I cant believe someone did this! ( and that it worked??)

I was just reading an article about all the spin-offs of her site. I guess a LOT of people are starting to do it and most are getting quite a bit of $$ in donations!!

I saw her site a couple months ago and couldn't believe it. And now that I see how much money she's gotten, I REALLY can't belive it. It really irritates me, quite honestly. She racks up all those bills at places like Gucci and all those people pay off her bills while there are thousands of other people taking responsibility and are actually WORKING HARD to pay off their debt ON THEIR OWN. DH and I were talking about it and he joked that I should do it for my student loans. The thing is, I wouldn't even WANT to do it. That's MY debt, MY responsibility.

One spin-off site I saw was a (supposedly) single-mother working full-time plus going back to school. IF I were going to donate to anyone, it'd be someone like that, NOT someone who can't control her spending at Gucci!!!

there was a thread on the db about this a couple months ago. personally, i don't have a problem with it. i wouldn't donate money, but if she can get money from doing it, then more power to her.

Hmmm...the Disney trip idea is interesting. DD wants to go and so do I. So, if everyone from the DIS sends me $1.00, I think I could go.

I think it is crazy. But, if people fall for it, well, they are no better(brainwise) than the person asking for the money in the first place.

People can spend their money anyway they wish. LOL people also appreciate honesty so maybe that's how she got all that money. I might have sent her a $1

I sent the disney mother 5 bucks. We have been to disney 5 times in the past 2 yrs. One dollar for each trip we enjoyed. Maybe the DIS should adopt this mom? LOL!

Some guy went to my brothers door and was asknig for donations so he could go on a Honeymoon after his wedding...

The nerve, my brither and his family were barely making ends meet at the time and told him that if he could not afford to go on a honeymoon he should stay home and look for a better job.

I have to agree with you, Dopeygirl. I find it to be pretty irritating too. I can't imagine sending her money!

I could use the $5.00 donation too.

I think the DIS CB has helped someone out before but the situation was different. There are a lot of poster's around here who "want" to go and "dream" of Disney and haven't been. But I find this type of website absurd.

I got a really nice thank you letter from the disney mother. She really seems for real. I don't doubt for a minute she isn't telling the truth. She emailed me a photo of her daughter with the note. She is a very sweet little girl.
I figured 'what the heck', and sent them the 5 bucks to see what happened. Figured it could not hurt! I am glad to share some of my wealth and spread the happiness of disney! Life is about giving, not receiving. I sure hope it works and she gets to take her daughter to Disney! It may not be the conventional way to go, but I don't blame her for trying!

No it is NOT my site. Wish I had thought of it though! No - I would never have the nerve to do it! I don't need it! We have been very blessed in our life. I hope others are half as blessed as we are!

Personally, I wouldn't donate to such a site...but I have no qualms with those that do so. If you feel it is the right thing to do, and "makes you feel good" then go for it. And I don't think I'd have the nerve to set up a "beg" site, either (at least they're honest about it, though.) But, setting up a site that actually sells merchandise, and stating that your goal is to make enough for a trip or pay of debt - I have no problem with that

I see nothing wrong with what Karyn did. It's unconventional, but so what? She was on the radio in NYC she was also in People magazine and on the Today show after her debt was paid off.
I am thrilled to see people getting money in unconventional ways. Winning the lotto or setting up a website, whatever.

Should I feel guilty that someone gave me $53 on ebay for a costume that I bought for my son for $3.99? NO WAY!
