I know in the grand scheme of things this is really not significant and that I should be grateful I have the opportunity to even be going to WDW 3 times this year when there are families who cannot even go once. That said, I have a reservation for this August as follows:

16th in Standard Studio
17-22 1 bedroom Studio

Ok so I realize today that I am well within the 7 month window, so I call to see if I can get Beach Club 1 bed for 17-22. Now keep in mind that I am new and clueless.

THe CM I got is same guy I have had a previous time. I don't know if they are supposed to check your available points prior to making any changes, but he did not and he had availability for 1 bedroom for first 3 nights at BCV, so I said go for it and I could waitlist for the last 2 nights. Well he cancels my 17,18 & 19 and then comes back online to tell me I have no more points left and cannot do this. In the meantime my ressie goes to someone who is on the waitlist. :sad2: :sad1:
Because I made reservation for NYE week I used remaining Sept08 points. I did not realize that I could borrow Sept09 points for NYE trip but not for Aug trip as that one is still in 07 UY.
Now I have nothing. I have to wait for him to call me back because they are having problem with computers. The only thing I have confirmed is my 1 night in studio and the last 2 nights in 1 bed. He is going to try to move me to OKW in a 1 bed near HH.

****UPDATED 2/24******

That stinks! I haven't had that happen to me yet, but I can totally sympathize.

Why couldn't he switch it so that your NYE reservation used the 2009 points and you could borrow your 2008 points for August?

That is a very good question, but honestly like I said I am new to this and didn't think to ask. In my mind I was afraid he would cancel my NY ressies that I waited on hold for every day for past week and I would lose those as well.

What I now know is that I should have called on my first day of 7 month window to make the changes and that would have been well before I made my NY ressie. I could have then used April 09 UY points to complete the NY ressie since I cannot them for Aug 08 stay.

I should add that I did get a call back and I was switched to 1 bed at OKW for those 5 nights and waitlisted for BWV. I feel so dumb.:sad2:

As I am just learning as well.....when he cancelled the 17, 18 and 19th, didn't that free up the points you were using for those nights and wouldn't that go towards the new reservation?

Which reservation went to the person on the waitlist? If it ws the BCV one he shouldn't have had availability to tell you about in the first place. Sounds like they still need some upgrades to the computer system. It does sound like they could re-alocate the points and use the 09 for the NYE and the 08 for the Aug one. Even if you get the 1 BR at OKW you could go on the waitlist for the other resorts and it is still far enough out that you may stand a good chance to get them. Good luck and hope your trip is great no matter where you stay - OKW is my favorite resort but I can understand being bummed out if you had your heart set on another one and then lost it because of the misunderstanding of borrowing and the CM not checking your available points first.

Obviously several of us posted at the same time. Glad you have a reservation but don't understand why you can't borrow April 09 to make a reservation in August 08. I understand that you can bank one year into the next and then borrow so you should be able to bank the April 08 to 09 and borrow from2010 to book 2009 reservations at this point and likewise you should be able to borrow 09 to make reservations in the 2008 year. This is all based on the 11/7 month terms of course. I guess I am confused because you have mentioned two different Use Years and one of them could have been borrowed.

If you were doing a straight swap from 1br BWV to 1br BCV it should have been the same amount of points or less than the BWV as the lowest point 1br view at BWV is equal to a 1br at BCV, so I am not sure how you could not have enough points :confused3

To change useage of points would mean cancelling and rebooking and then you would lose the reservation to someone on the waitlist.

This came from another thread about switching reservations when you book at 11 months at a home resort and then trying to get a 7 month out reservation at a different resort.

Quote from Granny:
Keep in mind that there is a slim, but real, risk in this practice. When you "switch" reservations what really happens is:

1. MS finds that there is availability at Resort B that you want to switch to.
2. MS cancels your original home resort reservation at Resort A to free up the points for the new reservation.
3. MS books the new reservation at Resort B.
So it really isn't a switch...it's a cancellation and booking that happens pretty quickly.

BUT...between #2 and #3 the available villa at Resort B could be booked and then you have no reservation at all. Your original reservation has already been cancelled and your desired reservation is no longer available.

It is rare, but has been reported on these boards more than once. So I always hold my breath when this happens and have had no problems yet.

