"I Don't Wanna Meet Mickey In a Frumpin' Poncho!" An August 2011 TR! COMPLETE 11/30

The UK pavilion - love it! The Yorkshire Co. fish and chips = yum! And Alice? I could collapse into a heap of warm and fuzzy sobs thinking of the interaction that same one had with my daughter. Alice is her favorite and she was so wonderful and animated with her. It was pa-recious! Loving' this trip report!

I just read through your entire TR!! I love how detailed it is!

Aww thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it! There's more coming soon!

Chapter 15- "Why Have I Never Eaten This Before!?"

August 19th, 2011

After our lovely, air conditioned lunch, we decided to shop around the U.K. a little.

dsc04706l.jpg

While we were browsing around the shops, we found this board of U.K. trivia. I only know some of these, so why don't we open it up to the readers? In your comment, tell me which U.K. phrases you know and which American term they match up with!

dsc04710q.jpg

We saw Pooh and Tigger doing meet and greets in the back room of one of the shops, so we got in the very short line! At the time, I had a Winnie the Pooh pin on my lanyard, but no Tigger one! :scared1: Tigger gestured to it and wanted to know why that was. I told him that it was because he was too popular! Needless to say, he LOVED that. We totally became best friends. It was awesome.

Here we are arguing, hugging and posing with Sarah and Pooh!

dscn0069l.jpg

dscn0070p.jpg

dscn0071b.jpg

I love those Hundred Acre Frumps. I really do.

We then spotted a FAR less frumpy character who is sitll my all-time favorite no matter how composed she seems.
dscn0073w.jpg

It's MARY POPPINS!!!!
dscn0074ab.jpg

She said "spit spot" at one point while we were talking to her and I think I died a little. LOVE that movie. It's been my favorite since I was really little. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

After we chatted with Mary and had a Supercalifragilistic time, Scott and Sarah decided to head back to Coronado (Or Corona, or Corando, or Colorado, or HOWEVER you wanna say it...) to swim. Meanwhile, Mom and I decided to stay and explore some more!

She really wanted to prove to you all that it was REALLY crowded while we were there, so she took this pic of me amidst the throng.
dscn0075n.jpg

I know what you're thinking...

HOW DID I EVER GET OUT OF IT!?!?

The answer is that I have NO idea. Must have fought my way through or simply ran like a deer around the pavilion till I found a way.

Anywho, after Mom and I had our U.K. fix, we headed over to the next country on our tour, but not before taking my obligatory archway pic!
dscn0072x.jpg

Pretty soon we were approaching France!
dsc04715c.jpg

dscn0076w.jpg

We decided that it was really necessary to go into Boulangerie Patisserie at that point.
dsc04717n.jpg

We got in line and were graciously welcomed and waited on by an assortment of good-looking French CM's. Ahh my favorite kind. <3 Sadly, Alexandre from January was yet again nowhere to be seen. ):

Oh well, we were really there for the FOOD! We decided to order a Napolean and share it. We found a nice little table in that cute, air conditioned back part of the shop adjacent to the bakery to enjoy our treat.

dsc04718s.jpg

We took a bite and...

WOAH.

That's all I can really say.

Just kidding, it's not.

As a frump of many words, I can say that this easily ranks in the list of the Top 5 snacks I have ever or will ever have at WDW. Not sure where, with the exception of school bread being #1, but MAN is it up there!

dsc04719n.jpg

A bombarment of deliciousness is about to come your way. Beware. It may make you want to run to your fridge and scrounge around for any old, remotely delicious thing. For the sake of saving energy, resist that urge!!!

dsc04720h.jpg

dsc04722n.jpg

Ahh...SO FREAKING GOOD.

The pastry part was flaky, light and absolutely perfect, but not so flaky that it all fell apart. It stayed intact pretty well. The custardy goodness in between the layers was absolutely heavenly and not sickeningly sweet or anything. And, of course, it's covered in powdered sugar, so you really can't go wrong there. All in all the perfect World Showcase snack to share with a friend or eat by yourself. It's YOUR call.

After Mom and I had sufficiently stuffed ourselves, we headed out into Paris, where we discovered that the Servuer Amusant show was just starting!
dsc04727sy.jpg

This was so cool and so funny! I never actually stopped to watch it before, but I'm glad we did! The chef on the ground was very witty and the waiter in the sky was super talented! It was so cool!

dsc04729v.jpg

dsc04730q.jpg

dsc04731au.jpg

dsc04733t.jpg

After my Mom had chewed all of her nails off in her worry that the waiter would fall, we backtracked over to Canada for some more World Showcase fun!

