The more I think about this, the more I think that any real life acquaintance that I've known getting married in the Caribbean... got married in Jamaica :confused3 DHs friend had someone who invited him to theirs, and he declined due to cost. Then a bit later he ran into the groom's father who he'd known a long time, and were chatting, and the father went on a whole thing about how the wedding was such a great deal because if they got X number of people to book stays at the resort, the wedding/reception/bride and groom's stay was all free. They had to buy wedding clothing and get there, but about everything else was covered.

That doesn't surprise me. Way back I think it was something like book category x or above and it would cover your ceremony, flowers and cake. We had a groups department so they could have done something similar back then but any that we dealt with were generally couples only, maybe had a few friends going but the resort will provide the witnesses too I'm pretty sure. It may also have to do with laws down there, I don't recall them requiring a blood test or any information about getting the marriage license, so maybe the resort sets up getting the license. Where I remember a blood test being a requirement for Hawaii. I vaguely remember somewhere, maybe Jamaica but it could have been another island or Hawaii due to the blood test, that you have to be there x number of days before you can legally get married, I think it was only 3.

I would guess because there's more focus on couples/adults only resorts in Jamaica and almost all resorts are all inclusive that those are the incentives for people that want to get married. A lot of the other islands are more family resorts, there's more to do safely off property etc. I also think Jamaica itself, if not the resorts too, are for sure at wedding shows promoting weddings and tourism. It's the one destination, aside from Hawaii, that seemed to be booked for weddings when others were noting honeymoons.

My cousin didn’t get married in Jamaica but they had their honeymoon there and made it a family thing. I thought it was a little strange to invite family to a honeymoon but I didn’t go anyway

That's just weird. If they were a blended family or had kids before they got married I could understand including the kids but to include extended family in a honey moon is different. As long as they had fun, sounds stressful to me.

All this Alabama talk is making me want to move there lol! Been driving around Orlando all day, and just like a year ago when I was out here to explore moving here, I’m not convinced I’d actually want to live here.

I will tell you that we are perhaps the best kept secret in the country. Great, great people and communities, all four seasons weather wise but shorter winters and longer summers, about the lowest cost of living in the country, and a great quality of life. Most people that put us down have never been here, much less lived here. My location is in the mountains (yes we have mountains, not just cotton fields) with tons of streams, creeks, rivers, and lakes. We even have paved roads and running water! :D We are 60 miles from Birmingham and 90 from Atlanta. You can be in the Smokies in 4 hours and Gulf Coast beaches in about 5. Today it is sunny and 72, tomorrow will be sunny and 74, Saturday sunny and 77 (I am working on my forecast now as I am a TV weather forecaster). :)
And the best part is being only about 90 miles from Tuscaloosa-home of the Crimson Tide (but also 90 from Auburn :worried: Boo!)

I wasn't ready to go there yet...but make it happen man!! I hold out hope that the agent was correct and that it will fix itself hopefully soon.

I can't get the chase UR portal to work at all the last 2 days.
Me neither - gotta love it. How am I supposed to check 3 times a day if Disney Resorts came back or not?? I've been deprived of a lot of sadness here...

Sounds lovely! Definitely something for us to consider. I think from the dialect quiz chatter, I might fit in okay :D

Strange...I had no problem. Just booked a flight for DD to come home for a quick weekend before starting her summer employment.

I was reading all of this and about to say, the only bad thing is you're in the same state as the Crimson Tide... then I got to your last line. Clanga clanga!

I’m seriously kicking myself for not just taking a chance on another card before this week. We’re going to look at used vans this weekend (and hopefully purchase), we need about $600 in new car seats, and we need to buy about $700-800 worth of bathroom fixtures for the remodel and I have no MSR to meet! Any cards with a good chance of instant approval and expedition that aren’t chase?

Amex is almost always a sure bet for instant approval as long as you haven’t already been approved for 2 other Amex credit cards in the past 90 days, don’t already have 5 Amex credit cards, and you’re not on Amex’s naughty list. However, the only card that Amex automatically expedites is their Platinums. Amex almost never expedites their co-branded cards because they need to verify your membership info with the co-brand loyalty program. (You also just missed the Bonvoy Biz at no annual fee in the first year, $95 AF second year, which ended yesterday; the fee on this card raised to $125 today, not waived.)

My AmEx card feels like its taking forever to arrive. I got the approval last Wednesday or Thursday and was told 5-7 business days, but probably sooner. So far nada.

I was auto approved for my 2nd CIP on the weekend -- should've called to have it expedited -- it's still not here either. I was hoping to put board for dd's horse on the CIP, but since it's due on the 1st that's not looking likely :worried:.

Totally :offtopic: but I'm thinking of staying at the soon-to-be-opened Waldorf Astoria Maldives next spring (if I am lucky enough to snag a room at 120,000 pts / night). Looks amazing. Just need another 113,000 HH points. I'll have to book a few more stays at Hilton properties to make this happen. Goals!

We have had horrible experiences this year with youth hockey families from Birmingham. I mean they are downright nasty. I guess losing brings out the worst in people.

Hail State! Clanga clanga Though they totally messed up my bracket. Had too much faith in them.

My brother in law works at Red Stone and lives in Madison, I will agree that it is a very nice area.

One of the safest cities in the South. Of course you will probably want to live in Madison, just west of downtown out by the US Space and Rocket Center. Also great areas north of downtown like Toney, Harvest, Hazel Green, New Market, etc. depending upon where his job is. Where were you born in Alabama?
Okay I guess I’ll consider Alabama lol. I was against it because I’m in that crowd that’s heard not great things about the state but I think I need to give it a chance. PLUS, it’s what Dh would want to do most: space related programming. That’s his absolute dream job. I’ll write down the areas you mentioned. I will say that my parents hope to move to gulf shores sometime and that would be so nice to be that close.

I was born in mobile

Are there neighborhoods in that area with pools? That’s kind of a big deal to me
