I have to admit, I never understood the obsession my babysitter had with WDW.
Then I grew up. (haha)
No, really, I think much of it stems from people's ignorance (not to sound harsh, but it's true). Most people think of Disney as just a kid's place where any adults will have to listen to screaming kids all day.
They don't understand that you can go to a wonderful dinner in Epcot and have every choice under the sun. They don't understand that some of those rides are really, really fun. They are the adults that for some reason can't just laugh and be silly. Nor do they understand there are so many first class shows. I guess those people wouldn't find it romantic to be at the beach at the Polynesian or on the waterway and see fireworks.
Also, most people who have gone have usually gone in the extreme heat and thought they had to do all the rides and walk around and get exhausted. And then they were not wise on fast pass and stood in the long lines in the heat.
I wouldn't like it either if I did that.
I think when you go to Disney the most research you can do, the better of a trip you will have. Also, most people want to stay off site b/k it's cheaper. But what about the luxuries of being on site. I'm a big believer of staying on site. I know many stay off and still have a wonderful trip, but I just think some of the magic is lost when you are not in the midst of it all. (just my opinion). It's funny, my family and I went to Disney right before Christmas. We had a wonderful time including 4 days that were extremely cold. My friend and her family went in Oct. Their trip was "OK" but she says she couldn't see herself going "every year". While, my family just did a contract for DVC and I am thrilled and could go back tommorow! Each his own. But it's funny, when I asked my friend if she did this? or that? She would say, NO, I didn't know about that, what is that? Ignorance I say....or just plain jealousy. And a friend that can't be supportive just really isn't that great of a friend. Oh, and I saw that the Travel Channel was doing a show on the BCV and had some of the BWV. I called my friend and said, "This is where we will be able to stay with our points we got." "That's very nice," she said. "Nothing like what we stayed at."
And they are nice, but even when we stayed at the ASMovies, we had a blast. It's what you make of it!!! And it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.
I know I'm getting long winded. But here is another side of the situation. I told my dad (who is a major home body and does not like to travel unless it's to fish at the NC coast) that we bought into Disney. Did he critize? Nope, he said, "I know ya'll love going there and you can tell when you come back home with smiles on your faces, sharing your memories. And I am very happy for you." Now, that's a true friend!!!!