Chapter 16- I'm Simply ALWAYS On the Monorail...

August 19th, 2011

When we got to Canada, we had some fun, rockin' music! It turns out that Off Kilter was doing a set!
dsc04736vz.jpg

dsc04737d.jpg

Mom and I stayed and watched for a few, and then we grabbed a strawberry smoothie from one of the coffee carts to share. It was really delicious and refreshing! Gotta stay hydrated on these hot Florida summer days!
dsc04739f.jpg

When we sufficiently Kiltered, I headed over to The Land sans the rest of our smoothie to use my Soarin' fastpass. Sarah and Scott, in their haste to get to the pool, gave theirs to a "nice young couple" who were just entering the park. I bet they really appreciated that!

Mom went to shop around in Mouse Gear while I rode. While I was walking over to The Land, I saw one of the most rare Princes EVER to be seen out in the parks.
dsc04740l.jpg

PRINCE PHILIP!!!!

The only problem was, he seemed to be only greeting one group in particular, and no line was forming for him. Also, there were about three character attendants with him instead of just one, and he was waving goodbye to that group and heading inside when I glanced back about a minute later. How strange and sad it was.

However, before I passed right on by, I just had to say hello to him! I did so and he said hello back, and asked me if I had seen Princess Aurora lately. I said of course and that she was in France. He thanked me, bowed, and said that he would be off to find her soon.

It was all really precious and confusing at the same time. I wish we could have gotten a picture together!

Oh well, moving on. After smelling The Land with unnaturally deep breaths, I hopped into the Soarin' Fastpass queue and was in the loading area after about 10 minutes. I became friends with a British family and a family from Montana while I was in line, and we had rather a nice chat.

Soarin' and Patrick were brilliant as usual, and after the ride I met up with my Mom at Mouse Gear, where we browsed a little more, may or may not have bought anything, and headed out of the park.

We caught a bus back to Coronado Springs and were in our brand new, Lagoon view room by 4:15!

Here's a some shots of our room/view!

Sarah and Scott came up from the pool and we were all cleaned up and on a bus in no time!

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at about 10 minutes to 5, and we headed for the resort launches. None were in sight except for one on it's way to the Grand Floridian, so we hopped aboard MY (MINE MINE MINE) Highway in the Sky.

I swear, I am ALWAYS on that thing. For someone who has NEVER stayed at a monorail resort, I ride that thing a LOT. Oh well, I'm not mad.

No one is.

RIGHT???

Hehehe, anyways...

Monorail Photo Shoot Time!

dsc04753s.jpg

Mom was pretty excited to be on the Monorail too.

She took a couple shots of me and Sarah ON my Happy Place:
dscn0078q.jpg

dscn0079g.jpg

We arrived at the lovely Polynesian at about 5:15, where we headed straight to 'Ohana to check in!!!

dscn0080a.jpg

This was all of our first time having dinner here, and we were SO excited!!! And a little scared, because I heard there was a ton of food headed our way! Luckily, we hadn't eaten THAT much all day, so we were ready and rarin' to go!

dscn0082s.jpg

We were called by a CM named Kristen (What a great name!) less than five minutes after we had checked in, and she led us to our death...I mean table...

Chapter 17- "This Is the Story of How I Died..."

August 19th, 2011

I thought Jess and Lia would appreciate the Tangled quote...but really, it's true.

Kristen led us to our table along the wall of tiki gods, which had a really nice view of the grill and the windows on the other side. She immediately set down the Welcome Bread, which we LOVED. It really doesn't need butter of any kind, and that's when you KNOW that the bread you're eating is good. It was light and had subtle coconut and pineapple flavors. YUM!

dsc04764k.jpg

Ohana Tip #1: Do NOT eat all the bread. Unless you are a REAL bottomless pit/have a stomach the size of the Hulk (and all the more power to ya if this is the case) don't eat all the bread. I KNOW it's delicious, but so is everything else. Don't fill up on this so the paramedics have to keep restarting your heart in between courses.

In no time at all, our waiter, who was Toan from Haiti, brought our drink orders and the appetizer course.

This partly consisted of the Salad, which is Mixed Greens with Honey-Lime dressing. This was so delicious and REALLY light, which was a VERY good thing! The greens were fresh and the dressing was not too sweet or too sour, but perfect!

dsc04769y.jpg

The rest of the appetizer course consisted of Pork Dumlings drizzled with sweet and sour sauce and Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings.

dsc04777m.jpg

dsc04775d.jpg

These were both REALLY REALLY good! The dumplings were sweet and savory and my Mom's favorite part of the meal! The wings were not your ordinary Buffalo wings, their flavor was uniqu, sweet and almost a little smoky. The coriander definitely made things interesting, but in a VERY good way! We all loved them!

