I got laid off, but HEY I went to Disney!!! Update 10/27

You took great pics of the fireworks. Loved them:thumbsup2

Glad you did not get stranded and got a tram. I am sure they would have never let anyone wait, not when there were crowds and crowds of people:goodvibes

Cute shot of you, Cheri and Beana:goodvibes

Glad you had a nice day at AK:goodvibes

Girl, you make me want to give AK another shot. Chris and I have only been to that park once and it was only for a couple of hours. I got claustrophobic in those narrow walk ways and was getting grumpy so we took off to MK for lunch at LTT. That was last year. I SO want to ride Everest! I will have to ride single rider as well since Chris will not get on those types of rides. I loved your description of the girl getting off from her first ride on it. You have such a way with words :goodvibes

That is hilarious that the single rider was the one to get soaked on Kali! I'm always afraid to ride rides like that because I feel like I'm the one that will most likely get soaked. The last two times I rode Splash Mountain I got soaked and on that ride you have more odds that you won't get wet at all than getting soaked....and I manage to get soaked :confused3

The ribs you had for lunch look delish! That's a bummer that they gave you indigestion though.

Oh God I also need to see the AK and Nemo show. I saw them both featured on the Samantha Brown special and I want to see them so badly. I guess now there's 3 things that I need to go back to AK for now.

Another great update! :thumbsup2

Unnerving - great description. I never know what that man is going to do.

I absolutely love the ribs at Sci Fi, but I have never had Martia's Martian. It's on the list for next time!:thumbsup2

The BPB is so cute. It's not a normal parade, as it kind of stops, but it is so much fun.

LOL @ your scores getting worse. Ours were actually getting a little better each time, but we are so darn competitive it's dangerous.

No, the cops haven't caught them yet - but thanks for asking. In Columbus only 27% of burglaries are solved, so I am not holding on to much hope. Some of the stuff they took just can't be replaced, like my grandfather's war medals, but I am thankful that they did it while Mamaw wasn't home, and she wasn't physically hurt.

Believe it or not, the bite is just now clearing up. It went from bad to worse and I thought I was going to have to go to the Dr.

Beans and Cheri were so cute, and so fun to meet. I am sure we will get our chance one day! :thumbsup2

 thanks. Yeah, I never know what Chris is going to do either. We drew Tinkerbell while at the AA and Chris' turned out looking evil.

Oh girl you are missing out on the Martia's Martian! You have GOT to get one next time. I got 2 of my friends hooked on them now. hehe :thumbsup2

Yeah, I'm not very good at games like that but I was having fun. Chris on the other had had a stratagy to do better the 2nd time we rode it. He's very competitive. Not sure why 'cause he knows that even when I compete with him he still wins.

That totally sucks that those robbers took precious things that cannot be replaced from your grandmother. But you are right, the good thing is that she wasn't home when it happened so she didn't get physically injured. Never know, those crooks could have been armed. :scared:

Wow! It's just NOW clearing up!? I wonder what in the world bit you!! Freakin Florida bugs are so weird. Glad it didn't get infected or anything and force you to go to the Dr.

Yes, we will get our chance.

btw, how's the job hunt going??

:goodvibes I just wanted to say that I have so enjoyed reading your trip report. I too was laid off last month (title company) and that was my second job. I was also laid off this time last year from a real estate attorneys office so I can totally relate to everything you were saying.
I am so glad that you were able to take your trip anyway. Lucky you.
:wizard:
Being unable to take vacation 2 years in a row is really hard to deal with especially when you have to tell 5 children who have been waiting to go back since 2005(our first and only trip)
I am getting so much joy just looking at your pictures and hearing you tell of your adventures.
Thank you for taking the time. I have really appreciated it.:lovestruc

  I hope you guys get to take a vacation real soon. And when you go - I hope it's supercalafragalisticexpialidocious.

