I have a problem, a big problem....

What about the "no parent rule"? I can't see that actually being something that a doctor would do in their practice.
That part is unbelievable to me.

Could you answer the previous question? What kind of physician are you? What kind of physician is your employer/managing partner?

I was wondering this too. I've been an RN for 18 years, and have never witnessed or heard of this type of behavior from a physician toward a fellow physician or staff-member, nor have I ever heard of a practice where parents aren't allowed to be with their children in the examining room. I have known of dental offices that didn't allow parents to go back with their child, but that's it.

I remember when my daughter was going to the dentist for the first time I took her to a pediatric dentist and when we arrived they told me I wasn't allowed to go back with her. I was stunned and said that I wouldn't let her go back by herself. They said that it was their policy and so we left.

I was like, "I'm going to let my three year old go back with a bunch of strangers out of my sight? You're kidding?"

They charged me for the appointment too, to add insult to injury!

Yes, some dentists are like that. I always asked if parents were "allowed back" before I made the appt.

I asked too after that happened! It's not like I never let her out of my sight. She went to preschool and play dates etc, but I was always welcome to be present if I wanted to. I was not even allowed to walk her back at the dentists or see where they were taking her. I guess the chances that something sinister was going to happen was low, but I just got a really bad feeling about it.

I can't believe they expect parents to do that and that parents go along with it!

I found that when my kids were little they behaved MUCH better for the dentist if I wasn't there (no one to whine to :lmao: ). I walked them back the first time or two after that they were fine on their own. The difference between the dentist and the dr is usually a 3 year old can't explain what has been going on if they have been sick or whatnot whereas with the dentist if it is just for a cleaning it is pretty straight forward.

I've always been allowed to go back with my kids in the doctors' offices and our dentist's office. I can't even imagine being told no to this. If the kids were comfortable at the dentist, I would send them on back by themselves. However, I can't imagine not being given a choice with a young child.

When she was 3 and we had never laid eyes on any of those people? Maybe when we got to know them and if she was OK with it I'd have start letting her go without me. This was my first time in that office. I'm stunned people would be OK with that.

I was able to gauge my child's reaction pretty well and the dentist made the visit very fun for the kids so yes, at age 3 (and 1 for the twins) they were just fine with the dentist without be sitting there watching them. They knew I was in the waiting room just on the other side of the door and they were just fine.

Nope, they belong to the "practice". He is demanding about NO Holisitic medicine at all, NO PARENTS can come back with the children and payment must be made in full up front. Just such a huge change from what we did before.
Parents are not allowed in the examining room with their children? What about a young child (minor)?

I would be finding a new practice if I were a patient or my child was a patient there, if they told me I couldn't be in the exam room with my child.

All of my DD's Dr's. have welcomed & encouraged parents to be in the examining room with their children.

I wouldn't be ok with that.
My first question when we were looking for a pedi dentist was if I was able to come in with them.
our pedi dentist has no problems with parents coming in. My kids would be fine with me staying in the waiting area though, they think going to the dentist is fun...LOL

I guess I'm over protective but the first time at an office where I didn't know anyone there I wouldn't have cared if she was OK with it or not, I'd be going back with her or not at all. Maybe after getting to know them it would be OK, but not the first visit.

I'd think that would open them up to lawsuits! Don't daycares get in trouble for not having open door policies? I mean, if you aren't allowed to drop in and see how things are going, I think they could be accused of things that weren't even true.

I don't see a need to doubt or attack the OP.

For one thing, being a nurse for 33 years and working in large teaching hospitals, kids who go to 4 years of college, working their butts off, go to medical school and internship/residency often are not the most social people. Many of them have known only their home environment and the college library. It is hard work and when they are residents, they get very little time for sleep let alone socializing. I can see that many might not have had experience with as many people as most of us have.

ind it. Good luck. ;)

I am not attacking-but most definitely doubting. I am just saying this story is not adding up. Everything seems wrong. I am interested to find out how long the OP has worked for this practice and I do find it strange that a doctor would post this kind of issue here-that's all I am saying:confused3 .

Agreed!

Nowhere does the OP state that she is a doctor/physician. :scratchin

$5 the OP is a chiropractor and they are considered (and consider themselves) Doctors.

That's why there is talk of 'holistic' medicine, and thats why she 'rented' her space from the former owner.

I have a couple Chiropractor friends. :)

Not taking that bet. ;) Sounds like a reasonable assumption.

Or could be a physical therapist. I could see that too.

I don't have the time, or maybe the desire, to read through all the replies to know if this has been mentioned, but I think getting advice from an attorney may be better than a Disney discussion board. This seems like a larger issue that I would want to get solved by a professional rather than strangers on the Internet. Just my opinion.....

Am I the only one who's seeing a deeper agenda here? I don't know, but the OP seems to be harping on the fact that the new doctor is Jewish. How does that matter to the story? He sounds like a jerk, regardless of his religion or ethnicity.

It matters to the story because he said "It would be easier if you were Jewish - we will work Christian Holidays, and have Jewish ones off - here is the list of approved Jewish places I want you to use"

It wouldnt make any sense if she didnt add that little tid bit of info in.