Ohana Tip #2: Do NOT try to finish all of the wings/dumplings. No matter how many they bring, how good they are, or how many starving children in Afria you think about, (this is always my problem...poor dears :() you do not want your stomach to spontaneously combust. It won't feel good. Remember, the meal has just begun!

With that thought in mind, we enjoyed our little break when Toan brought the meat sauces (shaped like a Hidden Mickey of course!) and some hot towels before the entree course.

dsc04770w.jpg

Can I just say that I LOVE hot, moist towlettes?? No matter that it was August in Florida, those things are heavenly. They really make the experience feel so much more upscale.

Pretty soon, though, Toan was bringing the skewers, noodles and veggies in an all-too-close succession of time. Not his fault though...they were ALL part of the entree!

The noodles and broccoli came in big bowls for everyone. The broccoli was stir-fried with snap peas and tasted fresh and delicious. Another great, light aspect of the meal!
dsc04784c.jpg

The noodles...ohhhh the noodles. The noodles were so heavenly!!! I loved the teriyaki sauce that they were lightly stir-fried in! SOOO good. These were a hit with everyone and definitely my favorite part of the meal next to dessert...but we'll get there!

dsc04783o.jpg

dsc04791ij.jpg

Toan brought skewers of Peel-n-Eat Shrimp, Marinated Sirloin Steak, Mesquite Grilled Chicken and Asian Barbequed Pork Loin. We all agreed with minimal discrepancy that they ranked in that order, with the shrimp being the best and the pork being the "worst." Now I put worst in quotes because it was still REALLY good, but ohhh that shrimp! PERFECTION.

dsc04787v.jpg

dsc04786mf.jpg

Now here's where we lead up to Tip #3. Toan was a great waiter, he really was. But he and his grill buddy whose name escapes me were CONSTANTLY trying to shove more food onto our plates. They were always showing up with full skewers, just when we started to talk about how full we were getting. He was SO nice and just doing his job, but man was I hitting a wall.

So therefore...

Ohana Tip #3: Do NOT be afraid to say no! Those Ohana waiters/waitresses will keep it comin' all night long unless you make it VERY clear to them that you, sir, are FULL. Be firm, be strong, and stand up to drugs and alcohol! Wait...what are we talking about again...? Sorry, I got sidetracked there! Uhh Ohana...right. Say no to the evil Skewers of Doom!!! There we go.

:rotfl2:

I slay myself. :upsidedow

So now, onto the best part of the meal. After we relaxed a bit and had some more hot towels (thanks Toan!) we decided that we were ready for THE DESSERT!

dscn0083fi.jpg

Now, if you recall from Jess' first trip report, she, Nat, our friend Alicia and I all made the Ohana dessert and it was REALLY good! You can find the update HERE. So you can imagine how excited I was to try the real stuff!!

dsc04792qy.jpg

dsc04793j.jpg

Toan brought us out this plate, and it just screamed Disney's ideals to me. A dessert to share with the old and young; something for everyone to enjoy. A total encompassing of the magic that brings people back to Disney again and again. That's how I would describe this dessert. It was a great consistency, with fresh pineapple and perfect textures and flavors throughout. If I ate mine sans ice cream and sauce, because of my whole warm bananas thing and dislike of melted ice cream, ESPECIALLY on top of dessert, but it is delicious either way! My family all loved it and Scott and I still have in-depth conversations about it to this day! I cannot WAIT to have this stuff with Allie in less than a WEEK!!!!

Ohana Tip #4: Do NOT burn out before dessert! It's the best part!! Take it slow and easy with the other courses and remember to say NO! You can always go back to other things later. Just make sure you save room to try it all, especially dessert! Use that as an excuse for the Evil Skewers if you have to!

Toan also brought out a birthday cupcake for me, and everyone sang and I blew out the candle. It was a right jolly good time. However, I was experiencing the aftermath of the Food Apocalypse at this point, so what I ate of it was minimal. It was pretty small though, so thank God for that.

dsc04798j.jpg

We paid with our DDP and Sarah and I received leis.

dsc04803t.jpg

I am in a lot of pain right there. I'm just also really happy about everything I just ate.

