Here being where I live. We have a winterstorm warning going on right now. The first snow of the season started today and boy did it come in with a bang!
A storm warning means severe winter weather is or will be occuring. We are forecasted for snow showers and will accumulate 6-12 inches over night. In addition to that there is heavy wind so there will be blowing and drifting snow.

My DH is at work. He gets off at 11. We haven't put our snow tires on yet because we are leaving for WDW in a few days and didn't want to drive all the way there with them on.

He works at a hospital and I'm thinking of calling him and telling him to bunk there for the night. My Grandma has a police scanner and it's been going off all night with over turned cars and cars in ditches.

I'm not sure if I can handle another winter of waiting with my stomach in knots for my DH to make it home. Last winter was our first here and I wish it had been our last.

I'll take California's smog, and traffic anyday over this. I'm just worried..... :sad2: :sad1:

I know, I don't blame you. Honeslty I live in MI too (you know that) and I know I couldn't live up there. It is a different world.

All I can say is hang in there. Soon you will be in FLA. That was my deal with my husband, as long was we stay in MI I get to take a winter vacation to FLA or some other place like that. (as long as we can afford it.)

This year our vacation is in Jan. Only problem with that is once it is done what do I have to look forward to for the next 5 months?

At least so far the weather hasn't been too bad (until today.)

Oh and we spent all day cleaning up our damp carpeted basement after the 2 inches of rain yesterday (thank God for our capret cleaner it sucked it all up! :teeth:

Think happy thoughts, go to your happy places.

Hum it is a small world and the mexico ride song. That works for me. Try listeing to WDW music online or CD's.

You have my sympathy as a New Yorker, and one who used to reside in Upstate NY. I'm not looking forward to the first snow when it arrives, inevitably.

But, you get to go to Florida soon! Yay! Here's some pixie dust to make all that snow melt, and to make your wait go faster :wizard:

Yes, I agree, as winter in Boston is such fun. If I didn't have to walk 2 miles a day as part of my commute I'd still like the snow. You probably get more snow than I though, as we live on the coast and we don't usually get inches and inches - except for last winter! But ... enjoy your vacation! Smile all your way down Main Street and think of all of us up here in the North!

Thanks guys.
It's just so hard to be sitting home in a quiet house (the kids are asleep) watching the snow pile up and blow everywhere and know that in about an hour and a half my poor DH will be out driving in that.
I just spoke to my uncle who lives here too and he said that coming home the most he got up to was 35 mph and he was sliding everywhere. Great. Cause if I wasn't worried before......
Anyways thanks again.

I can totally understand your frustration with the weather! I grew up in NY and CT and went to college in Boston. I now live in Florida and I actually MISS the cold weather. There is something about Christmas season with cold weather, and wearing sweaters and having fires to sit by. Here in Florida we have hot, hotter or hottest...hurricanes and humidity. That can be frustrating! I think NC has the perfect mix of weather...hot summers, beautiful spring time and mild but chilly winters.

Have a wonderful time at WDW and be safe!

I hope it makes it home safe and I'm sure he will. It's good that he works somewhere that he can sleep to save the journey, although I'm sure you'd rather have him keeping you warm at home!
Either way, let us know when he's home safe :grouphug:
I totally understand your worry. BF lives in a dangerous area and doesn't drive and I go through a similar thing waiting for him to get home safe a lot. Likewise it's the main reason I HATE my area too :grouphug: :grouphug:

I agree somewhat! It would be nice once in a while to make up some hot cocoa and toast and sit by the fire in December instead of outside waiting for a little breeze to come through!

As someone who lives in England where you have cold or coldest, you get no sympathy from me ;) but I just wondered, which state is NC?

I have to agree with you. Lots of people dream of living in Florida but the reality of the heat and not having a Christmas-y feel to the weather is difficult to take. And this weather phenomenon going on here with so many hurricane threats is going to send me to the looney bin soon.

I was thinking about that last night. It was such a major rain/thunder storm. The streets were just terrible flooded with leaves all in the gutters (not picked up yet). Today we have possible snow (real snow up were mommaU4 is). I started to think about how much I don't like the weather, but then how there is bad weather sometimes no mater where you are.

I don't like winter, I wish it wasn't so long, but the summers are nice around here. No hurricanes, no earthquakes, no MAJOR floods. All in all it ain't too bad. Then again ask me again in Feb and I might not say the same thing. :cold:

I'm flying into MI next week for Thanksgiving. Any ideas for the weather there yet? I would do the hand map thing but can't figure that out. I'm driving into St. Jospeh if anyone knows where that is.

I feel for you. My wife and I are both in the Coast Guard, and are getting ready to transfer. The only two restrictions were nothing west of the MIssissippi, and nothing North of Virginia.

Winter stinks.

He's home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Safe and sound!!! :goodvibes :flower: :cloud9:

He left work a little early and went real slow (25 mph!) and made it home. We live about 30 minutes from town on a good day btw, so this was really slow going.
Of course the snow in out driveway is so deep that he got stuck halfways up it and had to run in his tennis shoes the rest of the way (LOL) but at least he made it home.

Thanks to all who posted. Our power went out too. Obviously it's back on now and I hope it stays that way. I have candles and flashlights standing by though just in case.
I'm pretty sure the kids will have a snow day tomorrow. Can't imagine them going in this mess.
It started snowing about 2:00 this afternoon and as of yet (twenty to midnight) has not slowed or stopped!

I don't hate it now that DH is home. Well, not as much as I did a while ago. ;)

We had that "storm" the other day. We were suppose to get 8" of snow and while it snowed all day, most of it melted and we ended up with a light dusting. The winds were HORRIBLE and it is always windy here. It is 8 degrees right now, but it is suppose to warm into the 45 degree range over the weekend.

I live in Maine- I feel your pain. Hate driving in the stuff. My dh is an electrician and when the power goes out, he is out trying to get it back on. He is out in all kinds of weather- snow storms, ice storms, wind storms... I just try not to think about it. He knows how to drive in it, I just try to remember that!

I'm from Claremont, California, and live in the Ann Arbor area, so I know how scary it can be to wait for someone to get home in bad weather conditions! I've been pleased with how well the streets are kept snow-free around here though. You must live well north of me if you're already getting accumulation! Our time will come down here in the southeast! At least here in Michigan, we can afford to live in decent houses! :flower:

Stay warm and safe, just think there are people who would love to see some snow. Actually, my kids would love that storm warning, they would have their eyes glued to the news stations...looking for a school delay/closing, LOL.

Another thing to remember is that 90% of those cars in the ditches are people that just won't slow down and drive to the weather conditions. I know a couple years ago we had some ice and snow when we were visiting DH's family. We had planned on going shopping the next day and went to test the roads. They were slippery but drivable if you were careful. Well, we saw a bunch of SUV's in the ditches because of course many SUV drivers think their car can handle anything. The rest of the traffic was just fine even in not so nice weather. Another time I got caught in an ice storm, which are WAY worse then snow, and almost everyone was driving about 5 MPH, except the one guy who think his car can do anything on ice. Well, he came "flying" by me going probably 40 MPH and about 2 blocks later he was smashed up against the median, the only accident I saw the whole way. Most people in the northern states know how to drive safely in bad weather.
