I Knew You Would Eventually Get Tired of Disney World - April '12 TR - Completed 2/9

nilla,
I'm lovin' this TR. The title sucked me in... now I'm catching up on your past TR's.

Posting this week will be tough, but hopefully I'll get an update out this week. After that, I should be able to get updates out more frequently. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading!

Looking forward to more! (and I felt the need to bump your trip report back the page 1!)

I hope you and your family had a wonderful 4th of July! Looking forward to an update soon.

It's true but don't tell my dh. I've been catching up on your TR for the last 2 days and haven't done much around the house. With the exception of feed the children. I don't mind they want to eat every day but I'm not sure who told them I was supposed to cook everyday. Anyways I'll just go read your past TRs while I wait for you to update this one.

What's going on Jon? Another vacation? Just stopping by to say :wave2:

Hope you guys had fun in Tennessee!! The pictures were great -- looks like a blast was had by all. Looking forward to the next installment of this trip report :)

We've never done Tom Sawyer Island, and I can't say I'm in a huge hurry to get out there. Did the kids enjoy it?

They did. It's fun, but the boat ride on a hot day is awful!

Great updates, Jon. I don't think I'm going to like this new FP rule at all. Tell Kristin I'll be stopping at Guest Relations to give my opinion as well!.

Do it! We'd even accept an additional hour to the window.

Looks like you did have a better day...so far! Luckily for me the FP thing started like two weeks after I left! Probably one of the worst ideas Disney ever had!

I like it much better when they don't enforce the rules, too :)

Hidden Mickey! ;)

TRPIC2.jpg

Ok, that's hilarious!

Still here. So was Dumbo not open or was the line too long? Just wondering why you didn't ride.

It was probably about 20 minutes, which was 15 minutes longer than we felt like waiting.

What concert was that pic from?

Iron Maiden. They're the first band I ever saw live (1987) and the first band Dylan ever saw live (2010) :)

I love reading your TRs! Can't wait to continue... so... let's go!! :rotfl:

Ok, ok!

You mean I could have comp'd a pas if I had complained about how long I waited for a train one afternoon in the really HOT sun. :faint: Drat! Who knew?

The complainers! I'm not one to do this, so I'm glad I have Kristin to do the dirty work. We just got some deals from DirecTV as a result of her complaining about losing Nickelodeon :)

Bummer. We had a similar transportation problem with the train going to Rafiki's at AK the first year we visited. We didn't go back for a couple years because of it. It just didn't seem worth the hassle. I don't know if they've solved the problem or if we're smarter about choosing which day to visit but it's much better now.

I think we ended up waiting for that once, too. It's the downside of going to a place no one else ever goes!

Great update with fantastic pictures! Thankfully it looks like Day 7 is going much better than Day 6 did!

Yes, looking good so far, but we still have dinner

nilla,
I'm lovin' this TR. The title sucked me in... now I'm catching up on your past TR's.

Glad to hear it! I'm not 100% thrilled with the title, but my other ideas were much worse :)

Looking forward to more! (and I felt the need to bump your trip report back the page 1!)

Thanks! I've been on vacation and/or lazy, so I appreciate all the help I can get!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful 4th of July! Looking forward to an update soon.

Tonight!

I could never get tired of Disney

Me, neither. Now to convince Kristin...

It's true but don't tell my dh. I've been catching up on your TR for the last 2 days and haven't done much around the house. With the exception of feed the children. I don't mind they want to eat every day but I'm not sure who told them I was supposed to cook everyday.

I like your priorities.

What's going on Jon? Another vacation? Just stopping by to say :wave2:

Yep, Crossville Tennessee. The puppy's hometown, and Kristin's cousin's home. No more vacations for me for a while!

Hope you guys had fun in Tennessee!! The pictures were great -- looks like a blast was had by all. Looking forward to the next installment of this trip report :)

Coming right now!

Just got back from a week-long trip to Crossville, Tennessee, followed up by a day trip to Kristin's parents' place in the Poconos. I almost need a vacation from vacations! Almost :)

Some quick hits before we get back to our story:

I talked to my brother yesterday, who lives in California. We've yet to visit there are as a family, and he reminds me that they have a Disney world out there. Hmmm, good point. Certainly a consideration!

On the way back from Tennessee, we stopped at Luray Caverns in Virginia. Here are a few pics:

I'm being honest when I say that it was a serious mental adjustment for me to

  • Realize this was real, and not a product of Imagineering.
  • Accept that all of this is not going to end in a dark ride.

Pretty crazy! My mind has been Disneyfied. Or Disneyfried. Not sure which is more applicable!

Ok, on to the updates!

It's almost time to go eat, so it's back down Mainstreet and to the Monorail. But wait - the Monorail sign says it's closed from 11:30 to 6:00 today. Huh?

Ok, over to the resort boat. But wait - the monorail's open! What?

Alright, over to the Poly, where we are greeted with this:

IMG_1911.jpg

For dinner here:

IMG_1915.jpg

I already used my "Ohana" sign pic for the update opener, so there are our drinks. Ginger Lemonade for Kristin, Kona Longboard for me. Our waiter is very friendly, and tells us Kona is cheaper in Florida than it is in Hawaii, but probably not here at Disney. Good beers - both the Longboard Lager and the Fire Rock Pale Ale. Wish they have the Koko Brown http://konabrewingco.com/beers/koko-brown/, though.

We can see the Magic Kingdom great from our seat, but someone can't take good pictures.

