I got fired while vacationing at Walt Disney World, what to do and what not to do

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I do believe that things happen for a reason, and this happening will lead to something better for you. Honestly, it didn't sound like that great a place to work!

A few years back we had taken DS to WDW right after his Freshman year of college had ended. We were having a fairly good time, sitting on the train at MK. He checked his phone and huge tears started rolling down his face. He was not a kid who would cry in public so I knew it was bad. His first semester of college was a rough one, he totally bombed. He did much better his second semester, but it was evidently not good enough-he had received a letter via email that due to his grades he was losing his scholarships. It was a long miserable night for us. The next morning he made a phone call and arranged a meeting with the Assistant Dean. After his meeting and a mandatory essay letter, he was put on academic probation and allowed back to school. He did much better overall as a result of that experience, he's now a senior and doing great.

I wish you all the best!

Crying in the Magic Kingdom is the absolute worst. I'm so sorry that happened :(

I'm so sorry to hear about the firing while at WDW! It must have been such a shock and hard to equate with enjoying a long planned vacation. But it does sound like you have gained some perspective now!

Many years ago I was chaperoning a six week summer science camping trip course with high schoolers across the US and Canada. I called DH one evening only to find out that my teaching job had been eliminated without any warning due to another teacher winning an appeal and taking my job.

There I was, thousands of miles away from home (before cell phones) camping in rural Canada and jobless. Poor DH had to figure out what to do next. We found that coming home wouldn't help and that I would be assigned to a school since I did have tenure. Eventually it all worked out and definitely for the better despite a horrible forced placement in a tough school teaching new content etc. the following year.

Today, I tell people that losing my job was one of the best things that ever happened to me! I learned so much about myself and teaching and found that I truly liked change. I transferred voluntarily several times in my career; volunteered for a temp placement as a teacher specialist even though it lasted only 8 months for the experience. Sometimes I wonder if I ever would have left my original school if all this hadn't happened. I can't imagine never having all the experiences I had and learning what I did.

Wow, what a story! Can I just say, you write beautifully. You are obviously an intelligent young woman and I'm so happy to see the update that you found another job. I hope this one makes you happy and helps you to start saving for another trip with your friends in another year or two! Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I'm so excited to work at this new place. It's stable, reliable, clean, and always so friendly. Even when I went to this market as a customer I loved it haha and I'll be working with my best friend too! It's exciting :)
