My family stayed at BLT 11/27 till 12/4. The second night we were there, I heard something in the middle of the night and got out of bed. I walked to the bathroom and an employee was standing outside the bathroom door, threw a blanket at me and said, "Here's your blanket you ordered" and rushed out of the room!!!! We hadn't ordered a blanket!!! He was obviously surprised to see me and literally threw the blanket! We complained but management was actually rude and said it was mistake. The next night, I made sure the extra lock was put into place. Again, in the middle of the night my husband and I both sat straight up in the bed when we heard someone trying to open our door!!! The door opened a little but the extra lock caught it!! The next day we complained again but were not taken seriously. My daughter is a photographer and had left some expensive equipment in the room while we were at the Parks. After she put her stuff in the safe we had no other problems. But, it was really scary to find a man in our room while we were sleeping.

Why did you even talk to manager ? Why wouldn't first person you talk to be a 9 1 1 operator ?

Nope, nothing has ever been taken. We do use the safe to put cash and our wallets in (with credit cards, ID's, etc. in). But we have left out computers, cameras, and other expensive stuff and no one has touched it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Protect what you can and have fun!

As a side note, we also leave all kinds of stuff in the stroller at parks. Never had anything taken from there either. Knock on wood.

No offense, but how dumb are you? I know you're staying at the most magical place on earth, but if I woke up and a strange person was in my room, I'd call the police.

A. Always use the extra lock from the inside when we are in the room. At first to keep my kids in and now to keep anyone else out.

B. Why would you call 9-1-1 for someone accidentally delivering a blanket to the wrong room??

C. While checking in at Beach Club on Monday - I heard the front desk trainer call up to a floor manager to have them open the safe for someone that lost their key in the wave pool - she heard that particular manager had the master keys for the day. So there must be a master key to the safes.

To answer original post - yes. I had my credit card stolen and used. Spent an entire day filling a police report. They caught one of the housekeepers using it to get gas. This was about 12ish years ago though and I've never had anything stolen since.

Nope..and we have stayed value to DVC..We don't bring anything of value and what we do bring is locked in the room safe

We also received a blanket we didn't order and was told it was a mistake. The whole thing was quite suspicious as we learned how it unfolded. We had a relative in an adjoining room. He heard something in our room (we had the connecting door open). When he went to investigate, he saw someone go to the restroom. It was dark (very late at night) and he thought it was one of us returning from the park to go to the restroom. I don't know why he thought that, but he did. He heard the door to the hallway close shortly after that.

Our door was locked. Our children were asleep in that room while DH and I went to the park. When we returned we saw a blanket on the edge of the bed where our child was sleeping, closest to the door. Our extra blanket was still in the closet. We found out about it when we asked our relative the next morning. Very scary to us.

Nothing was missing, but the whole thing had a very "off" feeling about it. It was at the Grand Floridian. I did talk to the manager. She confirmed someone had gone to our room by mistake. She apologized. The experience made us very uncomfortable. Unsettling.

Noting was taken. But we lost a sense of security after that. Everyone is different. I'm sure lots of people would scoff at our POV. But the details of the story made it quite distressing.

ETA: In the future when we have adjoining rooms we will put the extra latch on. We learned a valuable lesson. We DID have the, "Do not disturb", placard on the door.

I've never had anything of value taken from rooms. I have had a few situations, however, that were concerning. We also leave all of our personal items out of sight when we leave the room--cosmetics in a cosmetic bag, personal shampoo and conditioner put away. (I am also one whose hair is a frizzy mess if I don't use the particular products I bring from home). Money and small valuables in the safe, computer, cameras, ipad, etc, hidden under clothing in drawers. I use a small crossbody bag that only holds a small cameral, money, key, etc the the park, so my purse is actually empty, but stowed in a suitcase.

Our most recent trip, we stayed at Kidani village, room 7562, and I don't think the safe was working properly. The first day, when we came back from the park, I thought that my husband had unlocked the safe after I had locked it, but, then I discovered that the latch wasn't latching properly. If I gave a moderately strong tug on the door, as I would do to test it, it opened right up. I actually didn't report the safe as malfunctioning until we left, because we were staying at DVC on points, and housekeeping doesn't come every day (one of the reasons that I like DVC). I didn't want anybody in the room working on the safe if we weren't there, and I didn't want to have to wait in the room all day to wait for somebody to work on the safe. But, fortunately, nothing turned up missing. But, we took additional precautions, because, actually, the safe wasn't working correctly. So,that is something I will file away for the next visit to Kidani village.