That is the greatest saying I've ever heard! :worship:

:goodvibes TY

Oh man. That is awful. Hope she is alright

We had that happen to us 3 years ago and it is the most awful feeling knowing someone was in our house. Just thankful we were not home:goodvibes

Yeah, she's having issues with that right now. She just can't get comfortable in her own house. I've tried to get her to come live with us, but she won't - and I've offered to come stay with her and she won't let me do that either. I am fairly certain that this event is going to make her sell the house and move into a little apartment, which is what I've wanted her to do for a while, but I didn't want it to happen like this.:sad2:

Catching up and just read the 14th update

Glad you beat mark on TSM...I stunk at it....my own 4 yr old beat me:rotfl2:

Great you had a good meal at Sci Fi:thumbsup2

too funny about the squeakers:rotfl2:

Great Dopey:thumbsup2

AK is definitely worth another shot. We both like it, but it just always seems to be so crowded, and so HOT! Nemo is so cool. I wouldn't put it on the same level as the Lion King, but I think that's just a matter of I like the music more in LK than in Nemo. The performers in Nemo are so so so talented - well in both shows really. We tried to get into Nemo this time, but the shows fill up so quickly that you have to be in line well ahead of showtime and we just didn't make it.

 thanks. Yeah, I never know what Chris is going to do either. We drew Tinkerbell while at the AA and Chris' turned out looking evil.

I wish I knew what bit me too - so I could stay the heck away from it next time! :rotfl: Whatever it was was NASTY. We ended up going to CVS to pick up some cream to get the inflamation to calm down, but it was so itchy I couldn't stop clawing. I'm sure that made for some interesting viewing for the tourists.

The job hunt is going. I guess that's really all I can say about that. I've put in my application in a few places, but I'm not actively pounding the pavement. My end date has actually been extended through December, so I've got a little time, and unless something big comes up - I would like to take advantage of the severance benefits here. We'll see I guess.

Bummer that you didn't get to make Nemo this time. Maybe next time. The performers in both seemed amazing just from the special I saw on TV.

For real! I can only imagine how awful it was to walk around with an itchy bum. Sweating on top of that probably didn't help the situation at all either.

That's great that they extended your time there! I hear you on wanting to take advantage of the severance benefits. Get a little time off and hopefully find something better than what you have now. :thumbsup2

When booking this trip, I actually took special care to schedule a “down day.” I’ve read so many trip reports where families enjoy a day with no parks, just maxin’ and relaxin’ by the pool – I wanted to give it a try. :3dglasses This decision nearly killed me!:headache:

I tried so, so very hard to fill this void in my vacation. I tried to talk Mark into SeaWorld. I love SeaWorld, Mark doesn’t, so it was a no-go. Then I tried to talk him in to Universal. We haven’t been since 2001, and I was ready to give it another shot. I got vetoed.

In the end, I left the “down day” in place, and I’m glad I did.:thumbsup2

First things first, a trip to CVS to get some cream for the nastiness that had settled on my rear. Maybe and infestation of mutant bugs is Disney’s real Best Kept Secret? :confused3 I mean, really…it can’t be DVC anymore because they have told EVERYONE!

While we were out, we hit the outlet again, and then came back to the hotel for some lunch, rest, and maybe some pool time. For lunch, I had the nachos and a cookie:

101_0213-1.jpg

101_0215-1.jpg

The cookie wasn’t as good as the one from Pizza Planet, but it was okay.

Mark had pizza and a cinnamon roll that was pretty good!

101_0214-1.jpg

After lunch, we were ready for a nap, but our mousekeeper was still working….so we did another first. We went to Generation Gap Bridge and took a look around.

101_0216.jpg

101_0217.jpg

I’d seen video on YouTube of someone who was able to get to the Early Years side of the bridge, and I really wanted to go over there and be nosey. I guess they jumped the little gate and went for it that way, because the end of the bridge was blocked off. I was a little disappointed, but not really surprised. I'll save my first Disney Felony for another year.

We pretty much took it easy the rest of the afternoon until it was time for dinner. I was really excited to be trying Captain Jacks for the very first time. My first impression of this place had to be the fact that it smelled weird. It was like this funky mix of my Mamaw’s basement and The Country Bear Jambore. It was just strange.

We were given a great seat by the window, but the construction taking place at DTD prevented too much people watching.
101_0219.jpg

The restaurant was pretty loud, and we had a hard time communicating with our waitress. After practically shouting our orders at her, the food arrived.

