i know this is blasphemy but, is Universal Studios worth going to?

Threads have a tendency to get ugly when people attack something that we obviously care about, Sam. When you noted that there were no characters and that there was drinking in the streets... ... I'm sorry, but this can put a USF fan (and there are some true loyalists on this board) on the defensive. Imagine if I said something like that on the Theme Parks or the Disney Resorts board? I'd be thrown to the wolves!

I'm so glad you're willing to give it another try. This was DEFINITELY a bad time of the day. What you experienced what not typical at all. I went to Animal Kingdom and had a very bad experience also, but instead of totally dismissing it I've convinced myself to give it another go. It's only fair... :teeth:

If my opinion was an attack in your estimation, I apologize.

I misunderstood the purpose of this board. I thought I could voice my opinion even if it differed from others.

We go both to Disney and Universal every trip (and every trip we spend more time at Universal.) Disney is my fav but my husband and kids like Universal and IOA best. All are great. We went last Dec (1st week) and we saw lots of characters in U & IOA. As far as nostalgia Disney gives my husband and me the warm fuzzies, but my kids grew up with Nick and so get more of that feeling from Universal % IOA. (The Dr Suess land was the biggest hit with my teen DD.) I think if the kids are thrill riders and older give it a try. (A little test, if your kids fav rides at Disney are RR Coaster and TT, they will probably like Universal and IOA.)

Certainly well worth it to go to Universal. Different magic altogether. My 10 y.o. prefers AP's there than Disney (thank goodness!).

alice-d, so true of RR Coaster & TT. That'll help a lot of people trying to decide if to try Universal (IOA in particular).

Keeping my Disney opinions to myself. Guess I could post 'em on the other boards... nah, who cares what I think.

No, Sam you did not misunderstand. You voiced your opinion and it caused others to vehemently voice theirs. That's their right, also.

Every action gets a REaction. Your post was not just an opinion but a depiction I've never experienced and I didn't think it was fair for others who have never been there to assume that's what it is.

I think many of you have the misconception that a Disney fan is not an open minded person?

We just go by what we see here on the boards.

i'm a big chicken and CAN"T HANDLE 'thrill' rides.

Like i love Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain but good luck draggin me onto Space Mountain.

And I do so love the 'story' and 'magic' of WDW.

So i guess i'm just trying to figure out if it's better to head over to Universal for a day or spend another day at Disney.

I've been to universal in california and i LOVE the ET ride, enjoyed Backdraft, enjoyed Jurassic Park river ride (but TOO SHORT -- is it longer in the orlando version?)

I've got a feeling i would enjoy Universal -- it's just so darn hard for me to leave WDW knowing i won't be back for a year or two! I get pretty sad getting on that monorail for the last time. boo hoo

:-)

I know how you feel. Can you make your trip longer? I really, really enjoyed Universal in California and really want to see the Florida parks, but I just hate to cut my Disney World time short because we only get to Florida every two years or so. This next trip we are going for 13 days-our usual 9 at DW and then 3 nights at Universal. We're cutting back on other small trips we would take so we can make this happen next year. I'm really looking forward to the Universal part our our trip. I hope they still do the Grinchmas thing next year.

I don't like TT at Disney. Too much of a thrill ride for me. But I love USF and IOA including Hulk and DD. I don't go on Dr. Doom's Fearfall though.

It sounds like you would enjoy Universal Studios more than IOA. But the themeing in IOA is incredible.

You will have a great time!

Disney is fantasy forever.

Your right Disney has long long lines.

Don't get me wrong I too will always love Disney, but let's face it going a ride like Snow White does not compare to a ride like Cat In the Hat. The colors and animation don't even compare. I have kids 9,7 & 5, and they love all the parks but each park has it's own perks.
