I have a problem, a big problem....

Nope, they belong to the "practice". He is demanding about NO Holisitic medicine at all, NO PARENTS can come back with the children and payment must be made in full up front. Just such a huge change from what we did before.

What kind of practice is this? Is it Peds? and how long has he been practicing and why did he leave his last practice?

He told me it would be so much EASIER, if I was Jewish. Then he gave me the "list" and told me that we would work next Christmas and have all the Jewish holidays off.

Fine tell him that that's great so why he is taking off all the Jewish holidays you will take off the others. Christmas being the main one.

As a Nurse of 28 years (practiced for 22)I have seen Dr's like him and all the nurses laugh at them....I was a L&D nurse and we had no time for Dr's like that and although we went the extra miles for there patients we only went the care minimum for those Drs.

The Doc's we loved got so mush from us....There are Dr's that realize that they need us and cant do there Job without us and Dr's that felt we were just paid slaves for them. Not many are likek that anymore ...just some that are womanizers..

Good luck with this guy.....but if you dont set yourself straight with him in the beggining it will only get worse. What I dont understand is are you sharing space with him...or is he your boss? Is it his practice...I am kinda confussed? If it is his practice and he is paying you than why are you paying rent??????? please explain:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I have since been given a list of places I should frequent for lunch, dentistry, obgyn, allergist, dermatologist, nails, waxing, message....you get the picture.:confused3

Something drew me back to this. I find this extremely bizarre that anyone would give such a list to a co-worker or employee.
this is soooo strange.

Well I would like to see a poll of parents that would let their children be examined without them present. If for no other reason, THEY HAVE TO ASK THE PARENTS WHATS WRONG. My guess would be exactly ZERO %. Is this this guys first practice? While the other things you posted sound
discriminatory, this sounds ridiculous.

I'm just not buying this one, sorry.

Well, see, as a client I couldn't abide by that and I'd leave. I'd never agree to having my kid see a Dr. w/out me there (until s/he wanted privacy). That's just yicky. Sounds like even without "the list" he's a schmuck. Not that I have my finger on the pulse of the planet but it seems more patients are actually looking for Drs that are well-rounded regarding eastern and western medicine or at least open to discussing.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

A doctor or dentist (or other professional who touches people) that does not allow a parent back with a child, well, I consider them to be pedophiles. And when I suspect a pedophile, I tell other people about it. This doctor is in for a very difficult time, as word gets out.

As for no-holistic...the AMA lost a HUGE anti-trust lawsuit brought by the chiropractic associations, for trying to tell their practitioners who to "let" their patients see. I would imagine the AMA would hate to have suspicions brought up about that again, so if I knew that a particular doctor was refusing to let non-allopathic stuff be brought up, I would let the AMA know. And if the doctor was a member, it's possible they might contact him. I don't know if they would, but I'd do it anyway.

This dude is playing doctor-god. I was nearly killed by one of them, my mom was killed by a whole practice of them who laughed at her problems which ended up being her cause of death, and my FIL was killed by a hospital run by doctor-and-nurse-gods.

I don't like doctors who think they are gods...

Silly silly dude. What is easier is to have people who can cover on days that they don't consider holidays.

I don't see a need to doubt or attack the OP.

For one thing, being a nurse for 33 years and working in large teaching hospitals, kids who go to 4 years of college, working their butts off, go to medical school and internship/residency often are not the most social people. Many of them have known only their home environment and the college library. It is hard work and when they are residents, they get very little time for sleep let alone socializing. I can see that many might not have had experience with as many people as most of us have.

Is this doctor orthodox Jewish? I mean, does he keep Kosher and all that. Perhaps this is a reason for the list. He might be kind of a, em, fanatically religious person who wants all those in his family/environment to be as strict as he. Can't say I agree but there are people in many walks of life like that.

