if your answer is-- bigger boat for sharks, why can't we just get bigger fences for pit bulls?

I really wish my neighbor who has a pitt would get a fence. stupid stupid person he is. someone is gonna get hurt by that dog I just pray its not one of my kids like he warned me about. I should NOT be afraid to let my kids play on my porch alone because that dog might come after them. I dont mind them playing in the yard alone but what if it jumps OUR fence and gets in and attacks them? How can I stop it? Remember these are the people who WARNED me that this dog will KILL my children if it gets near them!

Well the topic was really google smart ads, not pit bulls - so I like where you are going.

I don't like the word rural, it makes me feel like I have a speech impedement.

Just today at work, I told the girls I think I had a stroke. I'm having trouble pronouncing words. I know it's because I think faster than I can talk, so I'm trying to slow down when I talk. The problem is when I do that, I sound like Padma from Top Chef, like I'm always on ludes....

I can't help but wonder if that many people are actually KILLED in coconut related accidents, how many folks are just wounded?

I just can't get past the coconuts--I'm fascinated with this statistic and wonder how come I've never heard of any coconut related deaths before if they're that prevalent.

Back when German Shepherds were the mean, agressive dangerous dog breed - the one that would eat the face off of your child and then maul you to death - we had a shepherd who was a real sweetie, so I completely understand OP's frustration.
We would all be terribly offended if someone said something like "All Mexicans are lazy" or "All Italians are violent" because it is a stereotype. Are some Mexicans lazy? Sure, but the majority are not, and so are some whites, some balcks, some Asians, and so on. Are some Italians violent? Sure, but people of other ethnicities are violent, too. Same thing with Pit Bulls. Are some viscous attack dogs? Sure. Are they all? No way.

Final note: Contrary to popular belief, all collies will nto let you know if your child has fallen down a well or that the neighbor's barn is on fire.

Can you report them for not properly leashing or restraining the dog when it's out? Even report that they told you that dog would kill your children if they got around it? It just seems insane that they wouldn't do anything to keep the dog restrained especially since they warned you it would kill humans.

Out of curiosity, are they guessing the dog would kill b/c of it's behavior or has it killed or hurt someone in the past?

I don't remember this time period, I think of them (and always have) as police dogs, Rin Tin Tin, gorgeous animals, sweet temperment.

You don't seem many pit bull police dogs though. (I never have)

So does that mean you don't go into the ocean? Since there is a possibility you can be attacked by a shark-- or are you going to try to get people to ban sharks, too?

Pit Bull's aren't all dangerous animals. It's narrow-minded to class one person/thing with everyone else like them.

Gotta go now-- my friend's funeral is today. He was 23-- and NO he didn't die from a pit-bull attack.. it was the flu. Maybe we should ban that, too?

ITA....I remember growing up in the early 70's it was the German Sheppards that were "monsters" then sometime in the late 70-early 80 doberman became the animal of choice for thugs and use as the mean vicious dogs on TV etc. They became the monsters that were going to eat your children. sometime in the late 80-early 90 is was the roitowellers. Now is is the American Pit Bull.
Pits have haven been around for a long time. If they are such "monster killers who kill for sport, turn on their owners etc"...why didn't they have the reputation of being "monsters" before them?

The false identification of many breeds as pits (from "witnesses and the media)is a huge part of the problem.

You are walking around with a false sense of security.
When those who would like a "big mean attack dog" decide they will just go back to using German Shepards, Rotwielers or Dobermans(or they come up with a different breed), how will the law against pits protect you?
The laws should ban/punish etc...back yard breeders, irresponsible pets owners, dog fighting etc...no matter what breed it applies to.
Breed specific laws only punish responsible pet owners and cause a false sense of security.

Hello just how would you punish "them" before they are caught. Ban all men since they are more likely to become pedophiles. That makes just as much sense as breed specific laws IMHO.

Police dogs do not have a sweet temperment. Have you ever watched Cops? I've first hand seen a police dog in action. His handler had fallen on ice and was unconsious. The dog would not let anyone, including cops and emts near the officer. So you have an unconsious cop unable to get help because his dog is going balistic. And to the PP if you don't like the fact that your neighbor has a pit with no fence then maybe you should build a fence on your own.

I recognized some of the dogs right off the bat as not being the American Pitt Bull Terrier, but it took me 4 tries to find the right one!