We went around the Polynesian pin trading and we headed downstairs, where I mailed Jess' postcard in the lobby. We also stopped at the DVC kiosk, where another monumental thing in my life began. We pin traded with the Cast Member there, Pete. We began talking to him about Disney Vacation Club, because Mom and Scott had been hearing about it's greatness from me for over a year. Pete was so nice and friendly and definitely made my parents really consider the idea. I was ever so grateful to him for that and for something that comes up later in the trip! He also began talking to me about the Disney College Program, which I am hoping to do in the Spring of 2014. He said that my personality and love for Disney and its ideals was exactly what Disney looks for in its Cast Members, which basically made my day, week, and my whole life. I totally gave that guy like five hugs before we left. We talked to him for almost an hour! He is definitely my all-time favorite CM that I have encountered to date! And readers, DO NOT forget this man! He will become very important later in this TR and in a certain Frump TR of Jess' and mine that is currently in progress...

After our monumental chat with Pete, we headed up to the Monorail. We were headed to what I THOUGHT were going to be some pretty typical Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom! We ponchoed up because it was raining a bit and headed out!

Hooray for a monorail photo shoot and 'Ohana! :cool1:

A thought on Prince Philip...I have heard that when new characters are in training, they meet and greet in Epcot (example: I randomly saw Rapunzel in Epcot, sort of near Innovations, in June 2011). I've heard Gaston (!!) has been spotted in the park recently...maybe they are getting ready to meet and greet us all in the new portion of Fantasyland?! :scratchin One can only hope...fingers crossed! :hyper:

Maybe!!! Ahh that would be awesome! I know they did that exact thing with Merida in the beginning of May. That could be! I hope so! :goodvibes

Loved your update. This one seemed to have more food in it than most-not good to read before breakfast. Now all I want are Neapolitans and bread pudding!

Loved all the pics of CSR as well Gorgeous!

It WAS. You definitely should! They would probably be in their glory.

Chapter 18- No...It Can't Be...OH MY GOD IT IS!!!

August 19th, 2011

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom after our short monorail jaunt, and decided to look around the Emporium while we waited for MSEP.

dsc04812mh.jpg

While we were in there, my Mom suggested that we check out the new Town Square Meet and Greet with Mickey and Minnie. I told her that I looked and felt gross from the rain and my food coma from Ohana, and that I did NOT want to meet Mickey in a poncho! Yes- this is the Trip Report title explained! She persisted and I defied her even more. Can ya tell we're a stubborn family? Finally, Scott gave me a look that said "You know she's not gonna give it up- just go along with it." So I begrudgingly obliged and we headed out of the Emporium.

While we were walking up Main Street, it occurred to me that my Mom was being a little too persistent with this whole thing. Usually, she would just take Sarah and leave me behind. There must be some reason, I thought, why she wants me to go meet Mickey so badly. Then, by some strange divine inspiration, Jess popped into my head. I thought- what if she's here? Don't ask me why or how, because I have NO idea. Then, from across Town Square, I saw someone in the theater who looked kind of like Jess. She was wearing a bright green T-shirt and a stretchy headband- the sort of attire that Jess usually wears to work. I then saw someone standing next to her, and I immediately thought of Mother. However, this person looked to short to be Mother. I tried to push the idea from my head because I thought that my mind was playing tricks on me and that I would just get my hopes up and be disappointed.

Nevertheless, as we neared the theater, something inside of me made me flat-out sprint into the theater. When I got to the steps, I realized that it was Jess and Nat in there!!!!! And I SCREAMED and ran in there, basically knocking Jess flat on the ground.

dsc00085gvv.jpg

I think I screamed "OH MY GOD" for about twenty minutes. I honestly couldn't believe it!!! My best friends came all the way to Disney and did all this planning and secrecy to SURPRISE ME!?!?! I couldn't believe how blessed I was to have such amazing friends. In that moment I was the happiest I'd ever been. I was so overwhelmed with joy and shock that I literally had to sit down in the middle of the lobby. My head was spinning! I was so happy!!! I was in my favorite place on earth with all of my favorite people in the world!!! I am seriously so lucky. I couldn't believe it. I still can't. It was one of the most memorable moments I think I'll ever have.

dsc00086flj.jpg

This pretty much sums up my happiness:
dsc00091vd.jpg

dsc00092jn.jpg

dsc00093ks.jpg

We headed out of the theater and I think I was STILL hyperventilating. My eyes look really watery in this next picture, so I'm pretty sure I had cried some tears of sheer joy and bliss.
dsc00095vm.jpg

Still confused...
dsc00097bj.jpg

YAY!!! THE FRUMPS ARE TOGETHER IN DISNEY!!!!

dsc00098ox.jpg

dsc0072ec.jpg

We watched the Main Street Electrical Parade from Town Square, which was a great view! I was WAY to excited to concentrate on it, though.

