And I am still here to tell about it! :rotfl:

He had these claws that just stuck to everything, wherever he went. So it occured to me today, why not clip them the way I would my own. So I sat him down next to me, and gently clipped his front claws...being careful not to cut too low, that could hurt him. Once he realized I wouldn't let him go until it was finished, he just sort of sat there and let me do it. :)

Now the couch has a fighting chance! :woohoo:

My best friend took DD 10 shopping to spend her birthday money this afternoon. I said it was alright if Madison wanted to have her ear pierced up on top..don't know what that is called...if she really wanted to (she already has double ear pierced).

They just called and she did it. She said it didn't hurt at all (she has this pain tolerance you would not believe!!).

Anyway, when my friend filled out the form...she just put Madison's last name as hers. Then, after it was done Madison says "My mom won't believe I did it!!!"....My friend said the girl who did it just gave her a stunned look....but my friend tried to cover it up by saying "You're right....I don't believe you did it"!!!

I would like to pierce mine up there too...but I am too chicken!!

Just thought I'd share.....

Make sure you got the dew claw...the one in the back kinda on the inside of the leg. I have always clipped my cats nails after their baths, but wouldn't you know I kinda always looked over that dew claw until I found that the nail had actually gotten so long that it was in one of his pads, the vet had to remove it and I think it was quite painful. I use a regular nail clippers that I use on my finger nails, to me it works better then the pet ones at least for cats.

I do it every month. Ariel, our cat, still does not like it. Sounds like your cat did much better wiith it.

I cut my kitty's nails too. At least, I started when she was small, so she's used to it now. I started by simply stroking her paws when she was sleeping, then Snip! Of course, now she's onto me. :teeth:

I use a regular (human) toe nail clipper. I find the blade is much sharper. Just don't cut into the pink area. I use to clip hers very short so I wouldn't have to clip so often. But after seeing all the animals loose after Hurricane Katrina, I let her keep them a bit longer now. If anything happens & she's running around loose, I want to give her a fighting chance. :(

Just a warning, once you start clipping them, you may have to keep doing it. Twice, I let my kitty's nails grow long because she doesn't really scratch anything except her cardboard scratcher. Because she wasn't use to retracting her claws and the ends are so curly, she got caught in EVERY piece of fabric there is! :rolleyes2 I thought after a few weeks she'd figure out how to keep her claws retracted, but no. I ended up clipping them again just to save her the frustration. :cat:

I clip my cats' claws too, with a clipper I bought at Petsmart. It looks like this:

I think it works great. Very sharp, snip snip snip and they're done! :cat: :cat:

I always clipped my dearly departed cat's nails. He would sit up in my lap, and I would gently press on the "knuckle" of his toe to make the nails stick out a little further. I clipped them about once a month or so with just regular nail clippers. Current kitty had already been declawed when we adopted him from the shelter.

I can only do 2 of my cats.. the 3rd is just too skittish... the 2 that allow me just sit in my lap like a human... and I do all 4 paws on both of them.. The don't even get nervous at all.. One of my cats actually falls asleep while I do it.. he gets so comfy! LOL!!

We take ours to the Vet to get this done, I am too scared to try myself, I don't think that he would let me hold him and he is a BIG boy! It is a very good idea though, he just slides down his scratch post now which DH and I find amusing but I doubt that he does!! :rotfl:

Both of our cats are declawed, but at the shelter where we got the kitten they were telling us about some sort of little pads that you glue over the cats claws to keep them from ruining your furniture, etc.

So for cats who won't let you trim their claws, or if you don't want to attempt it, that might be an option. I think it may have to be done at the vet or the groomer. The pads are supposed to stay on for about 3 months before they have to be redone.
