Yesterday afternoon, I was at DTD and decided to eat at Cookes of Dublin for lunch. I have heard so many wonderful things, I thought I would try it. The couple in front of me ordered a chicken salad and the shrimp and chips. I also ordered shrimp and chips. So, when they were called, the couple in front of me picked up their order and took it back to their table. Afew minutes later (probably no more than 2-3), they took their orders back to the counter. He had changed his mind and wanted fish and chips and she didn't get the type of salad she wanted. Well, when he took his shrimp back, something told me to watch the cm behind the counter because I had also ordered shrimp and my order was next. Sure enough he tried to give me the same shrimp the guy had brought back. But what got me was when I asked him if that was the same shrimp, he acted like there was absolutely nothing wrong with giving me the same shrimp someone else had returned. In fact, his response was, "I used tongs to pick them out, and he didn't eat any." Well, I asked him, very nicely, for fresh shrimp, he got visibly angry and said, "Well, it will be another few minutes then. I just don't understand." I then asked for the manager. But the manager didn't seem to think anything was wrong either. Is it me or was I overreacting? Please let me know what you think. BTW, the food was great!!

I think you were totally in the right. That's horrible customer service! The shrimp left the kitchen and was in someone else's hands. Giving it to you is not very sanitary, IMO. The customer could've sneezed in it, dropped a pice or two, etc. Ridiculous. You did the right thing.:)

I totally agree that you were right to ask for fresh shrimp. How do you know what the other customer may have done when they took the foor to their table. They could have sneezed on it or any number of other worse things, It makes me cringe to think of what that food may have been through once it left the counter. The restaurant should be reported to the Board of Health. And why would you have to wait longer, your order should already have been being prepared for you while you were waiting.

No they should not of given you food that another non-employee had handled even if they didn't touch the food it self. Actually it is a health code violation were I am from. If you order something here and they hand it to you and it isn't right they will say keep it we can't take it back after you touch it and then give you what you did order. For they knew he could of put a whole bunch of salt or something on it. I don't know but I do agree that should not be considered appropriate.

You were not overreacting. That's disgusting. I don't know what the health dept. rules are in FL, but in my state, returned food has to be thrown in the garbage. Restaurant employees don't know what someone might have done with the food and they are taking a big risk passing it on to another patron. Makes you wonder how many times Cookes has re-served food. :sad2:

Where's Gordon when you need him? :cool1:

Definitely a health code violation. I think the staff need's a refresher course in basic kitchen food safety!

Oh I would have had a fit! You do not do that in a dining establishment, what are they idiots???

We went to Chilis the other day and ordered the sampler platter with the new chicken fried chicken tenders (DH was dying to try these). When they came out they brought the chipolte bbq ones instead and the I pointed it out to the server. He said well try these and I will tell the cook to make new ones for you. I felt bad and told him to forget it but he said, no worries, we cannot resell them and they will just be eaten by the kitchen staff or tossed in the trash so please enjoy.

I work in fast food and we're told that ANY FOOD THAT GOES OVER THE COUNTER AND COMES BACK MUST BE TOSSED OUT AND NOT RE-SERVED (emphasis mine).

He should be reprimanded (along with the manager who didn't give a crap) and your money refunded.

I would have done the same thing - that is just gross and I cannot believe that the manager also thought it was fine to do.
I was once at a popular chain restaurant and was watching a server bring a meal out and serve it to the wrong patron (wrong table). He quickly realized and called her back over. I then saw her promptly pick it up and take it to a different table and place it in front of the correct person who had no clue. I was completely disgusted and have never eaten there again.

terrible. I would of done the same thing. Refused that plate. I cant believe a restaurant would do that. Now I know why I always break rolls apart that dont get eaten. I dont want them passed on.

I thought only things like that happened in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

You were definitely in the right by asking for a new order. I probably would have asked for my money back and ate somewhere else. Who knows what other health codes they violate when even the manager couldn't see what was wrong in this instance.

I know one place I won't be eating at WDW!

You should never give the food to the next person, it should always be taken back to the kitchen - repackaged - and served further down the line so it is not noticed. Serving it to the next person in line is just bad technique!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

Really, that is way out of line. I would give that kid his final pay check if he was working for me. Isn't it funny how the lowest paid people always seem to act like the profit is coming out of their pocket. They don't understand the fact when we price a menu item, we factor in a little extra for loss. Why would he get so mad about it? Just do your stinking job and ensure this customer leaves happy & comes back at a later date; leave the counting of nickels and dimes to those of us who it actually affects!!

:thumbsup2

I would report them to the health dept explaining that you took it up with the manager and HE saw nothing wrong with it. If you don't then they will just keep doing this to other guests.

You are not overreacting and that place should be reported. If it was just a stupid kid at the counter that's one thing, but to have the manager be as lax puts this right over the edge. All I know is, I know where I'm not going on my next trip.

Yeeeuck! You were totally justified. I mean, for all you know the first guy picked it up and sniffed it, licked it, who knows what.

There were actually THREE people in the wrong though: the CS kid, the manager, and the customer who changed his mind and expected the restaurant to pick up the tab. Sheesh.

One time at Epcot we ordered some hamburger meals. When we picked up the order and walked back to our table, we realized they'd accidentally given us one extra burger. We tried to give it back to them, but they told us to keep it. So, clearly, some people know what the rules are ;)

What gets me are when restaurants don't cook something enough and try to cook it some more rather than starting over. Am I crazy or is there or shouldn't there be a health code violation against sticking back on a grill/oven/etc something that's already been in the customers hands (well, hopefully not literally). I read this all the time about people sending back undercooked steaks only to receive the same steak back, now rubbery or charred. And people usually realize a steak is undercooked by actually cutting into it. Sure, maybe the heat will kill anything your hands/utensils may have put on the food, but ugh...still. In fact, a few weeks ago I went to a really good, very popular Thai place I've been to many times, but this time received some VERY undercooked shrimp. I mean, half the shrimp were still gray  , but I didn't really notice until I'd stirred together the rice and sauce, and eaten half of one of the shrimps. I didn't want someone to spit in my food (and not kidding, have read # of reviews about mgmt always siding with the staff), so I pointed it out to the waitress as apologetically and nicely as I could, and she cheerfully took it back to the kitchen. My plate came back...shrimp nicely cooked, however it was the same rice/sauce I'd stirred together and the half-eaten piece of shrimp. OOOooooookay. :crazy2: I just gave up and ate a burger later ;) But I feel pretty badly for anyone else who was having food cooked near mine.

That is awful and disgusting!!!!!!!! I would seriously report it especially if you know any of their names. That is wrong at WDW or any where else!

I have worked food service and served drinks once it leaves my hand its the customers or the trash no in between. I have filled cups with the wrong drinks sit it on the counter and realised it was wrong picked it back up without them touching it,that is safe, but if they so much as touch the cup its no longer re-sellable.

If the chef and manager thinks this behavior is ok they need to be reported because it worries me what else they find to be Ok. YUCK!!!

Definitely not good. My wife and I were in a restaurant one time when the waitress took the basket of bread off of our table and placed it on another.

Think I'll be skipping that particular establishment... If the manager is ok with that, what other health codes does he think are silly?
