I like Jello

I guess I shouldn't complain about cauliflower or radishes. It could be worse:

Is that (gulp) tongue??:scared:

In my opinion, it is just too much work to make a jello mold b/c (1) it will look like a pile of goo once the first person gets a hunk of it, and (2) lots of people won't even eat jello - I know if I am at a party and they have jello and other desserts like pudding, pie and/or cake, the other desserts win out every time.
Oh, and is it called aspic if it has vegetables it in? MIL has a "Secrets of Better Cooking" cookbook from the late 1960's that has several aspic recipes (tomato, cucumber-maybe?, can't recall the others). And consommes.

I thought it was aspic if it was made with a bone based broth?

I like the looks of this molded jello creation, but it seems like it would be an awful lot of trouble.

OMG that is awesome, and why ladies and gentlemen I prefer Jello over pudding. That is just the freakin coolest lookiing thing. Its like a little rainbow on your plate. My kids would absotively flip for this! Any ideas how its done?

Yum! Olive and tongue jello loaf. I might have to add that to the "What's for dinner" thread.

Way back when my now 31 year old was in a co-op nursery school and each mother or father had to work one day a month and bring snack. they would have a color day for each color and the snack would be the color of the day and the kids would wear something the color of the day. My son's birthday always fell on Rainbow day.
I used to make that rainbow jello for his class in little clear plastic cups, one for each kid.
It is easy to make but does take time. You have to make each color of the jello seperately and make it using the ice cube methid so it sets quicker. Put in a layer of the jello and let it set, then about 1/2 hour later do the next layer. As you get higher in the color you have to use more jello if you want even layers because the cups are wider at the top. for the light purple (indigo) layer I used purple jellowith only 1 cup hot water and 1 cup cool whip.
By the way, I was a stay at home housewife then and he was my only child.
When my 2nd son went to the same nursary school I bought rainbow skittles.

We had Jello as a kids years ago...and I love it. My kids won't touch the stuff.

I believe the bones are boiled to get the colligen(?) out, not pulverized.

PS: Thanks for the Rainbow Connection.:rotfl:

I love plain Jello...no veggie or meat Jello.
I'm just sticking with FRUIT flavored Jello... :goodvibes

I mean... you MEAN MOM... you know that poor poor kid will need therapy, how dare you mistreat him??!!

(and wouldnt adding knox blox help set the jello? or be less tricky?)

WHERE'S THE RECIPE for the jello shots that taste like creamscicles???

My mom always made the fruit cocktail jello mold when we were kids. I have never attempted one and I dont think my kids know what one looks like. I think I'll give one a whirl if I can locate a mold.

In the forum you linked, they mentioned doing them in wine glasses. I may have lost my frickin' mind, but I think I'll do this. DS will think it's cool, and DH already suspects my mind is long gone. For some bizarre reason, a sale in the fall?, I have a few different "colors" of jello in the pantry. Wine glasses seem much more manageable than a mold. Or maybe rocks glasses, hmmmm.

That was the picture I was linking! I liked them too and found this that I think I am going to try making for the kids.

My grandmother used to make a lime Jell-O mold with shaved carrots inside. Skeeved me out every time! :scared:

My kids eat Jell-O by sucking it up through straws. We're very proud.

My Grandmother used to make a lime jello mold with celery. I'm getting ill just thinking about it.

The strangest recipe I've seen with jello is one with pretzels and cream cheese. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
