ok...then I'll just close it if they don't let me..... I had a very tough time getting them to honor the 10% points back and I'm not going to be using them too muchI tried 3 times and the answer was "no" for me. No pc and no retention offer. I didn't use the card much after the first few months, so that may have been the issue. One of the reps even mentioned that I had not spent much recently. I closed the card. I have read some dp's of success with a pc, so maybe you'll have better luck. The no fee card doesn't have much going for it though.
Not back yet...we get back tomorrow at 9pm. I was just perusing some things last night on the thread before bed.
OMG, these 3 months of having so much $ in Chase savings better go fast. The interest rate is ridiculous. I earned a whopping $.06.
This is why they have to pay big bucks to draw in new customers. (although I can't imagine the retention rate is very high) I thought of it as a short term ~5% interest rate - where else could I get $200 guaranteed ROI in 3 months? We had another good laugh about it when the 1099 came and it lists 200.28 in interest earned, or something like that; that's just crazy having such a low rate. Unfortunately they are not alone and several others are still .01% ( yep 1 one hundredth of a percent)
I was amazed my bank was doing a full half percent on their savings, and it's still tops around here I think. Still can't hold a candle to online rates but I made a whole $3 last year on the tiny emergency/overdraft balances I keep there. I don't even want to math out how much I'd have to have in Chase to match that![]()
Sooooo what’s everyone getting with these new Dell credits? I’m thinking about headphones, video games, or spending a bit extra and getting a TV for our bedroom.
@Lain - Dave will be at EPCOT's FARTS (<- I chuckle every time) Feb 4-10th. He'll be located between France & Morocco.

Not at all, that's really cool!Is it terrible that I've been wanting to get a drone to take aerial photography?
It’s so cute isn’t it?! I love the old fashioned poster feel it hasOh my word - I LOVE that!! CoP is one of my very favorite attractions, it makes me feel close to Walt![]()
I hope you’re having a good trip!@calypso726 - just met Merida. Couldn’t help but think of my DISchurner friend with red hair!
Do you mean you won’t be listing any? Feel free to continue to use - I’ll always pay some taxes to get free money LOL.
I’m probably not going to attempt to earn Hilton pts. via referral anymore though. I don’t have a great use for those so that is wasted tax obligation.
Still coming out ahead even if it is taxed so I’ll continue to self refer. I’m going to be disputing Amex MR valuation at 1 cent per MR and try for .6.
can you get a $100 Dell gift card the first half of the year and then use that with the Amex the second half of the year and combine the $200? Or will it have to be two separate $100 min transactions?
THIS.
My wife won a vacation sweepstakes a few years ago and it was amazing. We knew the winnings would be taxable, but were we going to decline the prize so we didn't have to pay the tax? No way! And we're glad we didn't. When we got our 1099 from the sweepstakes, it had an ARV of about $5.4k, which we thought was more than fair. We had an effective tax rate of something like 25% that year? So basically, we got a 75% discount on an amazing vacation. I call that a win. I think that would resonate with folks who like me who chase down $5 credits or 10% cash back here and there, jump at the chance to win as little as 50 Marriott points, and eek out that extra 1% savings on a purchase, because every little bit adds up.
I know what Amex did sucks. Even more so because referrals are something none of us expected we'd have to pay taxes on. I feel terrible for anyone who gets bumped up a tax bracket or loses eligibility for some credit or program because of the additional income. It particularly burns considering all the other dick moves that Amex has pulled in recent months with the pop ups, bonus denials, and fee increases. And there's good basis for the argument that MR shouldn't be valued at a full 1 cpp, Marriott and Delta aren't 1 cpp, and Hilton certainly isn't worth 0.67 cpp. If you don't want the added tax liability, you can always pull your links and decline the prize. But even if you're taxed 25%, 30%, 40% on MR and Marriott, but maybe not Delta or Hilton, you're probably still coming out ahead, especially if you dispute Amex's valuation or take a deduction successfully.
I hope this hasn't soured too many people from posting their support links, and definitely please keep using them.
Yep! I’m just going to make sure I only post links from programs that are worth it (ie MRs and my Blue Cash)THIS.