I think this is life's way of telling you there are better things out there for you to explore. Get busy and find a new job. As for the time you are there. I would make it clear to the office staff that all of your patient's parents are to be brought back into exam with them and any other thing you feel is necessary for you to practice medicine to your standards. Don't let the idiot make you do something against the "norm" and get in possible trouble with a family. I do believe a physician essentially needs "permission" from a parent to even examine or touch a child. Hence, their presence is mandatory for care to be given. I bet there will be a few parents who will allow this guy to do what he wants but not many, especially if they see you don't follow that custom.

I'll bet there is a great opportunity waiting for you to find it. Good luck. ;)

I was thinking the same thing.
I think the dtr is a bully and trying to get family, friends, colleagues, etc.
business by "suggesting" the OP frequents their work places.

I would bide by time until I found another job as soon as possible.
When he suggests something/someone in the meantime, I would tell him your dentist, dry cleaner, hairdresser, etc was a cousin, or some sort of relation that you were obligated too.
Sending you positive thoughts and prayers!
:flower3:

I understand that it would be a pain in many ways to own your own office, but it sounds like it would be better to be your own boss and have absolute control than worry about getting into another bad associate position. If you opened a office and ran a few newspaper ads with your photograph, I bet you would get a lot of former patients who are unhappy with the new guy. I would think that some of the front office people and nurses might not like him either and would want to come with you too.

The man must be an idiot if he doesn't want parents in the room with him, he stands the risk of being accused of inappropriatly touching a child and how does he disprove that?

I don't find it odd at all that the dr gave him a list of approved people to do business with. I see that in the Jewish community here quite frequently-they only do business with other people that are Jewish. There is nothing wrong with that but it is a little frustrating. One of DH's business partners is that way-wants to only do business with people from the Jewish community. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't but it does frustrate DH and their other partner at times.

What about the "no parent rule"? I can't see that actually being something that a doctor would do in their practice.
That part is unbelievable to me.

At my peds, I would never ever allow my child to be seen without me or dh in the room. Who would tell the doctor all the symptoms or undress a smaller child? No way that would happen. My business would be going elsewhere.

At our ped dentist, parents come back the 1st visit, then they wait every time after that. Its an open room with multiple chairs to a little more safe for me.

I'm just thinking what if this would be if it were a Christian employer doing this to a Jewish employee (there'd be a Lifetime movie made about it.)

I think I'd try to hang tough for awhile. I think he's trying to get you to quit so it will be less trouble for him and it's not right. If he sees you won't back you might come to some kind of working relationship. If not, get the heck out of there.

Could you answer the previous question? What kind of physician are you? What kind of physician is your employer/managing partner?

Sure sounds like it's time to move on. I'd be dragging out any contract that was signed looking for any non-compete clause. Is that even in effect with a new "owner?" Maybe until contracts are rewritten?

I agree with a previous poster...he's an idiot. :sad2: But I'm sure you wouldn't want to be working so closely with a person like him in the long run any way.

You could check with the medical staff office at any of the hospitals you might be on staff with. I know when I worked at a hospital in FL, the director of the department knew exactly which practices were looking to add new physicians.

Good luck!! Sorry this has happened. :(

You need to buy a website, such as drjohndoe so that when your patients google you, they can find you!

Does your income depend on patient load? I would be looking quickly, as everyone else says, your patients are going to be leaving quickly! I would leave the office if my dr. did that, I would NOT stay for the appointment.

Another parent chiming in to say, "No way in heck would I let my child go back with the Dr. without me!" I even go with DH to many of his doctor's appointments. (He's got some serious health stuff going on and likes to have me present because my take on what the Drs. say is sometimes different than his.)

Start looking for a different job. Around here, there aren't nearly enough pediatricians or general practice doctors!!!!!

I work for a Civil Rights Commission and this sounds discriminatory. If I were you, I would contact the local Civil Rights or Human Rights commission and speak with them. (especially if you are let go)
Good luck to you.

Oh, and as a parent..NO WAY would my children be seen without me present! That is absolutely crazy!!