IMG_1917.jpg

Hey, here's the bread! You know, the ceremonial warm-up for the "will Dylan eat tonight" act. We limit the bread since we know he'll fill up on it. Sauces come out next.

IMG_1919.jpg

Then the apps.

IMG_1922.jpg

We talk Dylan into trying a pot sticker, and he loves it.

IMG_1924.jpg

Em goes for a wing.

IMG_1923.jpg

I decide, for some reason, to get a close-up of a half-eaten wing.

IMG_1925.jpg

Fantastic appetizers. One of the reasons we're here is so we don't order these things and ruin our meal at Kona later in the week. Apps are kind of messy, but Emily's got the hook up.

IMG_1920.jpg

Noodles and broc are next.

IMG_1926.jpg

Both amazing. Not sure why I don't like eating here more.

IMG_1927.jpg

Ahh, that's why. The meat. It's good, but I'm also so full by the time it comes out, and it pales in comparison to the appetizers. But it is good...so maybe I'm just being silly.

Speaking of silly, the nonsense begins.

IMG_1934.jpg

IMG_1929.jpg

Not only is this whole deal fun for the kids, but it's educational as well. We are all now fluent in Hawaiian, and you can be, too, with this brand new, two-step course!

Lesson 1: Aloha means "hello" AND "goodbye". It's pretty convenient for greeting someone you don't really feel like talking to.

Lesson 2: Every other word in the vocabulary translates to "you are awesome". At least that's what the woman with the ukele is telling us, and I see no reason to question her.

More walking around the restaurant now.

IMG_1936.jpg

Followed by more standing and dancing.

IMG_1942.jpg

And more dancing.

IMG_1942.jpg

Emily wasn't digging this dance for some reason, so back to the table we go. The kids are up to something.

IMG_1943.jpg

Dylan actually ate alright tonight. Mostly pot stickers, but it's some progress. Emily, meanwhile, becomes a magnet for leis.

IMG_1946.jpg

The banana thing comes out, and Kristin and I are so stuffed, we can barely look at it. But we still eat it. Excellent!

Overall, dinner was a success. I'd definitely come back here again soon, and we get to return to the Poly for another meal later in the week! In the meantime, it's back to the Magic Kingdom, again by Monorail.

IMG_1950.jpg

Some shots along the way.

IMG_1951.jpg

IMG_1952.jpg

It looks like I'm not the only one excited to be back here!

IMG_1954.jpg

But instead of going back into the park, it's back to CSR. We swam again, took a picture of the volleyball court for some unknown reason...

IMG_1956.jpg

...and headed back to the room for bed. In all, it was a great day back at the Magic Kingdom! No frustrating games not working, no arguments about food, and we got to the ride the Haunted Mansion! We have one more day at this park, but tomorrow, it's back to Hollywood Studios.

Good night!

Holy moly. Those caves are breathtaking. In a good way, not the Seinfeld way.

And now I want some of those noodles, which of course is an impossibility.

Glad you guys had a nice trip--looking forward to more updates!

I'm so glad that you guys enjoyed your dinner at 'Ohana! We ended up uncomfortably full, but can't wait to go back.

Yay! Dylan ate dinner!

My husband is also a fan of the Kona beers :thumbsup2. My BIL owns a beer distributor , so he hooks him up with some cases. Yum! Love Ohana and all it's nonsense :goodvibes

Great update, Jon. We REALLY need to get to Ohana one of these days as we have never been. Em looks adorable with all her leis; and I love the picture of her dancing with her daddy. And :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for Dylan eating a meal.

Great picture of CSR volleyball court and the background at night. :thumbsup2

I am supremely late to this very entertaining party but do have to thank you for a very enjoyable read tonight when I needed a serious fix. Why is it the 2 weeks before a trip are the hardest to wait through? Thanks for a fix!

Really enjoying the TR so far!

Though I am starting to worry about the state of your shorts inventory, what Dylan won't eat next and if anyone is tempted to go down the rabbit hole of Sorcerers again.

GREAT cave pic.

Glad to hear you had a great time in Tennessee.

I have to agree with you that the apps are the best part of the Ohana meal. If they could just bring me the chicken wings, noodles, broccoli, and shrimp I would be one happy camper. :thumbsup2

Glad you found something that Dylan liked and Em looks adorable. :goodvibes

LOL! Also not in the Dr. Evil shaving way :)

I'm so glad that you guys enjoyed your dinner at 'Ohana! We ended up uncomfortably full, but can't wait to go back.

The trick for me was to focus on the really good stuff and not feel obligated to eat the rest!

My husband is also a fan of the Kona beers :thumbsup2. My BIL owns a beer distributor , so he hooks him up with some cases. Yum! Love Ohana and all it's nonsense :goodvibes

Not sure if we can get Kona around where I live, but it certainly seems appropriate at the Poly!

Great picture of CSR volleyball court and the background at night. :thumbsup2

It's the only CSR pic I got that day. Not sure why I picked that one!

Though I am starting to worry about the state of your shorts inventory, what Dylan won't eat next and if anyone is tempted to go down the rabbit hole of Sorcerers again.

I haven't talked much about the shorts in recent updates, but we're certainly getting close to them becoming a problem!

Not sure what the Hawaiian word for appetizer is, but I'm pretty sure it also translates to "awesome" ;)

More updates tomorrow night, definitely. Beer and Big Brother take precedence tonight!
