I hate it here!

Another thing to remember is that 90% of those cars in the ditches are people that just won't slow down and drive to the weather conditions. I know a couple years ago we had some ice and snow when we were visiting DH's family. We had planned on going shopping the next day and went to test the roads. They were slippery but drivable if you were careful. Well, we saw a bunch of SUV's in the ditches because of course many SUV drivers think their car can handle anything. The rest of the traffic was just fine even in not so nice weather. Another time I got caught in an ice storm, which are WAY worse then snow, and almost everyone was driving about 5 MPH, except the one guy who think his car can do anything on ice. Well, he came "flying" by me going probably 40 MPH and about 2 blocks later he was smashed up against the median, the only accident I saw the whole way. Most people in the northern states know how to drive safely in bad weather.

AMEN, Golfgal! ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I'm from Claremont, California, and live in the Ann Arbor area, so I know how scary it can be to wait for someone to get home in bad weather conditions! I've been pleased with how well the streets are kept snow-free around here though. You must live well north of me if you're already getting accumulation! Our time will come down here in the southeast! At least here in Michigan, we can afford to live in decent houses! :flower:
We are about 4 hours north of you and last night we got alot of accumulation. A little over a foot worth. But I agree with you on the housing issue especially compared to CA. That's why we moved! :flower:

Wow you aren't that terribly far from me and yet you are getting stomped with snow. Sure feel for you. I dread when it will happen to us and it always does. So far all we have is flurries. Sure glad DH made it home safe. I know how mind boggling it is waiting for loved ones to make it home. Have a great time in Florida. Wish I was going.

I'll be right behind you....that sounds like our winter! Even our ski resort is opening early (usually opens Thanksgiving Day) 'cause they have enough in the mountains already! The driving bothers me, too. DH used to work at home but moved out to an office to be close to the high school and DS. Maybe he can work from home alot this winter.....I feel the same way about the stomach stress! Especially when everyone else has some place to go during the snow storms but me!! We used to be able to put weather tickers and stuff on our siggies but that had to stop...maybe we should start a general weather thread so we can keep an eye on each other this winter!! :umbrella:

That could be a good idea, because so many people live where there is nasty weather coming up this time of year. Even in the warmer states like CA. they have rain and flooding to deal with. I bet as winter progresses we will see lots of threads about the weather, most of it not good! :goodvibes

This is the exact reason we just moved to Charleston, SC 3 months ago. :goodvibes I am a worry wort. I could not handle wondering if everyone was going to get home safe, I hated having to get up 20 minutes early just to let my car defrost and stand in a foot of snow to scrape off my windshield (didn't have a garage.) I'll be interested to see how the winter here is. So far it's been in the 80's (until today when we are getting a cold front moving through.) I'll keep all you snowbunnies in my prayers. We will actually be going back north for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I hope it settles down. Normally there aren't many bad snows before January.

I am a teacher, however, and I know I will miss snow days :guilty: But making them up in the summer or losing part of your Easter break always stunk too ;)
