because a friend of mine (who has been there for me through a lot) had gotten into some financial trouble and I didn't feel right leaving her in a bind while I went off to Florida. So, I got my parents' permission to use the money they'd spent on the trip to help her instead. Since I was a little down about missing it, I decided to go for a little overnight getaway to Virginia Beach on Monday afternoon/night and come back on Tuesday afternoon.

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip, but that was VERY generous of you. You're a good friend.:D

That is nice of you to want to help your friend- BUT you better consider the money a "gift" to her and not expect her to pay you back.... if she does that's great but in my experience (and about everyone else I know too) it doesn't happen very often!

I know, Mermaid and I'm okay with that :) I'm just happy I was able to help and I know she would have done the same for me if circumstances were reversed.

That's the right attitude Becki! It's very nice of you to help your friend out- she is lucky to have you and it sounds like you are lucky to have her too!

What a run of bad luck

You didn't get to go to Salt Lake City, Europe, or the other trip to WDW with Thom and your kids either.

Actually, I did go to Salt Lake this summer (just didn't get to do the original trip)...I've got some great pictures of the trip I went on in July. I also got to go to Texas in August.

I would've taken the trip to WDW. It's great your parents were understanding about letting you give their gift to you indirectly to your friend, not many gift givers would be happy with that. I would've found another way to help my friend.

You are a wonderful friend! Sorry you can't go but at least you know your friend will be okay for a little bit longer.

Browneyes, I never would have done it without having their permission first but they also know this friend and totally understood :)

I'm not saying I think it's wrong that you did that, Becki (I read where you said you asked them first:) ), it's just I'd feel funny about asking in the first place if I had the choice. I think it's great you helped your friend, that you were in a position to do so.:) I'm just saying if I were in your shoes, I would've taken the trip also.:)

Your a better person than me Becki---I'd have a hard time giving up a trip to WDW!

Browneyes, I didn't think you were criticizing :)
By the way, while I appreciate the fact that a lot of you are calling me a good friend :) I didn't start the thread to get compliments on that. I just wanted to explain why you'd get details of a trip to Virginia Beach when I was supposed to be at WDW. Blondie, I did have a really hard time doing it and I had to think a lot about it :) I might be a little down tomorrow since that's when I was supposed to leave but I know you all will cheer me up.

This isn't the friend with the child support issues, is it?

I wouldn't have been able to do it because I always buy the cheap nonrefundable tickets.

Well after all the drama and stress in your life it's great that you've gotten some vacation time this year.

But still - according to your original post you were flying and your parents had purchased the Discovery Magic package for you. I'm shocked that you can get your money back -- one day before you were supposed to leave and all.

I'm sorry that you're missing your trip.

Toby'sFriend, I cancelled about a month ago. Lilmermaid, no it's not that same friend....that was a guy and this was a woman.
