I got laid off, but HEY I went to Disney!!! Update 10/27

:rotfl: omg those pictures of Mark at Ohana remind me of something Chris would totally do/has done at disney when he was sick of getting his picture taken.

Sorry your meal wasn't what you remembered from last year but glad at least some of it was good. I want some "slap yo mama good" desert!! :rotfl2: love your descriptions of food girl. You crack me up!!

That dessert is awesome! I never would have guessed that I would eat bread pudding. :goodvibes

Slap yo momma, love it:rotfl2:

Bummer it was not up to par, but at least your dessert was good:goodvibes

I think it was the dinner/waitress combo that took away from the whole experience. If the waitress would have been better, and our drinks wouldn't have been empty, maybe we wouldn't have noticed how dry some of the meat was. Maybe if the food was better, we wouldn't have noticed how crabby our waitress was. :confused3 Ah - well - we'll go back. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us! I don't read too many but yours just drew me in. You have a very nice writing style, I've really enjoyed it. Maybe the Pool of Poop culprit knew of the cheap TP at Pop so he/she decided to take care of business during pool time.

Thanks Photobob. Ya know what - I never really thought of it from that perspective.:lmao:

Epcot update was very touching :thumbsup2

Bummer Ohana's wasn't as good as it could/should have been :sad2: A server has such influence over how you view your meal, sorry yours wasn't up to the job.

Slap yo mama good :lmao:

Thanks. I'm hoping the next time we visit, things will be back to par.:thumbsup2

We stood in a 60 minute long line just so we could fit in another ride on TSM. It is crazy the things we will do to get on that ride. :rotfl:

Your Dopey drawing is great. :thumbsup2

Loved your Halloween Party Pics! You did a GREAT job! I ended up deleting most of mine. And even though I saw the parade twice, I was unable to get a decent pic of the Headless Horesman.

The food at the GF Cafe looked sooooo good! I may have to check that out the next time I go!

Good thing you stood in line for Toy Story. There sooo much to see in line, that it makes it worth the wait!

Looking forward to more! :surfweb:

That ride is so much fun. Seriously, I don't think we would have accomplished anything else at HS if the line was short, cause we would have been on a continuous loop of TSM.

Has anyone gotten a good pick of the Headless Horseman? I would love to see one. Maybe I will do some searching.

Whoever came up with the theming for the TSM queue is a genious.

Just in case anyone is looking for an update, it's going to be a few days.

Mamaw's house was broken into, and things are upended right now. I should have this thing back on track by Monday.

Thanks to anyone who is reading/posting.

LOVING :lovestruc your report. Awesome everything.

Glad that you cheered up and went on your vacation! It will re-charge you for whatever else is coming your way!

I am so sorry about your grandfather...I lost mine a few years ago and it sounds like we had the same type of relationship with our papas....my grandmother lives down the street from me (with my aunt) and she is 90 years old and going strong and loves that I bring her back stuff from WDW since she cannot go herself.

When I booked our POP ressie for Jan I called the ressie line and the CM said "Any particular resort?" And I said yeah the POP....she said the Disney Pop Century Resort? That is too funny!

Love Flippers Pizza...for many years we stayed offsite and ate dinner at Flippers many many times....it is amazing!

That burger at GFC is killing me.....I want to eat that right now! My Lean Cuisine for lunch is not cutting it after seeing a pic of that burger.

I thought I was the only one to bring TP from home...Charmin all the way!

Keep it coming, I am living through you and counting the hours until it is my time to post! :dance3:

Great update. So I have been reading along and I just now realized that we were at DHS on the exact same day. :lmao: So I'm wondering....were you by chance at LeCellier on Saturday the 20th for lunch? You and your DH look so familiar and it dawned on me that you look a lot like the couple that sat next to us there that day.

Hopefully you don't think I'm nuts but I just HAD to ask!

Sorry to hear that :sad2: Hope everyone is allright

Thanks! Yes, everyone is okay...it happened while she was at church Wednesday morning. I can't believe this happened to her.

Great updates! I'm enjoying them!

Thanks!

WOW - I think we just might be related. :rotfl:

Hi there! No, that wasn't us. We ate at LeCellier on the 13th, and never made it back.

SIDE NOTE!!!! - Update coming tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

After the block party bash, we headed back to the Pop and took it easy for about an hour or so, and then took off for the Magic Kingdom. It was Spectro night, and I was very excited to get to experience the double header that Stacy never really talks about. Forget Space and Splash, the Yeti and the Yak, and Mission and Soarin’ – if you can catch Spectro and Wishes on the same night – it’s a good night.:thumbsup2

The plan was to hit a couple of rides until it got dark, then find us a prime viewing spot and hunker down for Spectro. After Spectro, we would move towards the hub and try to snag our usual fireworks viewing spot. As soon as the fireworks were over, we were supposed to head to the Pop for a Dis meet. We were planning to show up fashionably late.

