I feel bad for Belle and Gaston in this European heat wave.

I wonder if Maurice would have invented AC for the village. Then maybe he would not have been seen as crazy.

My college in the US in the 90's didn't have air conditioning in the dorms or most of the historic buildings.
that's true!!! I was in the mid 90s in college. Central Illinois. Oppressive heat humidity. Many dorms didnt have AC. In one they had it only in the common area on the main floor and dining hall. We had a heat wave they allowed us to bring our mattresses/sleeping bags to camp there like refugees.

I work at a University and some of the dorms don't have A/C and BOY do I hear about it in class in September where (despite living in the northeast) it can still be quite warm.

What's stopping the older colleges from installing modern air-conditioning?
Sometimes the buildings just aren't set up for it or can handle the electrical load. Here in New England we have a ton of OLD colleges and A/C is more of the exception than the rule. Newer dorms of course have central air. My own house was built in 1840 and we use window units as the home just isn't set up for a central a/c system.

I would think the US Federal government would help redesign (with limitations to preserve the building) historical colleges in order to put modern air-conditioning in. Not having air-conditioning in educational facilities might be a health violation. I would think. But I'm not an attorney so I have no clue if that could be true or not.
