I feel bad for Belle and Gaston in this European heat wave.

The 8 kids would spend most of the day playing in the backyard creek. Belle would be sitting on a rock with her feet in the creek, tuning out the kids while reading up on Newton’s law of cooling.
What would you name the 8 kids?

Gaston is full of hot air anyway. He wouldn't notice the difference.

We were at Windsor Castle a few years ago and one of the hosts kept apologizing for the heat. It was 78F at the time.

I love how the British underestimate weather here in North America. 78 F is pretty pleasant in North America. In England it’s considered uncomfortable?

In general some parts of Europe don't experience the same high temperatures and humidity as the US. These heat waves are an abnormality.

I would give Gaston a lot more credit than that. Gaston is not an idiot. He knows weather well due to being an excellent hunter and he saved the village from Portuguese mercenaries in 1740 at 16 and immediately joined the Royal French Army right after that. He served 8 years honorably in the War of Austrian Succession (1740-1748), including the bloody Battle of Fontenoy (which France won). During that time he would have faced different territories and different climates. If Gaston wasn’t of noble blood, he would have had little support when he returned in 1752. The commoner soldiers who returned were treated not the best as they received little support after the war. He does own his tavern though. I wish the spin-off was made to see what happened to him between 1748-1752. I wish Gaston had more respect at WDW. He wasn’t an immortal person, he just lost his way out of jealousy (like Brom Bones in Disney’s Sleepy Hollow). I wish Disney would have shown Gaston at 16. Maybe then he would get less hate. He’s a product of the people around him and the life experiences he went through. I wonder if in WDW someone called him captain LeGume, would he act more respectable in front of that person or the same goofy person? By the way, this was meant as a general statement, not directly disagreeing with your statement.

:flower3: Sorry - we weren't aware you knew him personally. ;)

Lol. 🤣 Of course not. But I have read articles about French soldiers from that time and some are very sad. His backstory is representing some of the soldiers problems of the time period. So I feel for the character in that sense. Here’s a song that talks about soldiers from that time:

My mother spent a summer in her homeland the Netherlands during a heatwave. She said that not only was the heat oppressive since none of her family and friends had air conditioning but they had a lot of wasps coming in through open windows. How would the characters handle the wasps? :scratchin
“Wasps don’t like herbs that are very aromatic, especially spearmint, thyme, citronella, and eucalyptus. Plant some of these around your patio and outdoor sitting areas to repel wasps.”

It’s not generally considered uncomfortable outside. The problem it when you’re inside in your well insulated brick house designed to keep heat in rather than out. The houses get unbearably hot and don’t have AC so aside from electric fans, there’s not much you can do about it!

Are AC units expensive to buy?

His actual live action backstory. If you look at the history of what European armies went through in the War of Austrian Succession, many came back with physical and mental issues because of what they did and saw. It wasn’t until after the American Revolution did soldiers start to be brought back into society. George Washington started the Purple Heart award and soldiers started to sometimes meet to discuss some of their traumas. It didn’t really gain traction though until the 1870’s after the Civil War. By that time, soldiers were more frequently talking together about past conflicts. Nothing like the VA today however (which I think most today would say still needs improvement). For much of the 18th century, soldiers not of noble blood were seen as purely expendable.