101_0223.jpg

The twin lobster tails were pretty dang good. For dessert, Mark got the cheesecake and I got the chocolate raspberry cake.

My overall rating for this place is….EGH. :confused3 I’m glad we did it, but I don’t see us returning in the future – especially if we had to pay out of pocket.

On the way out, we stopped by Goofy’s Candy Company to pick up some snacks. This was another first for us, and man what a bargain this is!:thumbsup2

101_0226.jpg

We hung around DTD for a little while, just taking in the sights, before calling it an early night back at the POP.

Glad you got some down time, that is always nice:goodvibes

That sucks about the construciton at Capt Jacks

SO, what did you get at Goofy's Candy Co? WE never made it there on our trip. Have to hit that on our next trip:thumbsup2

The next morning I was feeling particularly sluggish. The mutant ninja bug bite on my rear kept me up a good bit of the night. :guilty:

It was an Epcot morning once again – mostly because of our lunch ressies at Tuto Italia. It seems that we spent more time at Epcot eating, than anything else in our trip. I guess Epcot is to eating, as the TSM queue is to picture taking.

I have to admit – I was really nervous about Tuto Italia. Don’t get me wrong, I like “Italian food” – but I like American Italian. You know….Olive Garden…Johnny Karino’s…stuff like that. I typically refer to those establishments as “Fitalian” – which is short for fake Italian. Now, I mean no offense to anyone when I make that statement, but I know that those restaurants cater to American taste buds. Tuto Italia – not so much.

In the months before our trip, I studied the menu super hard trying to figure out what exactly I was going to eat. Actually, I tried to focus on what Mark was going to eat since he is a little pickier than me. I was still undecided as we entered Epcot. Actually, we tried to get into Coral Reef, but they couldn’t tell me if I could have a seat until 11:30 – and that’s when our Tuto Italia reservations where. I am fairly certain that we could have gotten a seat, but I didn’t want to pass up a sure thing for a maybe. :snooty:

The first thing I noticed about Tuto Italia, like Captain Jacks, was the smell. Except Tuto did not smell like old basement :scared: , it smelled like bread baking. To me, there aren’t too many better smells than the smell of baking bread. YUM! I was instantly re-assured that we made the right decision by coming here.:cloud9:

Our waitress was so cute, and sweet, but I think she must have been new. She kind of struggled through the ordering process, and to top it off, her English wasn’t all that great, so we had a bit of a communication barrier. It really just added to our experience though, and we all three got a few laughs out of the situation.

I decided to go with the Lasagna and Mark got a Panini.

First things first – they brought out a nice basket of bread…and oil. No herbs…just oil.

101_0233-1.jpg

While we were eating our bread, our waitress comes to the table to inform Mark that they are out of paninis. No problem, he picked something else off of the menu. The waitress walks away and not 5 minutes later, the manager comes up to our table to inform us that they are not out of paninis after all. :confused3 Well, okay….Mark would rather have the panini then. Soon, the food arrived at the table:

The lasagna
101_0234-1.jpg

This was good, but very very filling. It looks small, but I think I only got about half of it down. It is stuffed with cheesy goodness and has a great tomato/basil taste.

The panini
101_0235-1.jpg

Mark really liked the sandwich, but didn’t really care for the salad that came with it.

Now, for the life of me, I cannot remember what our desserts were called – and I’m too lazy to look on All Ears:rolleyes1 , but here are the pictures:

Mine:
101_0238-1.jpg

Mine was great! I would order it again, no questions asked. The little puff pastries are filled with ice cream and smothered in warm chocolate sauce.

Marks:
101_0237-1.jpg

Mark liked his too, and said it tasted like egg nog – which he loves. Before ordering it, he asked the waitress to describe it – and she informed him it was made with the “red” of the egg. Last I checked, eggs really don’t have reds? After a few “huhs” and “whats”, we came to the conclusion that she was referring to the “yellow.” See what I mean about the communication barrier!:lmao:

When it was time for the check, the manager came to our table again to inform us that Mark’s meal had been comped due to the panini mixup. We tried to talk her out of it (first time ever trying to get out of a free meal), but she absolutely refused, and apologized up and down for an incident that we really didn’t think was that big of a deal. What was really odd is, they didn’t even bring the check that allows you to tip, just the final bill that you have to sign. Like they didn’t want our waitress to be tipped? We were having none of that – and made sure to leave an appropriate tip based on what the full bill would have been.:goodvibes

After lunch, we headed to Soarin’ to check the wait times. I think it was less than 30 minutes, so we hopped on. I love me some Patrick!

