I guess the cast of Jersey Shore isn't white enough for A & F

I think it's pretty funny that most of you characterize the JS cast as obnoxious, disgusting, offensive, etc.
The fact of the matter is that they aren't much different than college students. They are just on TV. But of course, "your" college age student doesn't act like that....well...not around you anyway.

Oh yes they are much different. There's a big difference between crazy college partying and with living that trashy lifestyle 24/7. College craziness doesn't define college kids, because they have to be students too or else get the boot right out of school. The Jersey Shore peeps define their lives by their sleeze.

Except most of them aren't "college age."

So I've been to A & F and the best words I can use to describe their stuff is painfully white & upper middle class.

Imagine if someone called a type of clothing "painfully black." Wow. Lovely post.

So imagine my surprise while I was getting ready to take the kids shopping for back to school stuff today,(we start 8/29) and just happened to sit down to look at the news to and realized we were all uninvited to buy or even wear their stuff. Nice, I guess I won't trouble them with my money then. As I recall American Eagle is in the same mall. :snooty:

What on Earth are you talking about?

I freely admit it's been 14 years since I was a college student, but I don't remember the majority of them acting like the cast of Jersey Shore. And the few that did, I chose not to associate with.

It's pretty well documented that college students engage in heavy drinking.
It's also pretty well known too that they have sex.

So what is it they do that is so horrible to you people? Drink? Have sex? Go to Clubs?

Except most of them aren't "college age."

Neither are most people who engage in drinking, sex, or club going.

LOL, a company with a history of raunchy advertising, racism, and discrimination is worried that some "offensive" reality TV characters are wearing their clothing?? Give me a break. If they truly were concerned, why wouldn't they PRIVATELY make the offer to the cast? They are just trying to drum up some controvery....you have to give their marketing department credit!

Ditto...;)

It is just a marketing ploy.

Abercrombie & Fitch (I think they own Hollister too) has actually released the following particularly offensive request aimed at the a the Jersey Shore cast. So I've been to A & F and the best words I can use to describe their stuff is painfully white & upper middle class. It's in everything, from the kids who work there who seem hand picked to have a very Angelo all American look to the partially nude hairless pictures of very northern European models in all the ads, on the bags and on the walls of the place. I've never been a fan of the whole preppie thing but whatever, sometimes my kids would ask for something and sometimes I'd get it.

SO I used to be a kid who would flock to the Jersey Shore during the summers and the one thing most kids there DID NOT have in common was being Northern European upper middle class... THOSE kids did the Hamptons.

Give me a break. Exaggerate much?

The cast of Jersey Shore is trash. A&F doesn't want to be associated with such trash. If you think you are in the same category as the Jersey Shore cast and are not welcome to buy their stuff, then you may want to reconsider your image.

As someone who grew up in NJ and going to the shore, I personally don't want to be associated with them either.

Nice ideas being expressed here, their stock took a hit so I guess I'm not the only one who has a problem with it

:lmao:Did you read the economic reasons why the stock took a hit? It has nothing to do with Jersey Shore. :lmao:

But what more likely moved the stock was a retreat from a recent run-up after the company reported earnings that beat analysts' expectations, and gave tepid comments about its outlook.

Abercrombie & Fitch reported a sales increase of 23% in the quarter ended July 30, to $917 million. Even more dramatically, it reported a 64% surge in net profit to $32 million, or earnings of 35 cents per share.

That's significantly more than the 27 cents forecast by John D. Morris, senior retail analyst for BMO Capital Markets.

Morris said Wednesday's sell-off was due largely to management's guarded comments with analysts, especially coming after recent stock gains.

Good for A&F for not wanting to be associated with trash like the Jersey Shore cast.

It is people like the OP that cause real and very true, legitimate claims of racism, fall on deaf ears. People get tired of hearing the crap and won't pay attention to the real issue of racism. Kind of like the little boy that cried wolf too many times.

yep

And I guess A&F didn't mind the cast's trashy behavior when they were selling these shirts:

I'm not sure what I find more humorous, that A&F claims the Jershey Short cast is causing "distress" for the stores customers or those that think A&F is actually upset that the cast of this incredibly popular show is wearing their clothes and giving them free advertising.

I'm trying to figure out which Jersey Shore cast member she is. What's your guess?

I think she is really a he, and its Pauly D. It can't be Snooki, she's not really Italian

Ethnocentricity is not only about race, its about prejudging anyone who is different in any way shape or form. While race is one form it is not the ONLY form of prejudice.... talk about only wanting to see what you want to see.

PS- its not my job or my intent to make people see things they don't want to see. That's why the world is still the way it is, I'd like to think people can change but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm just glad their stock took a header, say what you want about how it doesn't matter but obviously it does, the facts don't lie & the fact is their stock took a hit.

Like saying something is "painfully white?" So for instance if I said JS is painfully Italian that would be offensive, correct?

FTR that was an example, I would never say or think something like that.

Didn't you title the thread 'I guess the cast of Jersey shore isn't white enough"? So if its isn't about race and its about them being different, why title your thread the way you did? What shape and form are you talking about?

All the while ignoring the reasons WHY it took a hit. :lmao:

The fact is their stock took a hit... but not for the reasons you seem to think. Instead of looking at the facts, you are simply making up your own.

The reason people don't see what you see is because you are being ridiculous and not saying anything that is true. People don't not like them because of their ethnicity... people don't like them because they are moronic trash.

I never heard of painfully white before. To the best of my knowledge I have been white for over 40 years and not once found it painful. Am I doing it wrong? Is there something I wasn't told when I was born?

I have heard people being called painfully ignorant....

I have heard people being called painfully obtuse.....

I even have heard of people being called painfully tone deaf to feelings of others...

Never heard that about skin color though and one would think if you called a someone of color, painfully black, that it might make for a painful experience afterwards.
