This is so confusing to me to many questions LOL
We have the dates May 29th - June 5th and want to stay in a house, already have a few in mind. We will be driving. We will have a 9 and 10 year old the aren't really in the characters but love rides, they know the are people dressed in costumes. I really want to have the memory of going to Disney so I know we should go there but I think the kids would love universal more. We will be going to the beach also. We don't have a ton of money either (who does). This will be a big surprise for them we might not even tell them where we are going until we get there.
So here come the questions....

Will it cost us more if we wait and ask the kids when we arrive where they would like to go or buy online soon and just deal with it.

Should we just do one or both, or try one now and plan on going back.

Can I buy the DW tickets online with disney gift cards? I heard I can get them from Target with my %% off?

Do you think it is possible to do more than one park in one day? Should we get the park hopper thing?
I know I have more but this is all I can think of right now.

Yes you can pay for your tickets online with gift cards
I enjoy park hopping myself it's just one flat fee.however you need to decide your family's touring style

Either way enjoy the trip

I would try one and do the other in another trip. Your kids are the ages where both would be fun, but don't underestimate Disney. They are the age that is in the sweet spot for Disney! There is so much more than characters. I would spend the limited time at Disney and do Universal next trip. There will be so much to see. There are ways to save money at Disney. Check out some of the money saving tips on threads here. If you have a Target credit card you can get a few percent off purchasing the gift cards.

Park hopper is very much a matter of opinion. I love it and get it every time. You can rope drop a park and see everything the kids want to see and then go elsewhere. But, it isn't necessary if you want to do a full day in each park. Depends on your plans. If possible, I'd suggest getting the park hopper. You will get tired or want to leave a park. After a nap or rest you can go elsewhere.
