Thanks for the replies. I am pretty sure we are going to get the vaccine. I also know someone who has had shingles, and have heard of a few others (one with serious, long-term consequences), so even if the current vaccine is not ideal, it is for sure better than shingles.

I agree that "eating plan" is a better way to think about food than a "diet." A few years ago, I read a lot about carbs and how not all calories are processed the same way. It helped to steer my food choices in a more sustainable way. And I was pleased to learn that eggs had gotten a bad rap. Of course, too much of anything is probably unhealthy, but my impression of eggs had been that they were really bad, so I was happy to learn that they are not. (Now if people would just start posting about eggs instead of Poptarts!)
Sorry, I can’t remember the last time I ate an egg that wasn’t incorporated into something like cake, brownies. I’m pretty sure it was before 5th grade when we hatched baby chicks and that was the end of eggs for me. I didn’t even eat French toast until again until I was pregnant with DS.

For those of you who have gotten a pop-up but then later were able to escape it and carry on... how long did you wait between attempts? (I know there are no hard and fast rules... merely trying to get a feel for what others have done). I know each attempt is tracked (at least, I THINK I know that each attempt is tracked), so I don't want to seem too desperate, but I also don't want to wait any longer than necessary. Just looking for some others' experiences.

DH had this last year when I was trying to get the SPG Biz for him. I was on a deadline to get the higher bonus so I know I applied all 4 times in a 6 week span. But as always YMMV and the rules change without notice. Right now I am in pop-up jail as well.

From my post : "Here is my DP. I was able to get 2 AMEX earlier this year easy peasy. Referred DH to Hilton Biz and auto approval. He/We met MSR quick and then sock drawer the card. Referred him to SPG biz when the offer went up and got the pop-up. After hearing to put some spend on the card, I did about $200 in normal spend on the card (some GC) and kept applying. In all applied 4 times before the pop-up went away. Instant approval. So the pop-up doesn't mean anything to approval or denial. Just has to do with getting the bonus. Agree with others, there is no specific known amount to charge to get the pop-up to go away. Just put some spend on the current card(s) and keep trying. Good luck. "

Oh Amex...guess you have to monitor how the people you refer to behave now too

Looks like Amex took back this person’s MR from a referral for abuse becayse the person they referred to closed the card in under a year. Updated ToS indicates you also cannot get a referral bonus if someone who has the card already uses your link.

Didn’t u/WalterBoudreaux claim to have gotten shut down by Amex last month? I remember his handle, his crazy DPs, and constant updates during that time. I don’t think Amex reinstated anyone. Could be a fake DP.

Not saying Amex can’t or won’t do it. If this DP is real or something like this happens, it sucks because it opens you up to “rewards abuse” and therefore potential shutdown by Amex because of the actions of someone else.

So the implication is you better know who you’re referring and that they’re not going to play games with the card they’re opening with your referral. Amex updated the terms of their referral program recently, and it says referrals are meant to be shared with “only your interested personal friends, family and known acquaintances” and “You should not publish or distribute your referral links in locations where the audience is likely to include individuals you do not know.” (Emphasis added.) There’s also language that “You are not eligible to participate in the Refer a Friend program if you have a history of referring friends who cancel their Card within their first three months of Card Membership.”

That post is also concerned about another term: “You cannot earn a Referral Bonus for those who already currently have the Card you recommended or for individuals who have been referred by someone else.” As the discussion points out, this term is not currently enforced and points are still awarded for such referrals, but Amex could decide to go after churners who refer a P2 to multiples of the same cards that lifetime language makes them ineligible for the SUB, but from which P1 would get the referral bonus. (Amex is already going after self referrals, regardless whether to new cards or duplicate cards.)

But I recall reading something about making certain your healthcare covers it as it’s expensive so double check you have coverage & are getting it done at the right location before getting the shot.
Yeah, I still need to follow up on Shingles. I asked my Dr and she said she doesn't do them due to insurance issues. I have to call my health advocate and have them navigate through the insurance and let me know how to do this.

At this point I’m saying screw it and going on about my business. (Obviously the P2 thing doesn’t affect me but if it does anyone here I wouldn’t keep large balances of MRs sitting around just to be safe). I’m keeping my links out there. If Amex claws it back because some dumb person closed their card before the 12 month mark so be it, you win some you lose some. I like to think people who’ve gone deep enough to use a link know enough to know with Amex they’ll lose their bonus if they close before 12 months. It’s discussed here & written in the bonus fine print.