So – we managed to hop on a couple of rides. I want to say it was Pirates and Haunted Mansion – then we made our way to Frontier Land for the parade. It wasn’t long before the crap carts made their way onto the streets.

101_0147.jpg

We heard a collective gasp from all of the parents who discovered the price of the Mickey Mouse spinny light up toy their kid couldn’t live without :scared: , that is surely in the bottom of their toy box by now – never to be seen again.

It wasn’t long before the lights were dimmed and the music started.

101_0148.jpg

101_0160.jpg

I just love this parade. However, I think I will try to catch it towards the front of the park from now on. Unlike most parades, which start in Frontier Land and move towards the hub, Spectro starts by the hub and moves backwards. By the time it got to us, I think the performers were a little tired.

As soon as the parade cleared, we started to move towards the front of the park to grab a spot for Wishes. This is the moment we discovered exactly how crowded the Magic Kingdom was that night. :crowded: WOW. We were packed in like sardines – moving at a snail’s pace – being herded like cattle.

I have to imagine that scenes like that give much needed comedic relief to the cast members working at the MK. (Much like moving unsuspecting parent’s strollers to an undisclosed location.) To add to that comedic relief, I decided to let out a big enthusiastic “Moooooooo” as we moved towards Adventure Land.:rolleyes1

When we were crossing the bridge from Adventure Land to the hub, I saw something that I really need someone to help me understand. There was a large group of people (maybe 15) who decided to sit on the bridge – blocking at least half of it – causing traffic to bottleneck at that point. Not only were they sitting, but the adults seemed to be on the inside of the group, while the children were on the outside closest to the traffic. This is what really gets me….they chose to sit with their hands resting on the ground behind them for maximum comfort, and as a result increased the amount of space they were taking up. Not only is this dangerous because their hands might get stepped on, but on a hot Florida night with tired adults, this is fighting material. I just knew someone was going to get stepped on and there was going to be an all out Daddy war.

After getting through the bottleneck, I was ready to find the closest spot, and stand. It was so crowded cast members were telling people that the hub area was closed, and to make their way down main street. I have NEVER seen that before. We were able to sneak around to the right side of the hub and grab a small spot there next to a nice couple from Bristol, TN.

I tried to snap some pics using the fireworks setting on my camera. Finally, I came to this conclusion: I am not, nor will I ever be, a photographer.

101_0180.jpg

101_0181.jpg

Once the fireworks concluded, we smiled and waved at the happy masses that made a mad rush for the exit. There was NO WAY I was running with the bulls again. We decided to stand back and let the crowds thin a little bit before even attempting to leave. So did our new friends from TN.

They were down for a week, and while it wasn’t their first trip, we could tell they were Disney noobs. So that’s how our conversation started….all about Disney. However, the conversation turned took on a life of its own as it progressed to Dollywood, gas prices, and muscle cars. :headache: Soon, we found ourselves standing on an almost empty main street.

We said goodbye to our new friends, and headed towards the exit. To the right, the line for the monorail was still backed up three quarters of the way down the ramp, so we headed towards the ferry boat. As we walked up, a boat was just pulling away from the launch that was so full it was busting at the seams.

When we entered the launch queue, I looked at my watch and let out a little scream. It was 10:00. This scenario actually posed two problems. #1 – my Dis friends. Will any of them still be there? OMG!?!?!?!? #2 – On the way in, we were told that the last tram would leave for the parking lot at 10:30. We were going to be pushing it.

The ferry returned soon enough and we boarded about 10:10. I was trying my best to mentally will the boat to move. I DID NOT want to have to walk from the TTC drop off point to our car parked in no mans land. All of a sudden, the freakin’ water parade shows up out of nowhere. Normally, I would have been thrilled to see this, but I was kind of in a hurry so I let out a little grumble. And of course, took pictures.

101_0185.jpg

Karma, being the butterfly that she is, decided to repay me for my grumpiness by dispatching some type of bug to bite me on my rear. Now, I have no idea what bit me, but the rash that was in place by the time I got to the hotel looked very similar to poison ivy and was very, very itchy.

FINALLY, we were on the move – and as we pulled away, they actually turned off the lights – we were on the very last boat of the night. We got to the loading zone at exactly 10:30, and I simply could not believe the number of people waiting to board. I just knew we were going to have to ride the hush puppy highway to our car. We picked the shortest queue and a tram pulled up, and filled up very quickly.:headache: I didn’t hear the attendant announce anything about them being the last tram, so I held on to hope. Soon, another tram came roaring around the corner, followed closely by another, and another. Good ol’ Disney wasn’t going to make anyone walk after all.

