Aren’t they taking up some of those pavers? My girlfriend wants to go look at hers one last time that’s outside of MK when we go in a couple of weeks since Disney is removing it.

I don't know what they are doing. I almost bought one a couple of times because it was a neat idea, but now a lot of them are worn down. I do think a path is a nice option for GF people as the boat is a bit slow (nice for the first few rides) and they are last stop leaving MK.

Just got third denial letter for Citi AA match...think I'm going to give up. At this point it's been almost two months since I applied so I don't think it's going to happen. Oh, well! Even so, 40,000 points, a $250 gift card, and not diverting MSR from another card was worth it. All for $23 in Plastiq fees.
I tried a few times also, got the same result as you. :confused3

My mom just had a new one put in after her original one died after 15 years. I think her new one was maybe 6k-7k but she already had the propane tank and all the wiring for in the house done. They are a lifesaver for us since we're in a rural area on well water, so it runs our well pump. We got it after we lost power for 10 days after Hurricane Isabel and had to haul in 35 gallon tanks of water for the horses everyday from a house 10 minutes down the road. It was a nightmare.

I can't imagine! Definitely above my head, but it would seem like something that would not only address the issue of working conditions for warehouse workers, but also their efficiency. Maybe your DH needs to make a bid on it :rotfl:

Funny....Hurricane Isobel is what I was thinking about when reading this thread. We went just over a week without electricity. So many downed trees! After Isobel one of my trees took out me and my immediate neighbors for 5 days. Since that we've been maybe 2-3 days and I had my offending tree removed!

I can see the need to be self sufficient in a rural area such as you describe - I've lived rural in the past and if at all possible I would try to have the back up! And then I drive around Southern Maryland and note the Amish farms - no lights after dark.

I tried twice on my card and DH card....I didn’t receive the match....but DH did the second time....this was back in April....I gave up trying on mine

We have a full house generator, which I'm told would power our house for 7 days on a full tank (propane). However there are things that I learned last year that I didn't know before: i) generator must be shut off after running for 24 hours to rest and oil must be filled (similar to a car engine), ii) bribes are essential if you want your tank filled before a hurricane (I had to offer $100.00 cash to our guy to come and fill the tank -- luckily he showed up the morning Irma hit and filled the tank), iii) our generator is nearing the end of its lifespan so we will likely have to replace it in the next few years (it's a huge generator, so will cost in the area of $10k to replace and iv) the propane tank is on our front lawn buried underneath shrubs (not fun to try to read the gauge with a hurricane bearing down on you -- I had to dig through 2" of dirt to find the gauge. At least I'll know for next time (hopefully not anytime soon as we had approx. $25,000.00 damage last year with no insurance (under the hurricane deductible). We have a contract where the generator is serviced twice a year, which will hopefully prolong its life.

Just bought my first international flights with miles! I’m so stoked, I’m driving my dd nuts with crazy texts. Told her she’d be celebrating her 17th birthday in Scotland, complete with a Braveheart gif. Went with longer layovers just for peace of mind (hoping for lounges to help relieve boredom, but we’ll survive without if necessary). Thanks @calypso726 for the timely advice. So we’re spending 4-1/2 hrs. in Newark instead of 1-1/2 hr in DC. We’ll be visiting Edinburgh, London, Paris, and Venice. Will have a 4-1/2 hr layover in Zurich if that’s enough time to see anything. Would welcome any more tips or advice. Thanks everybody!
Yay! Let the city planning commence

Congratulations!!! That is wonderful! Please do share some Scotland pics when you go for those of us that love visiting there. Bonus points if it's a picture of a Highland Cow :goodvibes

My dd was a week old when Isabel came through. We never lose power but didn't have water for a week. I had almost no skin left on my hands after purelling 100 times a day while taking care of a newborn.

What do you need for a business card? Which one is the easiest to get that’s not Chase?

We’ve never had a problem getting ours filled using Southern States, but actually getting them to show up to service the generator was a nightmare. Her generator quit working right before a hurricane and I had to listen to her whine for three days about not having power, even though we have multiple other smaller generators to run the fridge and a couple lights/phone chargers. I love my mother, but I was like holy cow get a grip and learn to live like the rest of us who just have to sit in the dark and be bored lol

Too funny! My DD will also be spending her 17th birthday in Scotland in a few weeks! We are going to check out universities in Scotland and England. We arrive in Edinburgh on the morning of her birthday.

I’m looking at using my free IHG night at a Hotel Indigo in Venice. We have the IHG Premier and our card anniversary is mid August, and we’ll use the night next June. What’s the best way to book that reservation when the night isn’t posted to our account yet? We need three nights, so I was thinking book one night on cash, 2 nights on IHG points (currently in our account so ready to go). Then when the free night is credited, make the free night reservation and then cancel the cash reservation. Is that the best way to do it? That way if the rooms fill in advance, at least we still have all the nights we need there and could use the free night some other time/place.
