I mean, I don't want to say they're all like that or anything. But I thought that was a pretty interesting deal.

No, it would definitely make sense for them. They do ok, but don't make a ton of money and just bought a house a couple months ago. They've been talking about doing a destination wedding for a while but we thought they'd scrap that plan once they bought a house, but clearly they haven't.

Wouldn’t they close all his accounts then?

Also, I’m pretty sure they haven’t called him. If they have they didn’t leave a message or anything.

Happened to a close friend recently and yes they shut down the card (they only have 1 AMEX) and called. It was legitimate spending, too. The outcome was her DH also got a Plat Biz for his business spending (which had ramped up their personal by a ton a triggered the FR). He got 75K for it. When they heard we got 100K he called and tried to get it, too, but they refused to match.

it would freeze your accounts... not close them though. have u tried calling them?

I hate calling, but sometimes it's the only way to get things resolved. I really do hate it, though.

Well Dh got the dreaded email....no job offer in Orlando. I feel so bad because he’s been waiting so long only for them to say no. He did get a call from a manager at the same Orlando location today about a different position. We aren’t sure how that’s gonna go

I am so sorry - I know you both really wanted this. I do think it sounds promising if someone he met is interested in talking to him!

Nope you're not...I don't watch vulgar/violent/otherwise 'nasty' themed stuff.... I just don't tolerate stuff like that well. I like gentle, good humored, relaxing tv. (the worst I got was watching SVU for a couple of years which stressed me too much so I quit) I can't watch anxiety producing movies and tv at all.

I am the same way. Can't explain how or why, but I can watch GoT (ok, I fast forward certain parts). I think it's because the story line is so compelling and interesting and because I don't feel it's real since it's not set in our world (ex. dragons). Also, I love the scenes from Iceland and Dubrovnik. I can't watch medical or cop shows though.

Another possible use for Hilton points... There is a Hilton Garden Inn opening up across the street from the Marriott my grandpa stayed in last time :)

Love your avatar pic! It's just adorable.

Sorry he didn’t get the job. Did he have a coding test? SO frequently had those when he was looking for a job and he got so many rejections because of them. A big 4 software engineering company in Mountain View CA has been emailing him and calling him for the past month. He thinks he will fail the coding challenge. I think he may reach out tho. He interviewed with them when he was a new grad but after the coding challenge they called him to say the positions have been filled for his class. I think that was a nice way of saying you failed the coding challenge lol.

That company is not far from me. Let me tell you that they have no issue in wasting people's time. They will pull you in for an interview, then another, then another, and then never call you again. It's happened to so many people I know. They are very inconsiderate with people's time. Can you tell I am not a fan? And no, I'm not one of these people who have tried to work there and go through all of that. Also, the HCOL here stinks. If I didn't have extended family and a house here I don't think I'd live here. Well, if I didn't already have the house I guess it wouldn't even be an option. But I wish you guys the best of luck if you do want to move here. I haven't tried MSing so I can't comment on Lain's post.

@wanderlust7 - See what you've done? DISboards is displaying Post Ranch Inn banners at me!

Hey, there are worse things you could be seeing. I keep seeing ads for men's underwear and dental implants. I have no idea why since neither is something I generally discuss or shop for online. I'd welcome an add for Big Sur. We had to be there for a wedding and I was in sticker shock when I was looking up hotel rates. Crazy! Luckily my cousin has a home there in the national park and offered us a place to say.

He can come over and watch it at our house.

Down side of that show? Family birthday cake requests are getting more complicated - I mean, if these crazy brits can turn out these gorgeous desserts, Mom should be able to do it too, right?

There's another down side. DD wanted to watch it as a family when she was home for winter break. DH and I both gained several pounds. I never crave sweets and I kept wanting some pie or cake. DH came home one night and made cinnamon rolls. I would say that's a downside. :rotfl:

Also, I do cringe when nice people get eliminated. It's real and I feel sad about it. Much worse than when someone is set on fire by dragon fire.

The banks definitely frown upon getting points and closing within the first year. I really don't see the point of it either. She already paid the fee, why the hurry to close the card? If she keeps it for 1 year, she will get anniversary points added to her SW account. She can then cancel the card and get the 2nd fee refunded. She still paid $69 for the card but at least she will get 3000 points for it in return. Also, most likely she will not have exact points needed for a flight. What if she is a few points short, putting spend on the card is an easy way to get more points if needed. I see no plus side to cancelling the card right away.

Ok thank you! I had forgot about the option to let the 2nd annual fee post and then cancel.

I agree. We stayed at the Hilton next door and what I love about Aruba is the freedom to walk up and down the beach or grab a bite or a drink at a different resort. It’s incredibly safe and clean. At the Hilton there were no wristbands the only thing was you needed your room key to use the restrooms by the pool. You’d be fine.
oh even better. I have beaucoup Hilton points and DH has status. sold.

eta: which tower do you suggest?

