Excited about 54?Raining and 39 here! I see 54 next Friday in the forecast!!!! I cannot wait!
I’m going to jump right in to get a few more details to get started.
Does DD have any banking relationship with Chase?
Does DD have any side hustle that makes her some money, like selling things on eBay, Craigslist, Facebook; pet sitting or dog walking; baby sitting; tutoring; consulting or contract work; driving for Uber or Lyft, or delivering things for Amazon, Instacart, or Doordash; make crafts or other goods to sell at craft fairs, bake sales, or online at Etsy, etc.? I’m wondering if she has anything that might qualify her for a business credit card.
For some reason your account doesn’t allow PMs (private messages) here on the DIS. Would you be interested in joining our DISchurners reddit group?Looking for card recommendations. (trying to follow the guidelines on first page)
We have not applied or received new CC in the last 24 months
We spend approximately $2000/mo, we charge everything we can
We Pay In Full each month, we do not carry any balances.
We fly out of CLE (Cleveland) or CAK (Akron Canton)
We have a SW Visa (direct flights have become severely limited)
Our goal is free/discounted flights
We are a family of 4
Thank you.
pretty sure DHs is "lost" on his deskThis made me recall that Amex sent me that beagle 2.0 one. Has anyone used theirs?
I googled it after seeing it here, hadn't heard anything about it before that. You'd think a large plane crashing in the US would be bigger news...

Credit Karma doesn't factor in closed accounts which the FICO algorithm does. If you close a card it will stay on your credit report for an additional 10 years and count towards your Average Age of Accounts that whole time. Don't use Credit Karma for anything other than checking pulls or utilization numbers. If you want actual FICO numbers you can get them from Discover Scorecard, or just about any of the cards you already have. The biggest bump for AAoA is at 2 years, there is a smaller bump at 5 years.Mine is around 7 years cause I only have 2 cards over 10 years old. Discover and a barclays aa. Those won't get cancelled anytime soon or it'll shorten it more. Credit karma shows how much it matters, I don't think it was a big one but I'd rather have 7 than 2.
That's where mine was. Under paper on my desk. I got up and swished around looking for it when @gottalovepluto mentioned it.
I want a business card too. So this is good to know. At first I was concerned that I would have to give proof of ownership.

That would totally work! However, he has a “business,”Go to Amex’s Refer A Friend site and log in with the profile that your SPG card is on. If available, you should see the ability to generate a support link that’ll earn your Marriott account 20k points for every approval.
Copy that support link and paste into an incognito window or another browser. You should see the message that you’ve been referred! There should be an option to click that you’re looking for a business card. Because you’re referring from a SPG card, the only options for referral are to other SPG/Bonvoy cards. When you click the option for a business card, you should see the option to apply for the Bonvoy Biz. Click it, verify it has the 100k points for $5k MSR offer, and apply. Do all this navigating from the window you opened with your support link. Don’t close the window or navigate away.
(I’m assuming you plan to apply DH for the Bonvoy Biz while it still has a waived AF first year and $95 AF second year until 3/28/19. Right?)
thanks so much!@MarBee - I should also note that since DH has his own SPG Amex card, he can do the same thing outlined above, generate a support link from his own account, and use his link in incognito or another browser to apply, effectively self-referring himself to the SPG Biz. This way, the 20k support bonus goes into his Marriott account, and the 100k SUB will eventually go into his account.
Either way works, and it just depends where you want those 20k support points — your account or his. Marriott has made transferring points between accounts more difficult since the merger. You can only transfer a max of 100k points/year by calling in (no option to do it online), and there’s a $10 fee (unless you’re Gold status or higher).
Discover would be good, a card from wherever her primary banking is would be good. If she is going to pay it off every month an AMEX Gold could be a consideration. If you go over to Discover Scorecard you can sign up there and get an actual FICO score. That would be a good indication of what she might have available to her. For maximum scoring efficiency she needs three revolving lines of credit and one installment. Student loans and the auto loan cover the installment. Chase usually likes to see 1 year of card history before they will start approving without a prior relationship. Discover and Capital One is where most people start, she could get a Platinum from Capital One and in three months convert it to a Quicksilver with 1.5% cash back. Thanks for the welcome! She does not have any relationship with Chase. SHe does not have side hustle as Marriott keeps her busy about 60 hours a week! lol