The only way to avoid this is if you have enough points to hold the original reservation and still have enough points to make the new one. Then, for a short period, you would actually be holding two reservations. I'd say this is fairly rare since most people don't have enough points to do this for their vacations unless they tend to book multiple DVC trips per year.

The OP had a reservation in a STUDIO (standard) at BWV. She changed to a ONE BEDROOM at BCV. The standard studio at BWV would be a whole lot fewer points than the one bedroom at BCV.

Her original post is a bit confusing because she states:
16th in Standard Studio
17-22 1 bedroom Studio

Not sure what a one bedroom studio is, but I think she meant one bedroom standard. Again, still fewer points than the one bedroom at BCV which would have been as many points as a preferred one bedroom at BWV.

Ah yes got confused flicking through the planner! The OP must have had a standard view, if it had been a Boardwalk or preferred view it wouldn't have been a problem.

I checked the point charts and BW 1 bed standard is 22 pts a night and it is 28 pts at BCV, so that is how I did not have enough points in my 08 UY. See I have 35 pts April and 100 Sept. I used the 35 for next week reservation and used 100 07 Sept and 100 08 Sept for combination August and December reservations, so I had no 08 points left.

Now that I re-read my post it is confusing LOl. Here is what I HAD:

8/16 studio standard BWV
8/17-8/22 1 bed standard BWV

I tried to switch to 1bed at BCV. More points per night since BCV does not have standard view. I was already cleaned out of 08 UY points since I used some on my NYE ressie this past week. Now had I borrowed 09 points for my NYE ressie, I would have had additional 08 UY points left to play with. I did not think of this and the CM did not look to see if I would have enought points.

SHouldn't he have checked that first?? I am new to DVC and obviously I now realize what went wrong, but do they usually check to see if you have the points before cancelling your current ressie?:confused3

I can totally see this happening to people. Once he cancelled my BWV, it was long gone. There should be a way that they can temporarily "hold" the ressie until they get the other one in place.

Ultimately, before he told me he had to call me back, he did just that. He said that he had my 5 nights at OKW on hold so that no one else could get it and that he would call me back once he was able to get the computer to work.

I think that was your responsibility not theirs. You can check on the member website to see how many points you have available to book and how you have already used them.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

What we usually do is figure out how many points a stay will need and how many we have available before we make the call.

That would be nice, but it would mean double booking with your points and that wouldn't be fair to others.

Everything happens for a reason, and actually I think you will really love OKW! I read the boards everyday, and always learn something new. I too am learning all the " tricks of the trade" so to speak, don't get too down. These are the things the sales people never talk about. This particular timeshare is very complicated, with ins and outs that other members have figured out. Look forward to OKW! Give us a trip report!:goodvibes

When I called to make that intial reservation for August, she put me on hold to check and see if I had enough points to book it. I guess that is what made me think that they check before releasing a reservation.

Let me ask you this though. I told him that I have 35 April 09 UY points available and could I use those and he said no. The more I think about it, I think he was wrong. April UY 2008 is from April 1, 2008 - March 31. 2009. So couldn't I indeed borrow 2009 points into my 2008 UY and wouldn't my August 2008 ressie be part of that 08 UY. Or am I just confused?:confused3

Thank you for the good wishes!:goodvibes I guess I was so excited about wanting to check out BCV, that I didn't think it through. Also I bought from TSS and honestly they didn't explain anything to me. Whatever I know I read on here. :surfweb: I think part of my problem is 2 different UY April and Sept. That makes for too many dates to have to keep straight. :headache:

I'm having a tough time following the issue. Can you lay out what your reservations are (dates and room type), and next to it tell us what use year points were used for the reservation?

Then next list each of your use years and what current points you have available in each of them?

My advice, go to the member website and check out your two contracts. I'd bet you have already used those 35 points or they did use those 35 points and you were still short.

If I am looking at your reservation correctly, here is what I figured:

BWV:
16 - 26 pts
17 - 22 pts
18 - 22 pts
19 - 22 pts
20 - 22 pts
21 - 22 pts = 136 pts

BCV:
16 - 56 pts
17 - 28 pts
18 - 28 pts
19 - 28 pts
20 - 28 pts
21 - 28 pts = 196 pts

You had 136 + 35 = 171 pts. So you were 25 pts short for the six nights.

Is this correct?