Amex just doing their thing...geez! I feel like I can understand this one, because the program is there to attract new customers - not people who cancel in 3 months... I just hope it doesn’t put you on some Amex “gamer” list and affect other things. Who am I kidding, I’m already on Amex’s lists for sure 🤣

I believe it depends on whether you are using a Safeway gas station or their partner (Exxon). None of my Safeway’s have a gas station so I go to Exxon. I select the Loyalty Program, then Safeway, enter my telephone number and it takes $.20 off per gallon up to 25 gallons (I believe and dependent on your point availability.) Safeway is more off per gallon but I can’t remember the limit since I don’t have that option. I believe @Judique does though.
@KPK02090

At Safeway gas stations you get $1 off up to 25 gallons. It takes 100 points to equal 1 reward which equals 10cents off. The way I reach $1 off is only when gift cards that I want are at 10X rewards and $100 = 1000 points or 10 rewards. I don't bother with the 10 to 20 cents off because usually Costco has gas that is already close to that price point, and is right near my Safeway gas station.

You can also use the rewards for food purchases at Safeway or free food. 10 rewards will usually get me $14 worth of free items. I do some food shopping at Safeway, so can integrate this into my budget. Using a credit card that gives a good return at grocery stores increases the return.

I’m definitely not on a diet but I can get on board with this “eating plan” thing...

My eating plan:
- If you’re hungry before 11 eat a pop tart.
- no more than 5 cookies for a snack at 10pm
- if @PolyRob and I are having fun conversations after midnight I can eat half a bag of pretzels and have a 2nd diet dew...but only if I’m staying up until 2am

Man this eating plan stuff is great!!! 🤣

Eggs are great! Usually have them 3x a week. I have been known to hard-boil (use @Judique 's method) and take in my lunch. So far no cholesterol problems.

Agree with everyone that you have to find the food combos that work for you. I really need to cut out more carbs. I know I feel better and my weight is better if I have less sugar and bread. Bread is my downfall. It doesn't help that DH loves bread as well and it doesn't impact him.

Seriously people!

There’s no benefit to you closing an Amex card in less than 1 year.

If you opened a card that charges an AF, you have to pay that fee with your first statement and you won’t get it refunded if you try to cancel your card within a year.

If you somehow met the MSR quickly and your SUB posted before or around your first statement, and you think you’re being clever by paying only the charges and closing the card so you don’t have to pay the AF on that first statement, Amex will claw back your SUB if you try that.

If you opened a card with no AF or the AF waived for the first year, you’re not paying anything to keep the card for a year anyway!

When your second year AF posts (typically upon the close of your 13th statement), you have 30 days to close the card for a full refund of the AF. You can product change the card if there’s a downgrade option anytime after for a prorated refund of the AF.

But but but! — keeping an Amex card open means you need to put spend on it to appease the pop up algorithms and that’s too much work. If you believe you’re doing yourself and Amex a favor by closing a card that you don’t use in less than a year to avoid the pop up for not spending on it, then you get hit with the double whammy of having that card’s SUB clawed back and the card cancellation count against your “history” that probably triggers the same pop ups you were trying to avoid.

My doctor doesn't even offer it. They told me to go get it at CVS if I want it. I really think I may need a new doctor.

Here's a random signup bonus: Citi offers $100 statement credit after spending $100 or more in the first 3 months at Live Nation. You also get 10,000 points for spending $1k in the first 3 months. I am trying to determine if I need a Citi card for the Motley Crue/Def Lep presale. I missed out on the Chicago show tickets and now Cincinnati is added which is great because that is home. Everyone is coming to me now, yay. But I still need to secure our tickets.

This is for the Citi Rewards+ card. Just sharing because I don't think I've seen this offer anywhere. I was not planning on getting a Citi card for either DH or I but I don't think I have a choice now.

I love bread and potatoes. I was thinking of trying to make my own whole wheat bread since I really hate the over the counter stuff.

Yoyo dieter here. I have great discipline skills with everything except food. I love food. Sigh ...
