Yes, "And I Am Telling You I`m Not Going" IS the hit show stopping song of both the Broadway musical & the movie. But that's not what the story is about. The show isn't called "Fat Girl with an Amazing voice." (Jennifer Holliday was extremely fat - so were her all understudies in the Broadway show.) The part of her being extremely fat, not very attractive & having that voice gifted by God is intrinsic to being in direct contrast to the singing group being called Dreamgirls which are about glitz, glamour, illusion, sensuality, and sexuality over amazing talent.

Beyonce had to lose extra weight to make the weight difference more obvious as Jennifer Hudson is not that overweight.

They never hide the fact that everyone knows Effie is the better singer of the whole group. There is one song, " Family" which is a total betrayal of her.

Don't cry for Jen, she'll be fine. This kind of spin keeps people talking and will reflect in big returns in the box office. It's working!

The continuing "cat fight" bs gives me the creeps. No one expects a fight between Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx, the first being a failed singer and a superstar against a platinum record seller and an Academy award winner. It always seems to be woman against woman... so typical.

I wish you hadn't said that about Eddie Murphy! Now I can't get "my girl wants to party all the time, party all the time, partyyyyy alllllll the tiiiiiiime" out of my brain! :sad2:

Well its funny that i even started this thread, i'm not even interested in seeing this film! But i do think that "I'm telling you" is the hit song of the film, the beyonce song that they wrote for her was never in the original broadway show, it was only written for her so she could compete with jennifer hudsons showstopper. I read a review of the film and the title was "The singing in this film makes up for a lack of acting" ouch! I hope eddie murphy does better in this one than he did in "haunted mansion", he was awful in the death scene with his wife, it was almost laughable! that is one film that Disney should definitely remake!

as I said earlier, without a new song, they can't compete for an oscar in best song. they did the same thing in Chicago, adding a song that wasn't in teh Broadway score.

the Beonce role is supposed to be loosely based on Diana Ross. hers is the starring role, Hudson's role is a supporting player.

Hudson is very lucky to have landed such a juicy role for her first movie. she's going to be a breakout star.

I have seen the movie and bought the soundtrack. Jennifer had a new song written for her too. It is a great song too. I think it is called the "the man I love". :hippie:

well, now, after having seen the movie...

there are actually 4 new songs in the movie. as well as a few other changes from the Broadway show. the one they wrote for Beyonce was very powerful, and perfect for her character -- it would not have suited Hudson's character.

Hudson gained 20 pounds for the role. Beyonce lost 20 pounds in the middle of the movie -- she was much thinner for the scenes set in the 70's than the scenes in the 60's.

there isn't a bad performance by anyone in the movie. Murphy got his credibility back this time around.

when Hudson sings "and I am telling you I'm not going" in the middle of the movie (end of act 1 in the Broadway show), the audience applauds.

the OP titled this thread "I feel sorry for Jennifer Hudson." I do NOT feel sorry for her. she's not a bankable star like foxx of Murphy or Beyonce. but becuse she was lucky enough to land this role, she will become a star. and no one should feel sorry for her.