Once in the car, Mark put the petal to the metal as we zoomed off towards Pop. In the car, we both realized we were starving, as we hadn’t eaten since lunch. When we arrived at Pop, we headed straight for the food court to pick up some grub. Some of the stations were already closed, but we were able to pick up a couple of pizzas. Mark took the tray and headed towards the room, and I went towards the pool in search of any remaining Disers.

As I entered the pool area, I spotted an umbrella with glowsticks hanging from it, and I knew immediately where to go. I walked up to the people sitting there, and just kind of smiled for a minute. Beans started talking first, “are you….” And then Cheri piped up with “…that sure is!” and it was all hugs and smiles from that point forward. I just love meeting new people when it feels like you’ve known them forever.

I missed a couple other visitors, but I was so glad to meet Beana and Cheri. I really wanted to stay longer, but I was so hungry and tired, plus my rear was really itchy from the bug bite. We snapped a couple of pics, and called it a night.

101_0187.jpg

To Cheri and Beans: Thank you so much for waiting on me, and I’m sorry to make you wait. It was so awesome meeting you guys, and I hope to have the opportunity to see you again in the future.

Hey girl! I'm finally making my way back over to your TR. Read about your day at MGM ( I can't bring myself to call it DHS) and it looks like you had fun! I :lmao: at the story about AA!! That must have been hystarical!!! I probably would have been crying too. hahahahaha!! YOur Dopy drawing is fantastic. And I agree, Mark's is a bit un nerving :scared1:

Oh I"m so glad to read that you got the ribs at Sci Fi. I LOVE them!! They are superb!!! Have you ever had Martia's Martian there though?? If not you MUST try it next time!

I've never watched the parade at MGM either so now I must take time out the next time I'm there just based on your review to check it out.

Oh yeah, and I too loved the line que for TSM and took tons of pictures in line. :thumbsup2 Glad you finally beat Mark. My score seemed to get worse each time I rode it.

I also wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about the break in at your grandmothers place. Is she okay?? Did the cops catch the guys??

awesome update of your evening at MK. I love Spectro as well!! My favorite parade in all of WDW.

I hate the crowd after the fire works too. I don't blame y'all for waiting for them to clear out but sounds like it was still pretty crowded at the ferry and trams when you got to them :scared1: Sorry about your bug bite too. That sounds awful. Hopefully it was cleared up by the next day.

I'm so glad that you got to meet beana and Cheri!! Too bad everyone else had already left. Sounds like it was pretty sparce to begin with though. I hate that I couldn't be there! :headache: One of these days we will meet!

Did you know that in Zulu, that means “there comes a lion”? Me neither, I looked it up.

Am I the only one thinks about The Circle of Life when the Animal Kingdom entrance comes into sight? :confused3 Please tell me I’m not alone. Didn’t Disney use that song in the original advertisements for AK? Maybe that’s where it comes from.

Anywho – after a long night the night before, we decided to sleep in (surprise, surprise) and go to Animal Kingdom. We both like AK, but we just don’t LOVE AK. With the addition of Everest and Nemo the Musical it is becoming more and more appealing, but it just tends to be so freakin’ HOT! Maybe in the future, we will decide to dedicate more time to AK, but for now – it gets one day – and usually not even a full day.

101_0188.jpg

I do have to say that AK is probably the most beautiful and most well conceived park of any on Disney property today. I love the feeling of complete emersion I feel when I am in AK, but I hate the narrow pathways that sometimes make you feel just a little claustrophobic.:scared:

It was a little crowded, but not too bad.

101_0189.jpg

First things first, we headed straight for Everest. Mark won’t ride this ride anymore – he says the backwards part made him a little motion sick the last time he rode, so he waits for me. I decided to check out the single rider line this time, and it had a posted wait of only 10 minutes. In the line, I met a young lady that was over from New Zealand, who used to work for Disney and was back in the states to visit her friends and do a little traveling across the country. It was going to be her first ride on Everest and she was a ball of nerves and excitement. In no time, I was on the ride and enjoyed it as usual. When I exited the queue, I saw the young lady again and asked her about her ride experience. Let me just say this….if she wouldn’t have had ears, she would have been smiling in circles. :upsidedow

