"I Don't Wanna Meet Mickey In a Frumpin' Poncho!" An August 2011 TR! COMPLETE 11/30

Chapter 12- "I'M A PIN TRADER NOW!"

August 18th, 2011

Well, I'm pretty sure the title gave it away, but my monumental decision was that I decided to become a pin trader! I had seen so many people having so much fun with it, and I wanted to be a part of it! So I picked out a nice set of Disney Character Firefighter pins to trade and the Pixar lamp pin to keep. NOTE: I did not learn this until AFTER the August trip, but it is a LOT less expensive to pin trade if you buy pins from Ebay or something before your trip. I learned this the hard way. Also, you won't run out of pins (or money) as quickly! It just makes sense.

While I was picking out my pins, Sarah decided to do the same. We were both becoming pin traders! She became a little bit more of a collector on this trip though. She also spotted these Mickey ears, which she loved:

When I went to check out, a GORGEOUS French CM struck up a conversation with me. We talked about the college program, where I was from, what Paris was like, what my trip entailed, (little did I know what it would REALLY entail) what I liked to do, what we liked best about Disney, and so on. We literally talked for almost half an hour. It was awesome! We were the only people in the store, and another CM was chatting with Mom and Sarah, so he and I just talked forever! His name was Valentino. YEAH. Like, really? Swoon. Haha he was really nice and even saw us all out! When I was back at the GF later on in the trip, I saw him from outside the store and he recognized me and waved. We talked for a few minutes then too. It was so great. He even set up Sarah's and my lanyards for us! How sweet.

After we left my doll house of Frenchmen and swooning, we began to make our way downstairs, but not without a picutre first!
dscn0045d.jpg

Don't we look super snazzy with our new lanyards? I thought so.

We went downstairs and outside to explore. We found this topiary of Mary Poppins over by 1900 Park Fare. I basically died from the cute of it all. I HAD to take a pic with her!
dscn0047ak.jpg

And of course Sarah did too:

Group shot!

I wanted to steal her and stick her in my backyard, but then I thought about how sad I would be if someone forcibly removed me from Disney. Actually, it's happend. And it SUCKS. So therefore, out of courtesy and my regard for the Golden Rule, I left Mary where she was and moved on.

Fortunately, I was soon distracted by this carriage which I wish I could ride in daily.
dsc04477c.jpg

Can't you see me doing my princess wave from in there, accopanied by the most beautiful of deer faces? I think it would be rather brilliant.

Look at me all at home with this form of transportation unbeknownst to most:

dscn0051qb.jpg

I'm actually not even sure if unbeknowst works where I put it because it's one o' clock in the morning and I just watched reality TV for three hours, so my brain is basically fried. HOWEVER I thought it sounded smart. And I wanted to type it. FART SHOES.

Anyway...moving on...

After that excursion we headed to the bus stop. Did you know that there is a TV at this bus stop??? YEAH. THERE IS. Would I lie to y'all about this?

And did I mention that this TV PLAYS STACEY!?!?

YEAH. IT DOES.

I need to stay at this resort. It's kind of killing me inside.

Anywho, we waited about 10 minutes for a bus and then hopped aboard to Downtown Disney!

We got there and waited for Scott to meet us. What did we do while we waited, you say? Well, we went shopping of course! In here to be exact:
dsc04480na.jpg

We bought a Mouskears hat ornament and got it customized with the year 2011 on it. That baby hung proudly from our tree last Christmas! I actually received my own Mousekears ornament recently from a friend of my mom's who I had made a CD of some classic Disney music for. She was so grateful and excited that she had found another Disney lover that she sent me one! It was so sweet! I can't wait to hang it on the tree I'll put in my room this year!

We left that store and went to trade and purchase trading pins in the pin store. After that, we met Scott at the entrance to Rainforest Cafe, which was where we would be dining that evening!

We checked in at Rainforest with our ADR and were seated almost right away! We had a great spot by all the fish tanks!

Our waitress' name was Tara, and she brought as all the fun smoothies that we ordered. Unfortunately, because the lighting is REALLY weird in there, I only have a pic of my smoothie, which was the Orangesicle. This name totally fits, because it really tasted like a creamsicle! YUM.
dsc04498a.jpg

Scott had the Rainforest Ricky, which is a blend of pineapple, orange, apple, strawberry and grapefruit juices. He had it served straight up and said it was awesome!

Mom had the Brazilian Freeze, which is a mixture of coconut, pineapple, raspberry purée and banana. Delish!

Sarah had the Raspberry Lemonade Freeze, which is pretty straightforward but still so yummy!