Jess got some great pics of Alice, Peter Pan, and the whole light-up gang!
dsc0075ap.jpg

dsc0076jp.jpg

dsc0077bu.jpg

dsc0078mn.jpg

dsc0079dy.jpg

I honestly think I would marry Peter Pan if I could.
dsc0080ty.jpg

dsc0082kf.jpg

We walked down Main Street toward the Castle to get a good spot for The Magic, the Memories and You! and Wishes! after the parade was over.

I remember texting Jess' mom as we were walking: "I am walking down Main Street with your daughter." To which she replied that she was so happy that the surprise had gone well and that we were all together! SO WAS I!!!!

MM&Y and Wishes are just the most beautiful thing ever. I remember that it was kind of hot because of all the body heat in the Hub, but that I loved the show from there! It's absolutely the best view!

dsc0087pp.jpg

dsc0092oe.jpg

dsc0101kai.jpg

"And all our Wishes...will come true!"

dscn0087y.jpg

dscn0092bc.jpg

GUESS WHAT!?!? THEY DID!!!

After the shows were over, we had some EMH to conquer!

Chapter 19- The Frumps Are Back, Baby! Part 1!

August 19th, 2011

We all headed to Fantasyland, where Mickey's Philharmagic crew entertained us with smells, laughs and a collision or two!

dsc0102tw.jpg

dsc0104mku.jpg

Then we headed over to It's a Small World!

dsc0110ek.jpg

We were so happy to be together!

dsc0111zf.jpg

dsc00099ih.jpg

Now see if you can tell the difference between these next two pictures:
dsc00100at.jpg

dsc0112zw.jpg

Can you? I'm stumped.

:rotfl:

We said Auf Wiedersehen to all the elephants, clowns and singing gypsies and headed to Tomorrowland!

dsc0124il.jpg

We had really wanted to take a spin on the TTA, but unfortunately it was closed. They sometimes close that and the Carousel of Progress during EMH, so take note all you planning fanatics!

Instead, we went over to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and basically walked on! Nat was so excited to be reunited with her Toy Story friends. She LOVES Toy Story. More than anyone else I know. But more on that later.

dsc0130on.jpg

Mom and I rode together!
dsc0135rr.jpg

dsc04836d.jpg

And Nat with Jess:
dsc0137qu.jpg

And Scott with Sarah!
dsc0139tp.jpg

I did terribly as usual, but everyone else did pretty well!

I think Nat was just excited about the merchandise, though.

dsc0141bq.jpg

"He actually smells like strawberries!!! WOAH!!!"
dsc0140lf.jpg

Then, we all unfortunately got trapped by the Evil Emperor Zurg and were held captive there until our respective days of departure.

dsc0142vy.jpg

The end.

.......................

.......................

JUST KIDDING! We all squeezed out of there just fine! Well, I had a little difficulty, but I blame Ohana for that!

Next we headed over to one of my favorite Magic Kingdom attractions!

dsc04839la.jpg

The Laugh Floor! I love this thing. The jokes are so cute and I'm always hopeful that the "churro guy" will actually come through one of these times!

We did pretty well with the laughs that night!

dsc0144yuo.jpg

We managed to fill it all the way up, and thank God for that, or Roz wouldn't have opened the exit doors. :scared1:

After we escaped the clutches of Roz and narrowly avoided slipping on her slime, we headed across the park for some more Extra Magic Hour fun!

Ohana has to be one of the most amazing restaurants ever....but the amount of food you receive is pure evil...I could fill up on the salad, bread, and dessert alone and not have room for any of the rest of it.

Yay for the surprise going so well...it was awesome to hear it from your point of view as well and to see how happy all you guys look to be reunited in Disney.

I cna't believe your next trip is only 5 days away!! You must be so excited:goodvibes

I completely agree. If I could just have the bread, noodles, and dessert...I would. Carb-lover over here...:upsidedow

It was one of the best experiences EVER! I loved it! We were all so thrilled!

I AM FREAKING OUT!!! Still so much to do, but I have to load you all up on reading material first! I think one more update should do it. I'll round off the night and leave y'all with a nice cliffhanger! ;)

I've told them that the CMs will keep bringing out food and it is so darn good you can't not eat it....they think I'm exaggerating..they'll be in for a surprise! :lmao:

We'll be there July 20--which will be our last full Disney day...I'm getting sad thinking about it! :(
