I know this is cheating...

And Dean, the only thing that is clear is that Disney is not obligated to give anyone but the member member perks.

I do wonder if you loaned your guests your DVC member card if they would get the benefits. You may not be required to have matching names (and I don't think many people would check it anyway). Disney has no way of telling which people are your guests and which have paid you for your points, and since they are quite clear that the renters aren't entitled to discounts, the guests need to be able to prove "guestness" somehow.
As I said, they could change the rules at any time as these are not guaranteed benefits. All I was saying is that it's clear in the "Members benefits guidebook" that the discount is clearly for member and/or guest. And guests are essentially defined in the POS as someone using your points (with or without the member) and not paying to do so. Have you looked at the document, do you have a copy. Remember this is not the colorful "Member Guidebook" you have received, this is a paper they used to put in the back of the spiral and is now available on the website. Here is the quote:

That looks to me like guests (including renters) as long as the have "DVC member" on their room key, get admission discounts to PI, DQ and the Waterparks. But not that they are entitled to dining discounts. And that the current discount on those admission benefits can be adjusted at anytime. Which goes back to guests may get some benefits.

Guests are people who come with the member or without the member, but the points and reservation are a gift. If you pay for the reservation, you are a customer, not a guest. Non-members who pay a member for the use of their points and a reservation are not entitled to discounts and perks. I wish Disney would just leave DVC member off the KTTW.

No argument, the question is which "some" are they entitled to. Only a year or so ago all of the benefits except those specifically listed for members, were available to guests just by having Member on their room key. And even now there's no proclamation they are not other than they may need the blue card. There are some perks that the member must be there and in the unit to get and they are spelled out. And there are other benefits that say you must be staying on points, and they too are spelled out.

It'd make me look younger, like some of the teenagers now days. But what was it my mom said, oh I remember, always wear clean underwear in case you're in an accident.

Disney has no way of knowing whether the OP has rented points from the member...and they do not care. Therefore, their room card will likely say "member". If Disney was so worried about this, they could just stop adding "MEMBER" on the room keys. Then, the membership card would be the only way of getting a discount.

The main purpose of most DVC perks is to get the member/guest to visit a restaurant/shop and spend money. When you use a member disount it usually means that your purchase price has been reduced from "really over-priced" to just "over-priced". So, even if a non-member gets to use a member discount, the merchant benefits the most from the transaction.

All very interesting. I have just one question. Why, when we had guests staying with us last year, did the discount not apply to their meals as well? We would give the blue card AND the room keys, but the discount was never applied to their bills, even though they were staying in the same room with us, and their keys also said "member"? We did try to argue the point once, but were told that they were not members, so thus could not get the discount, even though they were out guests dining and staying with us.

They should know as the member is required to tell DVC if it's a rental and agree with the rest of your statement.

Probably because the practice has been one discount per table. Had you put all the meals on one bill, they would have received the discount. Did you ask about them getting the discount or did you just rely on the actions of the server to determine what happened. I suspect if you'd asked you would have had a good chance of getting the discount for your guests even with a separate bill.

When we rent points out we make the ressie and tell MS we are renting the reservation they make a note of it on the reservation thus the renter doesn't get DVC member on the room key or so they say anyhow. as for carrying the blue member card we always do just for that reason.