Split Stay FP Update:
According to the FP+ FAQ thread (https://www.disboards.com/threads/fastpass-frequently-asked-questions.3491680/)

You can once again book FPs across split stays. :) It was "repaired" this week on Tuesday it seems. Who knows if this is permanent or not but I know a lot of people here cared about this (especially since sometimes using points we have to book split stays).

In unrelated news - no improvement to the useaamiles or aavacations websites with Disney availability. :(
Guess I’ll get this rolling...

It's odd they don't have a resort because that could be a factor for a lot of people. If they get married at a couples/adults only resort then anyone with kids would have to stay elsewhere and then travel to the resort, if the property lets kids attend the weddings. Or if they want to go but can't afford that resort the same. I have no desire to go to Jamaica either and wouldn't be comfortable traveling between resorts. I remember there used to be pretty good deals for getting married at the resorts but who knows if it's still that way. You used to also be able to get free china for going on your honeymoon if you spent a certain amount. I can't remember if this was sandals or the other adults one I can't remember. Hopefully they aren't getting married at one of the hedonism resorts, though I don't remember if they offered weddings since it's more of a honeymoon type place. Jamaica just doesn't seem like a friendly wedding destination to me compared to other places in the caribbean.
My cousin didn’t get married in Jamaica but they had their honeymoon there and made it a family thing. I thought it was a little strange to invite family to a honeymoon but I didn’t go anyway

I'm not @BamaBoy but my parents have lived there for 18 years (I think). They love it and I'm having the darndest time trying to convince them to move to paradise (Pensacola) before something traumatic happens and it will be a big pain to move them (sigh, parents).

They like it because it has a large segment of educated people (not my judgment, theirs)-engineers, NASA geeks, university folks, etc as well as a small military base (arsenal) and resulting military facilities-pharmacy, commissary, etc. It has four seasons, albeit not as cold as the North/Midwest gets and for big medical needs, Nashville (Vanderbilt) isn't too far away, nor is Birmingham. There are some arty things they enjoy (sorry, not my interest so no idea what) and again, Nashville is two hours away so DF can go up annually and watch UGA beat Vandy.

Although they are obviously older, there also seems to be a lot of young families in Huntsville as well (mom is always babysitting or doing MOPS classes). If you like (pork) barbeque, it's good for that (although, ahem, barbeque is beef, obviously).

Clearly, I'm no expert but they've lived all over the world and this is the longest they've chosen to live anywhere (and they were 2 small town Midwest folks in the day). So it might be worth consideration.
I think the above is a fair description. I live about 2 hours south and I can tell you it is one of the most desirable areas of the state. Growing like wildfire. New Mazda plant perhaps?
Huh thank you for that! I was actually born in Alabama but I only lived there until I was 3 so I don’t remember it. Is Huntsville a pretty safe area? I know most towns have their bad areas but some towns we’ve looked at have been terrible

I'm being picky. I want a specific flight and specific plane config. I could get something with less miles in economy or a different flight but I don't want 2 stops or crazy times. I just disappointed/frustrated that last year the same exact flight was 67.5K and is now 110K. I wasn't even trying for savers since last year this was the AAnytime rate.

Plans B-Z - I'll look at cost in URs on Chase and maybe use AA for hotels! Or jump on the train. Haven't done any AA personal cards yet so there are options. Or use SW with my CP.

I totally get that, especially for a long flight. I generally try for the same thing, although this latest trip we booked was so late for J-class to Europe that we just grabbed whatever seemed to be the best deal.

At least you all are getting Hilton and Post Ranch ads, all I ever get are dental implant ads. Its so weird, I'ver never had a cavity in my life and I can't figure out what was googled that brought them up. They kinda gross me out.

YES!!! Same here. Not one cavity. They actually freak me out and increase my anxiety level a ton. Just yuck.

One of the safest cities in the South. Of course you will probably want to live in Madison, just west of downtown out by the US Space and Rocket Center. Also great areas north of downtown like Toney, Harvest, Hazel Green, New Market, etc. depending upon where his job is. Where were you born in Alabama?

I think for the most part yes. I am quite an infrequent visitor but can tell the good areas from the less desirable fairly easily. My parents have lived in 3 different houses and now are downtown and I don't worry about their safety except when they're driving (because they're old and clueless, lol).

@BamaBoy- my father used to work in Madison-it's very nice and so close to the airport :)

I would say that most areas of downtown are very safe as well, especially South Huntsville in the area of Grissom High School toward the Tennessee River and also on the east side by Huntsville Hospital going up on Monte Sano Mountain. I have a cousin that is a dentist in Madison and they actually live in Athens which is across I-65, but would be close if he is working in Madison/Red Stone Arsenal/Jetplex area.

I’m seriously kicking myself for not just taking a chance on another card before this week. We’re going to look at used vans this weekend (and hopefully purchase), we need about $600 in new car seats, and we need to buy about $700-800 worth of bathroom fixtures for the remodel and I have no MSR to meet! Any cards with a good chance of instant approval and expedition that aren’t chase?
