possible. I believe people on r/churning have applied as quickly as a week later with no issue but I couldn’t actually pull any hard DPs on that without doing some deep searching. There was some discussion around this exact topic back when the 48 mo restriction on Sapphire was put in place so maybe I’ll try to find that thread on r/churning from the fall.

I found that thread but it’s mostly discussing that you have to wait 3 days after a PC to reapply for that same card (ie if you PC a CSP to CF you can’t reapply for CSP for 3 days).

I bet it’s fine to reapply within a week of cancelling (heck it may be fine within 2-3 days). Some of the “rules” we abide by are moreso guidelines that aren’t founded in any truth haha. I think the 30 day rule may be one of them. I’ve never seen an actual DP of somebody’s cancelled Chase card being reopened.

ETA: And @elgerber works in mortgages, so she could probably answer your question about the effect of a hard inquiry.