We ordered our entrees, and even thought Tara was pretty quick with bringing them, mom still had time to snap a shot of all of us! This will be a pretty reoccuring theme.
dscn0052u.jpg

Our entrees came nice and hot! Sarah had the kids ribs meal with chips. She said the ribs were tender and yummy. She ate it all up!
dsc04499c.jpg

Scott had the Mahi Mahi, shrimp AND scallops! Everything was cooked perfectly, and he was raving about the flavors and seasonings! Definitely a great choice!
dsc04500z.jpg

Mom and I both had the coconut shrimp, which is our FAVORITE thing to order here. It's just so good! We're huge seafood and coconut fans, so combining the two just blows our minds. Ours came with tons of shrimp, blacks beans and rice as well as veggies. It was all so great! We loved this meal and we will most definitely be ordering it again!
dsc04501g.jpg

We ate up all our food and Tara was very impressed. We had other dessert plans, so we paid using our 10% off with Safari Club and went to look around the gift shop.

As it turns out, a monsoon had decided to strike Disney while we were eating.

How rude.

So, in addition to the two tropical dresses that my mom purchased, she also bought 3 ponchos, as I had one already. The ones at Rainforest were super cute though! Like a Safari outfit! Look at Sarah rockin' hers:
dsc04515xg.jpg

We all ponchoed (yeah it's gonna be a verb now) up and booked it to our dessert destination, also known as Goofy's Candy Company!

Mom and Scott got a giant peanut butter cookie to share, while I got some choco-walnut fudge. Sarah went for the chocolate covered marshmallows on a Mickey straw:
dsc04517f.jpg

We all enjoyed our desserts while we waited out the rain. Unfortunately, this rain wasn't going away anytime soon. We ended up racing to the bus stop and waiting about 10 minutes for a bus to CSR. Once we got back, I took a picture of Sarah's lanyard and the pins that she bought.

dsc04540m.jpg

We all took showers and I filled out Jess' postcard:
dsc04547p.jpg

We went to bed fairly early, because we had a big day planned the following day. And of course I had no idea just HOW big that day would end up being...

Stay tuned!

Hahahaha it might have been tricky to get Mary Poppins the Topiary back home with you! But that would have been a cool addition to your house! :thumbsup2

I could be wrong here, but I'm around 85% sure that the Swan's bus stop also has a TV with the Stacey loop!

AHH KRISTEN. I can't believe both of our trips are so close! We're almost there!

I am super jealous that you and Jess got to see the Beach Boys! That's such a great summer concert!

Scott's chill spot reminds me of the spot where Stephanie and Joey have their meaningful conversation about Stephanie letting Michelle's bratiness ruin her day. *sigh* Full House! :cloud9:

AHH that couple you met at El Centro is exactly who I want to be in 36 years! John and I went to Disney for our honeymoon and so far we've managed a trip every year for our anniversary, so I hope to still be doing that when we've been married 40 years!

Your afternoon tea looks like the perfect thing for a girls' afternoon! I love it!

YAY! Welcome to the FABULOUS world of pin trading! I started trading in 2007 and I have hundreds of pins...it's SO addicting! Maybe we can trade some when we meet up! :)

It sounds like Valentino was pretty impressed by you, too! ;)

Yay! DTD is just so great. I loved seeing your Rainforest Cafe pictures too, because we're eating there for the first time in several years NEXT WEEK!

Great updates! I can't wait for more! :thumbsup2

I've always wanted to start pin trading, but I just never get to it while I'm there. Rainforest cafe looks amazing, those smoothies look SO good. I can't wait to see your reaction to your surprise coming up! :yay:

Yeah it probably would have been...but I think it would look just lovely next to our garden!

Really? Guess I gotta stay there too then! :thumbsup2

AHHH I KNOW!!! I can't even contain my excitement!!! 11 days for me!!!!!! :woohoo:

It was SO much fun! We loved it!

Ahh I know exactly what you're talking about! The swing at the Grand Floridian right? If I ever stay there, I am going to find that swing and have a photoshoot. :cloud9:

Aww I hope it is someday! That is so wonderful that you and John have been able to do that every year! YAY!

It was! I absolutely loved it!

Thank you! I have been having a ton of fun with it! Jess and I got super into it on our May trip so I consider myself well versed in the world of pins now, but not as much as you! WOW! That's a lot of pins! :worship: Maybe we can! I would love to!

It sounds like Valentino was pretty impressed by you, too! ;)

Hahaha I hope so! He was my CM crush of the trip LOL.

It really is, I love it! AHHH that's so exciting! We're not going back till August, but that's really soon too! It's a tradition on every trip.

Thanks! Me either! Now if only I had the time...

By the way, if I don't get another update up before you leave, have an absolute BLAST in Disney and I will see you there!!!! :cool1::wizard::goodvibes

I've always wanted to start pin trading, but I just never get to it while I'm there. Rainforest cafe looks amazing, those smoothies look SO good. I can't wait to see your reaction to your surprise coming up! :yay:

You definitely should at some point! It's so much fun! I know, I was like okay I'm just gonna do it! It seems like a lot of work but it ends up being a fun addition to park touring. You can trade at the resorts too! It's so good there! The smoothies were delish! Hahaha that's coming up tomorrow!!!

