I finished my first 1/2 marathon this weekend in Virginia Beach, and it wasn't that bad! It was so great proving to myself that I could accomplish it. I even met a fellow WISHer at the race, I think her SN is GettinThin, and it was great to meet her. She really gave me inspiration before the race, since she has done the Goofy race and a half the past two years (WOW :yay: ). I was proud of myself, the only time that I walked was up the Rudee Inlet bridge and briefly at a couple of water stops. The best part was rounding the corner on 37th Street and seeing the Atlantic Ocean in front of me and then running down the boardwalk to the finish line. All of it was fun, I just remained focused, enjoyed the scenery, and after 2:53:15 I was done with 13.1 miles!! I didn't run fast, just slow and steady, but I made it, and I felt pretty good afterward. Now I have to find another run to get ready for so I can stay motivated about working out. I am doing the 5K with my daughter at Disney on marathon weekend, but it's seriously going to be a bummer being at Disney, but not being able to run the half when I know I could do it. Oh well, maybe next year :) I hope everyone had a great labor day weekend, mine was spectacular! :cool1:

Congratulations!!! Great job!!! :cheer2:

Congratulations and fabulous time!

Wendy is great, I am glad she was a great encouragement for you!

Awesome job! Way to go! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey! Glad you had a great run! (Knew you would!) It's always good to meet the folks from this forum. I've met a lot of warm, encouraging, and generous folks here -- and they are just as nice in person as they are in print.

Enjoy the 5K at Disney -- the half will still be there next year. Look at it this way -- You get to be the scream team (and, beleive me, we need those screams!)

You did great!

But now it's in your blood and life will never be the same again. You have become an endurance athlete and you will be seeking longer and longer challanges.

Thanks for the race report. Wow, what an accomplishment! It was neat that you met someone from WISH, too!

Congratulations! I've got one of the RnR marathons on my list of races to do some day!

Congratulations! That's super! :cool1:

How was the race itself? Was the course pretty? The music truly rock'n? I read about it last month and wished I were farther along in my training so that I could go...but hey, that's what next year is for :)

Tinkerbell: Congratulations on your first (of many) halfs. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You should definitely be proud of your accomplishment.

The race wasn't bad at all, terrain wize it was nearly all flat, the only real "hill" was the Rudee Inlet bridge. There were a lot of spectators, as well as bands all along the course and cheerleading squads who were competing to win an award. The best part was around mile 10 when you turn the corner at 37th street and see the Atlantic Ocean in front of you, you know at that point you are almost done. I highly recommend the run, it was great. The American Music Festival is the same weekend so there were concerts all weekend as well, and your race bib gets you in free to those, or you can buy a pin for non racers which is $25, and kids under 12 get in free. I hope to see you there next year, I am definitely going to run it again then, and i'll even have my own WISH shirt by then :)