101_0241.jpg

Que Slingblade voice….”I like the way he talks, uhm hm.” I tried to sneak some illegal Soarin’ picks, but they give me motion sickness just looking at them, so I’m not going to torture anyone who may be reading this mess.

By then, I was ready to head back to the room. It was really hot, and getting really crowded and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to catch up with the sleep that eluded me the night before. :cloud9:

After my much needed nap, I felt tons better and was ready to conquer the world. Literally. :cool2: We decided to take advantage of EMH at Magic Kingdom.

Now – I don’t like to say any of my Disney decisions are mistakes, but this one was as close as it came. MK was PACKED! :crowded: It was worse than the Halloween Party. It was worse than the night of my Dis Meet. :scared1: It was CRAZY!

I think we were able to do a couple of rides before lining up to do Wishes close to main street. I say close, because we couldn’t actually get to main street due to the crowd. After wishes, I got the bright idea that we should eat, and by the time we were finished the crowd would surely die down. We decided to eat at Cosmic Rays.

Want to see what I waited in line for an hour for?

101_0262.jpg

101_0263.jpg

Yep. 1 hour for a crappy cheeseburger.:sad2: This one was just as dry as the ones we had at Pecos Bill’s. What have they done?!?!?!?!

I really wish I had taken a picture of this place while I was standing in line. It was a MADHOUSE! :crowded: To the point where I really couldn’t do anything but laugh. I have never witnessed anything quite like it. I did snap a picture of Sonny Eclipse though:

101_0264.jpg

We had never seen him before, and we both found his little shtick to be fairly entertaining.

When we finished dinner, the park was still super crowded – so we decided to catch a ride on “Ol’ Faithful” aka TTA. This was the best decision I made the whole night! Why? Because I got to see Space Mountain WITH THE LIGHTS ON!!!! SCORE!!!! :dancer:

101_0266.jpg

When we were finished on the TTA, we surveyed the crowd level and decided it was just too thick to really enjoy, so we called it a night. On the way out, I did snap a few picks of the little statues they had at the hub. I don’t remember these from previous years, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t there.

101_0267.jpg

SO, what did you get at Goofy's Candy Co? WE never made it there on our trip. Have to hit that on our next trip:thumbsup2

Hey Sharky!

We got the 3 pretzel stick deal. I had mine dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in reese's peanut butter cups, and drizzled in white chocolate. Mark had his dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in butterfinger - no drizzle. It was my first time visiting, but I have to say now I am hooked. We'll be back!

Thanks for reading - and posting!

Your title got me, so I had to take a peek and read. I'm loving your report--you're very funny! I hope the job stuff improves; my BFF's company she works for is getting ready to go under and it is very stressful.

We discovered the joys of sleeping in a couple of days finally on our trip this month, too.

Hey Dianna!!!

That sounds so good. Chocolate pretzels are my weakness. I have to hit that place the next time we go.:goodvibes

Glad you had a good meal at Tutto, despite the communication barrier. I can not believe they were going to comp a meal for that, wow.:goodvibes

That stinks MK was so crowded. Glad you were able to keep your sense of humor and stille enjoy yourself:goodvibes

Hi,
All caught up.

great updates and pics.

I had the lasagna in january when I ate there and will probably have it again IN december when I go back. :rotfl2:

Hey Scott!

Thanks for checking in! I cannot believe how busy I have been at work. I swear, I have been working harder since I "lost" my job, than I did before I "lost" it. :confused3

I mean - COME ON! Don't these people know work seriously cuts in to my Dis time?!?!?! :rotfl2:

Hopefully I can get an update up next week.:thumbsup2

Thanks for hanging in there with me.
