I just WON a ham bone worth $12.09

At any rate, make a wicked pot of soup!
:teeth: Enjoy!

Will do... using this recipe ( this is my recipe )

3 cans great northern beans, drained

6 cans chicken broth.... I usually use low salt. ( or use two LARGE cans )

1 pound can sliced potatoes, drained

1 can diced carrots, drained

2 cans of diced tomatoes

The ham from the bone... usually have at least 1 pound. BTW, the bone is in the pot while cooking the soup.

1 chopped onion

1/4 cup dried parsley flakes

1 bay leaf

1 TBS of Italian Seasoning

salt and pepper

Directions

In a large pot, combine all ingredients.

Bring to boiling.

Reduce heat.

Simmer, covered for 60 minutes.

Remove bay leaf and bone.

Enjoy.

please dont give ham bones to dogs unless you like your dog pooping 100000's of times a day.. ham + dogs = disaster!

My dog gets the BONE, not the ham. I buy them from a BBQ restaurant and they have no meat left on them. Doesn't seem to bother him a bit. I have never seen him eat one but he carries it around and chews on it. I don't know if he finally eats it or buries it(we have a big backyard)

Truthfully, I would not trust any food item that needed to be refrigerated if it was in someone else's hands before me. It was frozen when you got it, but it could have been sitting out for hours before it was frozen or thawed after they bought it and then refrozen.
I doubt that the store would sell a bone from a ham that someone had eaten. How would they even do that other than ask people to bring back their bones when they are done?! I doubt that the store would be reselling something that came from somebody's home. They probably cut the meat off the bone for some other purpose then sold the bone. Many people buy bones for cooking.

No, I am saying the people who bought it for the auction could have let it sit out or not taken proper precautions, not the ham store. Obviously the OP is cooking the bone, so it's really a non-issue now for him. People have different comfort levels, you know? I still think it is a weird auction item though.

...ITA - I can't give my dog pork either because of that reason.....

I'll post a real response;)...I do think it's weird that Honeybaked Ham actually sells hambones, and it's even weirder that whoever put the raffle together thought that it was the perfect item. How do you know the person who wins it would even have any idea what to do with it? Or isn't Jewish? Or vegitarian? Very weird.

...while I certainly agree that it's not the FIRST thing that'd pop into my mind when I think of a prize for a raffle, perhaps this item was a DONATION from the company, rather than the raffle organizer thinking: "...Gee, let's raffle off a HAMBONE...!!"

Papa Duece: BTW ~ what time's dinner?? :hyper:

This soup was awesome.... and it is already all gone. :)

It had an actual Honeybaked Ham bar code on the bag it came in, so I imagine they bought it there, or it was donated from there. When I got it, it was frozen.

it is probably fine....they sent the ham bone with my uncle's plate and the hams are pretty darn expensive!
