I finished the family tree! 50 hours, 4 beers, a martini, and 4690 relitives later ITS DONE!! Well, at least till I find more family members

Can you give me a brief description how you did it? I mean did u do immediate family or just kept connecting dots? Did u use a software/website?

I started on myhertage's free program. I like this because it has smart links, so if your trees names matches another, a circle pops up and you can check out the other tree. I actully found a website by a cousin I never knew so I used his well done site to link many more relitives. All in all a pretty painless process.

Wow! I'm feeling inadequate. I've been working on my family tree for almost two years.

It took me a long time and I had to sit down and dedicate hours at a crack to the project. Im trying to serch back further on my great grandpas side but its challanging. I can go 15 generations back on my mom's fathers side, 5 on my moms moms side and I havent bothered with my fathers side.

I'm so impressed! I started mine in January on a cold yucky day when I was just looking for something to do; now its a bonafide obsession!

I use ancestry.com but I want to check out the one you mentioned also. It can't hurt to have access to more info, right?

I've laid to rest lots of family folk-lore that was always accepted as truth and I've learned more history in the last two months than I ever learned in school.

I have hit a few brick walls, which are frustrating, but it keeps the hunt challenging, ya know?

LOL, you're right! Last night, I told my son I'd traced my grandfather's family back to the beginning and he said, "to Adam and Eve?". Uh, no, Mr. Smarty Pants..
I actually meant back to the point of immigration to America which was about 1619. Almost 400 years, though, seems like a long way to me!

They moved to Florida and, interestingly, this grandfather and his wife dropped from all records around 1845, presumed killed by Indians during the second Seminold war.

Have you tried ancestry.com? You can use it for two weeks free of charge and you'll be amazed at how much you can learn in two weeks. Even if you choose to cancel when the trial period is up, you will still have access to the tree you created as well as message boards and other tools. I got so much info from other users who either share an ancestor with me or are just a bit better at searching than I am. Online research is soooo much easier than going to the library and spending hours staring at images on microfish and entering info by hand. I don't think I would have ever done this the old school way!
