What an outstanding feeling :cool1: to return from an amazing weekend at an historical re-enactment in Quebec City (defending the city from the rebellious American invaders) to find that Southwest had their fares posted and available through January -- and with Internet Specials of $59 each way available on BUF-MCO return. I'm approximating our CDN equivalent cost at $193.73 return :thewave:-- quite the deal when the fees and taxes on Air Canada flights on the same days and about the same time come to $147.43 CDN. :scared1:

Excellent. I got the same fare for 5 of us. It's sure is a huge savings.

We are flying in Sept 4 of us for just under $780.00 Canadian. Just for the heck of it I checked with Air Canada last night for approx the same flight times it was over $1972.00 Canadian. I can not believe the difference, thanks to the advice on these boards I have saved alot of money.

I also got a pretty good deal at the Holiday Inn Express across the street from the Airport for $89.00 for a park and fly rate so we can leave our vehicle at the hotel for the 10 days we are gone for no additional cost.

And I did have a ressie through Alamo for a compact for $249.00 but I got a better price with Dollar last night of $199.00.

Now if I can just win the 649 to pay for the whole thing that would be great......lol

Enjoy!!!

There are times when I figure that I'm actually making money on this trip -- not just saving money. Figure the cost of flying out of YYZ (or any Canadian airport for that matter) and SWA (or any other American airline out of BUF, for that matter) looks like a bargain to me. Compare the cost of airport parking at YYZ (even long term GTAA parking or Park 'N Fly) with staying at the HI Express, and there really is no comparison. Stay the night and get parking? Great stuff, I say. How can we afford to stay home?:confused3

Just wanted to chime in. DH and I love Southwest. If your interested in flying to other US destinations keep them in mind.

We are going to Maui via LA in October and our tickets were $318 from Buffalo. AC was $466/person and coming home we would have had to go through Vancouver.

Savings of $148/person or almost $300 total will more than pay for our day at DL.

I'm right there with your philosophy, Royal Canadian! With $540.80 USD for 4 of us to fly to MCO, free parking at HI Express, and annual passes that still haven't expired, all I need to wait for now is some AP hotel rates. I'd have to be feeble-minded to stay home, right? :D

Awesome fare! Good for you, I'm glad you got it!

Just to make you feel even better, I paid $600 EACH for 4 of us to fly on AC, Thanksgiving weekend. What was I thinking?

I don't even want to start adding up airfares that I used to pay from YYZ into US airports. Admittedly, many of them included tickets "Free" with Aeroplan points, Air Miles, or old Canadian Plus points (those were the days!) -- but sometimes the taxes and fees paid on those points flights came rather close to SW airfares. BUF is about 150km from home -- the only clincher is the bridge. I crossed into NY a couple of weeks ago -- Queenston-Lewiston was a parking lot; Rainbow Bridge at high noon on a Saturday was 15-20 minutes.

I never thought about flying out of Buffalo. I usually fly out of Detroit. Even with Robert Q, it was way cheaper than flying out of Toronto. I live in London. Have to check it out for my trip next year.

dsneygirl-who are you flying with to Maui? Are you going Southwest to LA and then connecting to Aloha or Hawaiian Airlines? Just curious as I have also looked at this route but have never flown to Hawaii out of Buffalo. I like the idea of stopping in La for a break for a few days as that Hawaii flight kills us!!!

That's exactly what we are doing. We did the same thing in 2002 for our honeymoon.

SW to LA. Staying over night then on United to Maui the next morning. But you could use Aloha, AA whatever. Then when we come back another 2 days in LA.:sunny:

We booked our January flights on SWA yesterday. No more of the $135/return deals, but we got everything for $175 pp - total came to $700 US for the 4 of us. We have NEVER flown to Florida... we actually quite like the drive, and the fact that I can take everything but the kitchen sink with us  But we got looking at the prices, comparing them with the price of gas, wear and tear on the van, the hotel each way, and the fact that being cramped up driving for 2 solid days just before the Disney Half Marathon is not necessarily a good thing, so we decided to try flying this time.

The kids are :Pinkbounc :bounce: LOL

We're keeping our fingers crossed for "A" boarding passes so that we can sit somewhat together. I cannot imagine that the attendants wouldn't try to make sure that one parent is sitting with each child (they're 4 and 7). And if they don't, I'll just put my son next to the grumpiest looking person on the plane ... they'll change seats with me before they even go through the emergency directions :teeth:

Someone tell me it'll all be A-OK, and that the Buffalo airport won't be snowed in on Jan 6th

Hi Maryliz,

When we went SWA last year, families with children boarded first so there was no problem getting seats together (my kids were 4 and 6).

I don't remember what the age cut off was for getting in the pre-boarding (although I remember thinking we just squeezed in) but I'm hoping we still qualify next trip when our youngest is 5.

We had a great experience with SWA!

That is what we found with SWA too, families with kids got boarding preferance and it was great because anyone who didn't want to sit next to kids could choose not to.We were on a plane that was half full though! My DH swears there is more leg room on SWA too, he is quite tall and a fairly good judge of this. I think you did great with your prices...try to find them in January, hahaha, you will be so glad you booked now!:sunny:

Thanks for the info. My DH is quite tall so he'll be happy to hear about the leg-room. My DS will still only be 4 when we go, so I'm sure we should get the pre-boarding. And really, how full is that plane gonna be on Jan 6th at 7:30 AM ??? Aren't most people just getting back from their trips :p

Now I just need to get my passes

My friends just got back from WDW using SWA out of Buffalo and loved it. Spirit Air out of Detroit is another option.

Personally I fly Northwest since I'm an airmiles hog, but these other airlines are awesome!

They did have the $59 special when I last looked but now it is up to $79. I can't believe I missed it and yet I can – I always seond guess our dates and then – gone! Will they put it back at all or is that it? How often do they have these sales?

I was also wondering if the fares will drop again. My uncle's company just voted to end their strike so they are going. Now that we missed the $59 fares I am wondering if that's it.

We could get Detroit with Spirit Air for $51 each way and we have family in Windsor for overnight but that really is a pain!

What other airline out of Buffalo could we try or will Southwest be the best?

Air Tran flies from Buffalo and they have a seat sale NOW.(end thrus) The only problem is it's not direct, stop over in Atlanta -1hr.

Tracey- sept 27-oct9 $69.00 each way plus tax

Air Tran Tickets

BTW- always check & recheck AirTran their prices can change every few hours::yes:: :earseek:
