and I've never run a step in my life! :sad2: I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. :cheer2: :scared: Will I really be ready to do this by January??

Setz...you'll be fabulous!

Come join us over on the training thread!

Weekly Half-Full Marathon Training Info

There's quite a few of us that have never run before as well as expert runners and triathletes that will help and advise. You'll be in good company!

Absolutely! You will be ready! It will certainly make it easier on you if you seriously train starting now. You will then be ready in the gradual mode and more likely will be injury free. Those that put it off have greater risk of over training and acquiring injuries.

By seriously, I don't mean extremely, just get on it.

Welcome aboard. You will find the link above to get you to a great group of people all working for a similar goal. Come often post lots!

SetzKitten,

I've never run before either, and at my current weight I'm sure a lot of people will think I'm crazy for even considering this. But, I really want this and training for the 1/2 marathon fits in nicely with my long-term goal of getting healthier and stronger.

Welcome!

Reading these threads are such an inspiration to get out an get moving.
I do not run but am willing to try and figure out how without becoming so breathless I have to stop and gasp for air.

I asked dd (xterratri) if she thought I wold be crazy for even thinking about signing up for the half :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

She said I had 10 months to train and it is possible. Have to see how knees hold up on treadmill workouts. :) :) :) Will have to make a decision soon. :confused3

Hi. I attempted the 1/2 for the 1st time this year with 2 friends. Considering how bad we were we were happy going as far as we did. this year in order to keep more focused the 2 of us that are doing it again in 2006 are signing up for 5Ks. when I stopped at the running shop this weekend i was informed that they were having one March 26st so I'll be doing that one and have 1 a month for april, May and June. We haven't found ones yet for the future months (a possible one in november 10k i think).

find things that will keep you going. if i can get up the courage my hubby says i should do the woman's run that my running shop offers up weekly. check and see if your local running shop has something like that, from what i hear they should have people at all levels.

I would highly recommend seeing a professioal running shop and having them fit you with the best shoes for you. My biggest surprise was they fitted me in a size 9 when I'm a size 7-1/2. I have support for my arches, seems I roll inward :-D And found Wright socks which are for blisters. I stupidily bought my shoes the Thursday before christmas and wore these shoes for the 1/2 marathon... I couldn't have been happier. Well if i had finished *g* my legs, my joints and my feet were soooo happy. I didn't have a pain until my shins decided on Tuesday to rebel a bit but that was from the bridges (there are bridges on this thing! another thing i overlooked! *lol*).

Bodyglide!!! Even when i was a teenie popper I would get a redness on my legs, the bodyglide (looks like deo! LOL) worked great and I didn't have any troubles, I highly recommend it and bought my friend some so she won't borrow mine.

Back to my friend and her shoes, she bought her shoes in her usual shoe size, wore decent socks and had blisters on top of blisters. So please check out the running stores.

And in other news for Full runners (and really us 1/2 too), Running Times magazine (march2005 issue) has an article "Marathoning the Hanson's Way" pretty interesting.

Best of Luck to you and even more importantly have fun and enjoy the day it is such a magical day, I start to get all excited all over again as I recall arriving at the staging area, and walking thru all those people, and then as they count down to the start. It's an unbeliveable day.

You CAN do this. It is either a fast paced walk or a slow Wog (walk/jog) You will LOVE yourself for the experience.

SetzKitten, hope you are finding your way.

Come on, jump in newbies. You will be glad you did.
