:sad2:

... I'm officially a DNS for my race tomorrow.
I'm supposed to do the Monster Dash half marathon in Minneapolis, MN tomorrow. Unfortunately, my hamstring has not healed enough to allow me to do so. :sad1:
I did a 5k event on Thursday and by the 2 mile mark I was hurting and hobbling noticeably. The darn thing just tightens up and then I start with shin splints! I iced it, used my stick, stretched, but it isn't ready yet.
I decided it wasn't worth risking further injury. Last time I pushed through shin splints I was on crutches for days.
So, I listened to my head instead of my heart and will not start the event.

Sometimes, I just don't like being rational!

Terri

Sorry :(
I hope in the long run (pun intended) it will pay off and you will have many more years of running and many more races to participate in races.

Terri Sorry for the DNS, but kudos for listening to your body. Maybe a little Halloween candy will take the sting out of it.

I feel your pain! Went through the same thing w/ the Jonas Cattell 10 miler in Haddonfield 2 weeks ago. I had knee problems from the W & D and reluctantly stayed on the sidelines. It was just awful! But in the end I know I'm better off.

Kudos to you for listening to your body!

Terri, ugh on the injury. I'm so sorry.
You are very smart to stay out and work toward healing that string. Hope you recover soon and can be back at it.

Terri - a DNS sucks, but the fact you knew what you body needed was FAR more important. Way to go!!

Good job!! I'm in the exact same boat...hurt my hammy running the Chicago marathon over 3 weeks ago and I can still feel it. Chance to run another marathon next weekend and I SO want to do it, but I know what the smart thing is. It's just a whole lot easier to tell other people what the smart thing is than to do it yourself!:rotfl2: Way to go on doing the smart thing for your long-term running!:thumbsup2

I've been in the same boat and understand the frustration. It is better to take the hit now and heal properly though then push it and end up laid up for a lot longer. In a few weeks you'll be glad you did it and can be back out there instead of nursing the injury you just made worse.

You did the right thing! Better to let your body have the rest so that it can heal properly. You want to make sure you're well enough to run another day. But I've been there too - had to skip my 15 miler last weekend because of some knee problems. Not easy to do but better now than later.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, this stinks. I'm not the most patient person and waiting for this to heal is killing me!

Went back to PT yesterday and he shut me down toatally. No running. He said he could feel the thickness in spots in the hammie and we need to break up the scar tissue. Also have to go back to the ortho for him to re-examine. PT said the tear may have been worse than originally thought. He was glad I didn't do the half.
So, it's back to the drawing board. I'm glad I didn't register for Goofy, as now there is no way I'd be ready for that. Hoping to do the 5K in Jan.

Terri

Wow, Terri! That is some kind of injury to keep you down. Good for you for listening to your body and giving it time off to heal properly. I'm sorry you won't get to do Goofy but I think you'll have a lot of fun cheering on the others...at least that was my experience when I couldn't do the half two years ago due to a knee injury.

Here's some :wizard::wizard::wizard: to help speed up the healing process. :goodvibes