Next, we headed to Kali River Rapids. We didn’t get a chance to ride this last year because by the time we got to it, the wait was 45 minutes, and let’s face it – Kali is no Toy Story Mania. ;) This day we were able to walk on in under 10 minutes and we were able to ride with a family of 4 and a single rider. We absolutely love watching people’s expressions as they exit this ride. When the adults are soaked, they tend to look a little peeved at their run of bad luck. :headache: When the kids are soaked, they have this overwhelming expression of pride and joy – just knowing that God smiled on them that day. I decided if I was the one chosen to be soaked that day, I was going to take it like a kid. Smile, laugh, exude pride and generally enjoy my experience.:thumbsup2

As soon as we boarded our raft, we all started taking bets on who was going to get soaked. Mark and I both picked the two little boys in the family, and of course the boys picked their mom. In the end, it was the single rider who got absolutely soaked. I don’t think she could have been any wetter if she just hopped out of the raft and went for a swim in the rapids. And you know what – she took it like a kid. She was laughing and smiling the whole time – even as she had to ring out her dress. She laughed even harder as her husband/boyfriend doused her with water from one of the squirting elephants towards the end of the ride – thus negating her attempts to get rid of some of the water on her clothes. It was great!:thumbsup2

After exiting the queue, we just kind of wandered around aimlessly until we came upon the Flights of Wonder show. I love this show. It’s so cute, and funny – plus the birds are pretty awesome. I took quite a few pictures, but I will share only one.

101_0192.jpg

What a beautiful bird.:lovestruc

Soon, we were both pretty hungry – so it was time to find something good to eat. I knew exactly where we were going. Flame Tree BBQ. Now – we had tried FT in the past, and really didn’t care for it, but a lot of my Dis Buddies love it, so I was ready to give it another chance. We both got the rib meal.

101_0193.jpg

I have to say it was better than I remembered, but I still don’t care for it. I much prefer the ribs at Sci Fi. Plus, I picked up a wicked case of indigestion complements of those ribs.

After lunch, it was time for my one and only MUST do at AK. The Lion King. I love the movie, love the music, and love this show. Pictures can’t even do it justice, but I will throw in a couple.

101_0201.jpg

101_0207.jpg

This is not just a show, it’s an experience – and I could watch it over and over and over.

When LK was over, we left the park to get some down time at the hotel. That night we went to Epcot and messed around for a little while, but didn’t even stay to watch Illuminations.

We did, however, pick up dinner at the Mexican CS place.

101_0212.jpg

YUM. We learned this trip that you should eat your churos first. Once they get cold, they get hard and kind of stale.

Once we got to the Pop, we took a quick little dip in the pool, and I am happy to report that there was no unexpected cleanings needed.:thumbsup2

Unnerving - great description. I never know what that man is going to do.

I absolutely love the ribs at Sci Fi, but I have never had Martia's Martian. It's on the list for next time!:thumbsup2

The BPB is so cute. It's not a normal parade, as it kind of stops, but it is so much fun.

LOL @ your scores getting worse. Ours were actually getting a little better each time, but we are so darn competitive it's dangerous.

I also wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about the break in at your grandmothers place. Is she okay?? Did the cops catch the guys??

No, the cops haven't caught them yet - but thanks for asking. In Columbus only 27% of burglaries are solved, so I am not holding on to much hope. Some of the stuff they took just can't be replaced, like my grandfather's war medals, but I am thankful that they did it while Mamaw wasn't home, and she wasn't physically hurt.

Believe it or not, the bite is just now clearing up. It went from bad to worse and I thought I was going to have to go to the Dr.

Beans and Cheri were so cute, and so fun to meet. I am sure we will get our chance one day! :thumbsup2

:goodvibes I just wanted to say that I have so enjoyed reading your trip report. I too was laid off last month (title company) and that was my second job. I was also laid off this time last year from a real estate attorneys office so I can totally relate to everything you were saying.
I am so glad that you were able to take your trip anyway. Lucky you.
:wizard:
Being unable to take vacation 2 years in a row is really hard to deal with especially when you have to tell 5 children who have been waiting to go back since 2005(our first and only trip)
I am getting so much joy just looking at your pictures and hearing you tell of your adventures.
Thank you for taking the time. I have really appreciated it.:lovestruc

Let me just say this….if she wouldn’t have had ears, she would have been smiling in circles.

That is the greatest saying I've ever heard! :worship:

Oh man. That is awful. Hope she is alright

We had that happen to us 3 years ago and it is the most awful feeling knowing someone was in our house. Just thankful we were not home:goodvibes

Catching up and just read the 14th update

Glad you beat mark on TSM...I stunk at it....my own 4 yr old beat me:rotfl2:

Great you had a good meal at Sci Fi:thumbsup2

too funny about the squeakers:rotfl2:

Great Dopey:thumbsup2
