I feel so special

Well, I wish I knew how to do labels because I would dothem and gladly use them.

I was thinking the same thing! If I knew how to put all the addresses in the computer it would be great and I could probably use that same list for parties and stuff too. How convenient, and then no one has to try to decipher my handwriting after I've written a few cards either ;)

I hate people like you...;) ...just kidding...mostly....a few people send me these gorgeous hand made cards that I feel like I can never throw away because they are works of art! Right now I am still displaying in my office a handmade birthday card that my former secretary gave me in March. I really feel guilty getting some of the beautiful cards that I receive!

Sorry. I'll take you off my list then. I don't want to make you feel bad about yourself. ;)

:rotfl: j/k

That's another reason for the spreadsheet - it makes it easy to run through and figure out who needs to be invited to parties - also easy to find an address to write a thank you note, etc.

It is really easy to set up a spreadsheet in a label format. Do you have Word?

I'm not sure these people did think of us, and that's the point of this post. There wasn't a single hand written word on or in this card.

That would bother me, too. Well, maybe not actually bother me, but I'd think of it as very impersonal. If someone can't take the time to even write my name and their name on the inside of the card, the card has no meaning for me. It's just one of a bunch of mass-produced, exactly alike cards. The address label on the outside of the envelope is no biggie, though, as the computer is just a modern day address book.

OP- I truly understand where you are coming from.
Christmas cards where there is not a hamdwritten word on them are nothing more than an impersonal "obligation".
I would much rather send cards to only those I truly care enough to at least acknowledge personally.
It is also against etiquette guidelines.

Using labels means puts the work of 'addessing' my cards into my 6 year olds hands. He put the stamps, address labels and return address labels on them. It makes him part of the process. I do however make him personally handsign all of our cards (only 35).

I'm getting responses from those who use labels, and that's fair enough. But frankly, I'm not sure these people did think of us, and that's the point of this post. There wasn't a single hand written word on or in this card.

Hehe,I don't even send cards, but I think you're overreacting.

I don't mind getting cards like that, as long as people in my life don't mind not getting one from me. ;)

The computer is such a lifeline for those who can't handwrite or can't handwrite well, for whatever reason. We saw our grandmothers' handwriting get so shaky that they eventually stopped writing; now it's happening with our mothers. In our generation and those that follow, we will be able to type labels, greetings and emails, allowing us to communicate in writing long after the fine motor skills go. It's a great thing!

I just looked- I have Word Perfect. I'll have to ask DH later, he probably knows how to set that up but wouldn't think of something like that until I ask. Well, tonight I will ask!!

I'm on my third eggnog and I'm coming around to this whole label thing now. You want me I should send you some eggnogs too?

My computer database is in Outlook. It allows us to keep it up to date. I reprint our phone book to keep near the phone each year. I use it for labels. And most importantly I have everyone catergorized. So I can grab a phone list or address list for any reason quickly. Like when DH needs phone list of certain military people for certain reason. Or if someone on his side of the family or my side of the family dies, I can sort the database that way too. We have a category for people who receive Christmas cards, a category for people in his sideline of computer repair busines...and so on.

Its also where I keep little tidbits of info on family & friends. Their kids names & birthdates. Anniversary dates. Deceased spouses names. Email addresses & cellphone #s. Anything about them. I think that shows that I care about them & they are not just a label.

I was unagainst keeping a database for a long time too even though it was part of my jobs for the last 20+ years. And I have a BS degree in computer science. lol But life gets complicated & you meet more & more people. And with people moving so much it was hard to keep up. It just became a necessity. It also makes it easier for DH to find info he needs since I seem to be the household secretary.

Outlook was not easy to learn to customize at all however. There must be easier methods.

I would have thought beer was your thing. (tag line) Enjoy your eggnog. :goodvibes

BTW: I need your mailing address to send you a card.

Well, this year I am making most of my cards. But I won't be personalizing them with an update.

Who knew so many people thought about so many different issues with cards. So wonder I tend to get all bah-humbuggy this time of year.

My hand literally craps up.

That cracked me up!

When I was taking computers classes, just learning about mail merge, I was so proud of myself. I put all addresses in the data base and printed out the labels......hmmmm....maybe I should try to get that up and running again. Not sure how else I'd get all the cards out before the holidays otherwise.

I'll take some if you are sharing. I need something as I am feeling a bit Snarky today.

Hopefully it is the spiked stuff??? :hippie:

No, I'm not sharing...unless you bow down and agree with my point of view! As for snarky, I try to refrain from sarcasm in all my communications.

Oh, and yes, there's haitian rum in mine.

If I send you a card you may not see anything handwritten on it either. I have arthritis and it has gotten very hard for me to write anything at all. I have gone from handwritten notes in all of my cards to simply signing them. If I knew how to do the address labels I would use them. I am ordering card next year that have my name and my husbands imprinted on them. The alternative would be that I do not send cards at all.

I find it odd that when so many people have stopped sending anything through the mail that someone would comment about the method a person chose to use when remembering them this Holiday Season.