I might have to get me one of those stylin' Rainforest ponchos. I know it is gonna pour a few times while we are there, so I will have to be ponchoed (so totally a verb) up anyway....might as well have one with a fun hat on it to keep the rain out of my eyes...right??

Thanks for the tip on pin trading. I've considered it but it looks so expensive at WDW. Good to know I can buy online.

The coconut shrimp is my favorite too! Its JUST SO GOOD!!

Hmm... I wonder what tomorrow might hold to make it THAT BIG! ;)

Pin trading is so addicting! In 2010, I found 50 cent pins at one of the nearby Disney outlets. My guy and I stupidly only bought 20 of them when we should've bought ALL OF THEM! We find ourselves just looking at CM's lanyards and such ALL THE TIME! It's fun to see designs we haven't seen before.

I love pin trading!! It's so much fun!! I'm glad you're doing it! :goodvibes I love the Christmas store at DTD! We always get an ornament every trip for our tree! Yumm!! Your lunch looked delicious! :lmao: I love Sarah's poncho!!! Too cute!

Yay for you deciding to become a pin trader...it always looks like so much fun:goodvibes

I started with pin trading a few years ago at Disneyland, but unfortunately it was an epic fail because I wanted to keep everyone I go..so yah pin trading was short lived for me haha lol.

Your french cm sounds amazing...and the GF is seriously one of the most gorgeous hotels every designed...love it!

The rainforest cafe is always soooo good and your smoothies look delicious!

Can't wait to hear more

Pin trading looks like so much fun! I've been meaning to order some on ebay so I can start trading (because you gave me the idea like a month or so ago!) but I forgot... so thanks for the reminder!! :thumbsup2

OMG MARY TOPIARY. That is too precious! Oh I love her.

Yay Rainforest! I really wish I liked coconut because that shrimp looks awesome!

Hahaha... hooray for an unknowingly epic day!

Very cool about the videos!:yay: I will def be looking foward to those! Super awesome you became a pin trader!:thumbsup2 Me and my fam always go onto ebay right before a trip to DL or WDW to get like 50 pins to split between us to trade! But i also love buying them to keep. I have a book full of them! I love at Goofy's candy Co how you can make those different desserts! My favorite is a vanilla cookie covered in white fudge with oreo crumbs and choco drizzle! :cloud9:It's to die for! I can't wait to see your part of finding Jess after reading about her's! Sorry if i'm commenting alot! I am just so in love with your trip reports!!! :goodvibesHappy 4th of July!!!!:wizard:!

Pin trading is great. I have loads. Be careful buying pins on ebay though because there's alot of fakes going around on it. If you look in the collectors section on dis board there's a thread about it and a list of the names of sellers selling the fakes. There's also a good website called pinpics that can help you keep track of your pins and also has some notes on which have fakes around as well so you know what to watch out for.

You definitely should! They're the latest runway trend.

I LOVE pin trading!!! Honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made. SO fun. It's only easy to do if you don't get easily attached, but I can understand how you did! All the pins are so awesome!

He was quite lovely. I am in LOVE with the Grand Floridian. I really really really really really REALLY REALLY hope I can stay there at some point!!!

They were! Everything was great!

(Am I allowed to say that on the dis?! :lmao:)

Ahh I really need to watch this episode!!!

It is! I love it oh so very much!!

Rainforest Cafe is SOO good! I always have a great experience there. There is one about an hour away from me, maybe a little more. I've never been there though! Only in Disney!

First...I'm hopping over from Jess' report and joining in on your trip. It'll be fun to read about it from your perspective.

Second...so when I started reading and I saw that you spent the night in GA my first thought was I wonder where. Then when I read that you were near the Mall of GA it made me smile. That's where I grew up. My parents live 5 minutes from the mall, still. That mall actually opened my sophomore year in high school...I spent a lot of time there before I moved away for college. I ended up staying in my college town and our mall is quite pathetic after having lived next to the Mall of GA. I'm glad y'all had so much fun seeing everything.

Third...I'm so glad you had Chick-fil-A! My Dad was an owner/operator for 30 years with the company...I grew up eating CFA daily. :) Next time you pass thru ATL you need to stop and eat at the original. It's a tiny little place about 5 minutes from the airport in Hapeville, GA and it's called The Dwarf House. There's even a mural with the seven dwarves and they migrate back and forth from their cottage to the mine. (Jess, if you are reading this you should have an adventure with Preston when you visit.) Whenever we fly back in to ATL we stop and our first meal is always there. We've been doing it like that since I was a little girl.

Anyways, sorry to hijack your thread. I just got all excited when I was that you passed by where I grew up and were eating CFA. :goodvibes Can't wait to read the rest and your joint report from your May trip. We missed y'all by a few days.

:welcome: Thanks so much for being here! I hope you enjoy it!

That's so funny! What a small world! I absolutely LOVED it there and I kept saying that I wanted to live there one day! It's beautiful!
