We buy APs every other year because of work related travel planning issues. In the cycle of life for the AP we always make 2 to 3 trips.

However thus is our off period before we go back and because you need your tickets to use the FP+ we are blocked out because I won't pay Disney 2 months in advance for tickets I don't need till then.

But you can buy AP vouchers and use the number on them to schedule FP+ even before the tickets are activated. We just did that for our upcoming Dec. trip.

I don't like to pay the shipping for the voucher and was able to use the will call number on my PAP to do the preplanning for our October trip.

Is the problem paying before you need it? I do not think there's a way around that.

Yep we are a little caught up in this too. This FP+ option is changing the way we purchase tickets now. I suspect no guest will need to purchase upon arrival now if they want FP+. We arrive on Jan. 22, but my AP expires Jan. 24, so I figured I'll renew when I arrive. Now in order to get FP+ selections I have to renew prior to arriving. While I don't have a problem with that, I have at least 12 gift cards that I wanted to apply and since you are limited to 2 forms of payment renewing online I can use them all. I was hoping that since my trip started before my AP expired, I would get a "grace" period, but I've already did a test and it shows I have a valid ticket on Jan. 24, but when I advance to Jan. 25 it shows no valid admission. So I have to wait now until my 60 day mark to buy my renewal will call certificate. This new system now affects those folks who have a single day ticket that they want to apply to the cost of purchasing an AP and can only do it in person.
