I lost 40 points. What does this mean?

Or others are intolerant of you.

That's correct. The thread that he may be talking about was started by a mod and is completely against the rules set up by the mods. Had the link been reversed politically the poster probably would have been banned.

What does it mean?

Pretty much absolutely nothing. It's a little like being a third grader and having your card moved from the green light to the yellow light.

It is kind of weird to see a Political discussion over there. Does that board have a different set of guidelines?

Apparently. At least when a Mod posts banned material. :sad2:

Well...why is that being allowed if there is to be no political discussions on this board...seems hypocritical.

I have gay friends, I dont want to see them bashed, but I am a republican also and I dont want to be bashed or have all of us painted with the same broad brush that someone could bash us.

the post does not bash all republicans... and does not paint all republicans with the same brush.

The poster here who said it "bashed republicans" was exaggerating...

Well, the bottom line is that nobody is being forced to post here. If you find the environment stifling to your opinions, wander out onto the vast universe that is the internet and find a place where you feel more comfortable. Lord knows there's enough out there that just about anyone should be able to find a home.

But it is a political thread, which is not allowed on the Dis, I thought.

that is a different issue... and one in which I have no say..

I just wanted to let Mkrop know it was not a "republican bashing" thread... the OP just posted a link and one candidate spoke for herself basically...

Not just the OP's post is political in that thread. Several others are as well, and they do refer to other Republicans and all Republicans. But you should know that, you posted there, too.
;)

Well, for the record, there are plenty of Christians, conservatives 'n Republicans who support equality for gays 'n lesbians so I'm not sure what the issue is.

I went and found the supposed Republican bashing thread and anyone who thinks a similar thread discussing negatively a politician from the donkey party would stay open is disillusion. And for those that claim it is about one candidate, you must have missed:

These Republican candidates...
and

This is the problem with the Republican party...

I despise both parties equally and hate the person discussed in that thread so this isn't about my own ideology.

It is their sandbox and they can set whatever lopsided and unevenly enforced rules they want but at least own up to the hypocrisy. This is especially true when a mod starts a thread that is about a banned topic.

Exactly. A Republican New York Senate passed the marriage equality act and the most liberal state in the country, California, passed prop 8. People are individuals and come up with their own individual stances on issues. If you (general you) allow party politics to change your view on an issue you are not a person, you are a sheep.

It really means that these boards are considerably more liberal than the world in gene views are often ridiculed, even when presented in a logical, neutral "voice".

AGREE...Its ok for someone to be looked down on for being republican here but you can not in any way shape or form disagree with the gay lifestyle or be prolife ect ect ect ....I am as conservative as they come but I dont have anything to say against someone living the life they choose but I agree that this board is very "liberal" and things are not really played fair, the mods do tend to come down on the liberal side of a argument. If this country is so "free" why is it we ALL have to agree in the same views? if you choose the liberal lifestyle or conservative that should be YOUR OWN choice and not be atttacked for your choice either way.

I just remembered an example. When Ted Kennedy died people mentioned Chappaquiddick and how people should remember Mary Jo Kopechne. There was absolutely no mention of his politics, his political party, his historical voting record on issues, or anything else. Just his killing of a person was mentioned with no reference what so ever to politics. That thread, however, was considered political even though it wasn't just because it happened to be about a Democratic political figure.

The current thread is much more political than the Kennedy one was but one was closed as political and one was not.

This is an example of perception, in my opinion. You find this board to be considerably more liberal than your "world", while I find the board to be considerably more socially conservative than the "world" in which I live. I work in a very fiscally conservative field (investment banking), and so I'm exposed to conservative fiscal opinions on a daily basis, but I've never been exposed to many of the more conservative values that many on this board hold. You experience ridicule of your views, while I've seen the values that I hold dear also ridiculed. Both perceptions are likely true and valid, but it really points out that we should all try to see the other side's perspective, even if we find it to be anathema to our personal values.

Personally I find the conversations to be fascinating, and wish they were not banned (although I understand why they are), but I am also comfortable in who I am and confident in the values that I hold so it doesn't bother me the way it seems to bother many people.

Interesting. I'd like to see the thread.