I had another incident, similar to one of an earlier poster, which totally freaked me out. It was in December, 2010, and I was staying at Kidani village with my son, who was 12 at the time. We had come back to the room in the evening, and I had no sooner gotten into the room, and put my bag down, when there was somebody at the door. I looked through the peephole, and asked what they needed. It was somebody who claimed to be from maintenance. I said that we hadn't called maintenance and called down to the desk. Didn't let them in the room, of course. Turned out that the guy had gone to a room on the wrong floor (right room location, but wrong floor). But, I still complained, and made sure I had an explanation that satisfied me.

Then there was the time my son lost his game boy. This occurred when he was 6. The last time I remember that he had it, we were outside at AKL watching the animals. Then, my husband took my son to the restroom, and we then went inside to have dinner at Boma. We were staying at Grand Floridian that trip. My husband left my son off outside the lobby, and parked the car. The next morning we were leaving, and while packing, that is when my son discovered that the game boy was missing. Actually, my husband and son didn't discover it was missing until after they had checked out of the room, and called me (I was at a meeting) to ask where it was. My son was so young at the time, but, from what he told me, it sounds like he may have put it into the mini-bar in the room. In any case, despite reporting it missing, and checking with lost and found for months afterwards, it never turned up. So, possibly housekeeping had taken it, but I think my son left it somewhere. Given that my son thinks he put it in the mini-bar, and knowing that the mini-bar is checked, and we are billed if anything was used, I would imagine it would have been seen had it been there. The game boy was labeled with my son's name and phone number, so it wouldn't have been impossible to return.

So, I think WDW is fairly safe, and the people who work there are reasonable honest, but, I take the usual precautions I normally do while traveling.

Yes, I know it's going to sound stupid, but it's really the only explanation. My DS has a tiger pillow pet thing that is like a stuffed animal on the outside and it comes with a blanket that you can keep inside to make it a pillow. We take it every time we take a trip, and in 2009 we took it and stayed at Pop. He had the blanket part out of it during our stay and used the tiger part, just as a stuffed animal. Well one night after being gone at the parks all day, towards the end of our trip, the stuffed animal part was gone. We looked everywhere (as he slept with it each night) and it was nowhere to be found. There's no way we took it to the parks with us and no one else had access to our room, so the only explanation is that housekeeping took it.

Yes, I'm glad it wasn't anything expensive or vital (like my purse that I keep hidden in multiple suitcases, but still, it really upset me. I've since replaced the tiger, but many times I'll leave the "do not disturb" sign on our doors now and just go get towels when needed.

Like someone else said, it probably got wrapped up in the sheets. It happened to my stuffed moose, and I, not being a child who can easily move on to the next stuffed animal, worked with lost & found and mousekeeping until my moose was found. The lost & found CM went to the laundry facility every day until he turned up. I'm forever thankful for them not giving up because I was a 23 year old crying about a stuffed moose That moose has been all over the real world and got lost at The World!

Nope and I remember on our last trip we left for the day without closing the safe and it had cash , credit card and my husband’s gun in it..I have left expensive jewelry on the bathroom counter(forgot to put it back on) and our laptop lying out and never has anything gone missing I guess maybe we should be more careful but never really thought anyone would rip us off.

That's worth a call to the police, not just hotel management.

I'm also not one to raise a commotion but if that happened to me once - let alone twice - without my complaint being taken seriously, I would not let up until whatever Disney Vice President is in charge of hotel operations contacted me personally.

I would have FREAKED THE HECK OUT. That would have triggered every 'fight' response I have in my non-rational-thinking brain.

I cannot believe they blew you off, that is worth a call to the police and I would keep calling WDW till I got some sort of response.

We have always locked the safe and put the key in one of our tennis shoes that we werent wearing. I am afraid we will lose the key too...so it stays safely in the toe of our shoe.

That is very scary. I always lock the extra swing over lock anytime we are in our room...day or night. I dont want someone using the master key to get in. I do this at all hotels...at WDW or any other place of travel.

We have only stayed at the Poly and PFQ. Poly had the digital keypad and POFQ had the key safe.

We have put extra money in the safe.

You would not call 9-1-1 for delivering a blanket to the wrong room. You wold call 911 because you woke up to a stranger in your room without your permission. People delivering blankets in the middle of the night to a room that just called for one do not let themselves into the rooms. They knock and wait to be admitted.
