I guess the cast of Jersey Shore isn't white enough for A & F

Am I missing something? Are you part of the Jersey Shore cast?????

Personally, I can totally understand A&F wishing to disassociate themselves from the show...whether it's a true association or a perceived one. I wouldn't associate with the show's cast for love or money.

While I totally advocate freedom of speech, I would say that this show's free speech degrades the cast and the people with whom they associate.

I'm Italian. I don't associate myself with their lifestyle, their opinions, or their values. My childhood was spent at Seaside and although the place isn't squeaky clean, the boardwalk was always fun...and I am talking about many years ago. Today it's not pristine but it's also not the hellhole some people imagine.

We laugh at these people. They are making money hand over fist...so I guess they get the last laugh. But I have my values and my dignity....and I wouldn't trade it for their lifestyle in a million years.

I too am confused as to where the race comes into this. I have reread the article and others i found online and can find nothing about race.

The photo shoot took place in Coney Island beach at night last fall. This is them waiting for their shoot.

Im Italian too. This show is an extreme characterization. Italians arent brainless wannabe's with inflated ego's. This cast explains what the peen, on a ball peen hammer, is for.

Italians arent morons like this show depicts.

Well, I mean, they ARE a funny color of orange...

:lmao:

I am not shocked that a retailer would want to distance themselves from the cast of the show.

LOL, a company with a history of raunchy advertising, racism, and discrimination is worried that some "offensive" reality TV characters are wearing their clothing?? Give me a break. If they truly were concerned, why wouldn't they PRIVATELY make the offer to the cast? They are just trying to drum up some controvery....you have to give their marketing department credit!

Abercrombie & Fitch (I think they own Hollister too) has actually released the following particularly offensive request aimed at the a the Jersey Shore cast. So I've been to A & F and the best words I can use to describe their stuff is painfully white & upper middle class. It's in everything, from the kids who work there who seem hand picked to have a very Angelo all American look to the partially nude hairless pictures of very northern European models in all the ads, on the bags and on the walls of the place. I've never been a fan of the whole preppie thing but whatever, sometimes my kids would ask for something and sometimes I'd get it.

SO I used to be a kid who would flock to the Jersey Shore during the summers and the one thing most kids there DID NOT have in common was being Northern European upper middle class... THOSE kids did the Hamptons.

So imagine my surprise while I was getting ready to take the kids shopping for back to school stuff today,(we start 8/29) and just happened to sit down to look at the news to and realized we were all uninvited to buy or even wear their stuff. Nice, I guess I won't trouble them with my money then. As I recall American Eagle is in the same mall. :snooty:

What does "painfully white" mean? Your post lacks logic.

Oh Geez Louise! It has absolutely nothing to do with how white they are or aren't:rolleyes: and everything to do with their disgusting, sleezy, deplorable behavior.

In this case, Jersey Shore people have been judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin (except by you).

I think you are being racist to believe that there are no black people in the Hamptons or white people in the ghetto. You've attached you own preconcieved notions as to what is proper clothing for people of different ethnicities.

There are african americans who like to wear A & F and there are whites who dont too. Rich or poor, gay or straight. Doesn't matter. People have fashion likes or dislikes and they have nothing to do with race.

They may have a bearing on culture, but culture is environmental, not biological.

I am not sure how you connect those dots, but feel free to shop elsewhere.

Well, that's pretty standard for A&F. They dream up some stunt to get themselves headlines a couple times a year.

Nice ideas being expressed here, their stock took a hit so I guess I'm not the only one who has a problem with it

:thumbsup2

DD12 loves A&F and loves the Jersey Shore. I wonder what she'll say when she sees this. :laughing:

I think it's a publicity stunt. A lot of people consider Jersey Shore show behaviour kind of trashy so an offer to pay them not to wear the clothes is bound to get attention. The problem I seem is that most of the people that buy A & F are likely to be fans of the show. I think the JS cast will react by making a few humorous remarks about it and letting it roll of their shoulders. I don't see this as a race thing. I'm actually suprised it was mentioned because I thought most Italians were traditionally white/caucasian :confused3 (I know people of all races live in all countries nowadays and I'm sure there are Black/Asian/every race Italian by now though)

Jersey Shore embarrasses Italians
::yes::

Honestly, I took it too mean that they don't want people thinking A & F endorses those so-called celebrities. The few times I've seen them on TV, I've found them to be extremely annoying and offensive in their speech and actions. I wouldn't want to be associated with them either.
::yes::

I agree with most of previous posters. Trashy show promoting a trashy lifestyle, I wouldn't want my products associated with it, either. But I do see the irony wrt A&F's raunchy advertising.

huh, I'm very confused about how race plays a part in this at all. :confused3

BTW I grew up in the Hamptons and go out there all the time to visit my parents - there are black people, Hispanic people, Asian people, mix race people pretty much everyone there. So I don't know where you are getting your information about the Hamptons but its wrong.
