I know the "experts" say you should never deny yourself anything, so technically I am not denying myself this, I just am choosing not to....

For 4 weeks, starting from this very moment, I am going to choose not to eat McDonalds or Potato chips. They truly are my downfall, my weekness, my triggerpoints. I know this, and I need to just stop it for now. I want to get into the healthy food habit. Even though I can eat in points, eating fries and cheeseburgers just isn't going to get me healthier. So wish me luck, here I go....

********************Update******************

Just wanted to tell you guys that I am still holding fast! NO potato chips and No Mcdonalds since I made the commitment! I had substitued other chips and other restaurants, and slowly I have cut them out too. I don't eat any chips right now, only popcorn for my salty/crunchy treat. And eating out is almost non existent, we might eat out on our anniversary, but otherwise I am avoiding all fast foods too. Occasional cousins on Saturday after work, and I cut the 1/2 sub in half eat part of that for dinner and then the other 1/2 for work the next day.

What I've learned...
#1 I was VERY dependent on McDonalds, truly didn't know how bad it was.:(
#2 I learned that I can have a sandwhich at lunch and eat veggies and dip instead of chips
#3 Baby steps will get me to my goal
#4 I have found that I can survive without McDonalds!

thanks everyone for your support! Means alot to me!

YIPEEEEEEEE!!! I think this month of going without McD's and Chips will show as a big success for you!! When you think you just HAVE TO HAVE IT --- remember that one month isn't that long -- and you can have it in moderation in only 30 short days! [after you get control of this addiction of yours!];)

I am so proud of you for making this commitment!
:D

Good for you Vija!! I know you can do it!!!!! I LOVE Taco Bell and I swore it off while I am trying to lose the weight, and I HAVE NOT had any Taco Bell since before Jan 1st!!! Hard? yes...Impossible? No! But darn, do I want a mexican pizza about right now! LOL!!!

I believe in you! This is a huge decision.....but you can handle it! :)

Good luck! And whenever you feel like you are gonna cave in, come here...chat with us!

You can do it!

Kamy

Good choice vija! GOOD LUCK to you!

Vija, are you a Sesame Street fan?

For some reason (Friday PM insanity?) I just keep thinking of Ernie wanting to learn the saxophone. He was having so much trouble, until he realized that he had to PUT DOWN THE DUCKIE!

Now Vija's gonna PUT DOWN THOSE CHIPS so she can really get her weight loss jump started!!! Yay!

"Put Down The Duckie"

Excuse me, Mr. Hoots,
I hate to bug a busy bird,
But I want to learn the sax,
And I need a helpful word-
I always get a silly squeak
When I play the blues.

Ernie, keep your cool,
I'll teach ya how to blow the sax.
I think I dig your problem-
It's rubber, and it quacks.
You'll never find the skill you seek
Till you pay your dues.

Chorus:
You gotta put down the duckie,
Put down the duckie,
Put down the duckie,
Yeah, you gotta leave the duck alone.
You gotta put down the duckie,
Put down the duckie,
Put down the duckie,
If you wanna play the saxophone!

You didn't hear a word I said,
You gotta get it through your head.
Don't be a stubborn cluck,
Ernie, lay aside the duck!
I've learned a thing or two
From years of playing with a band:
It's hard to play the saxophone
With something in your hand.

To be a fine musician,
You're gona have to face the facts:
Though you're blessed with flying fingers
When you wanna wail, you're stuck-
What good are flying fingers
If they're wrapped around a duck?
Change the toy's position,
If you wanna ace the sax!
(Repeat chorus)

Don't have to put it on a train,
Don't have to wash it down the drain,
Don't have to lock it in a drawer,
Don't have to shove it out the door.
Don't have to put it in your pocket,
Or send it flyin' in a rocket!
Don't have to get it out of town!
Ernie, put the quacker down!

Kathy - ROFL!!!!!!!!!! That's too funny!!

Vija! You know you can do this! I know you can do this!! I too can afford a cheeseburger and fries from Mickey D's but there are more filling choices out there for me! Their new premium grilled chicken salads are quite tasty, if you must go there (and the casaer is only 5 points before dressing). :) I bet you will start discovering some wonderful alternatives during your month challenge. WISH is here for you!!!! :D You CAN do it!!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!! SOmetimes you have to temporarily give up those trigger foods until you are strong enough to stop!!!! I am soooo proud of you!!!!

Vija, I'm so proud of you! I know you can do this and in one month those fries will not only soundy yukky they will not taste as good as you remember either. I gave up fries temporarily at the beginning of the year and after a few months got to where I could just eat a couple from my kids' meals and then be done and really really not want anymore. They just didn't taste good anymore!

Be sure to find a substitute snack for your chips that is good. I just bought Rold Gold Sharp cheddar cheese pretzels - 20 pretzels for 2 pts and they are yummy. I have to be careful not to feel too deprived, and if you are that way too, find something else you like as much as those chips!

heck, maybe cold turkey will work for you! you are such a strong person!

PD and virtual willpower to conquer those cravings!

You guys are awesome! THanks for the encouraging words, and the song is really cute! Very true! I told my DH today, he thought I only said potato chips. Later at night the marathon came up again, and I said I feel so energized now, especially since I am choosing not to eat McDonalds and chips for a month... he stopped looked at me and said "You are giving up potato chips AND MCDONALD'S?????" I think he was quite surprised, but very supportive!

Way to go, Vija!! I can't remember the last time I had McD's, but I know it has been at least a month now!! Way to go on your new goal, that is awesome!! :):)

You will do it and we will all be here to support you!! :):)

Good luck, Princess!

ohMom gave me a no alcohol challenge (from last Monday to this Sunday) and it is working! :) I told her that if I have a beer or margarita on my cheat day that I usually end up in trouble... ;)

I think it's a good idea to challenge yourself once in a while in certain cases. You know there is nothing good for you in McDonald's food or chips. So giving yourself a month w/o them is a great idea! Give your body some time to adjust to life without them. Then at the end of the month, if you feel like you want some, you can have some and then see how your tummy feels about trying to digest those types of food.

You aren't depriving yourself of anything, you are choosing to eat foods that are better for you. :) Good for you!

Like Kamy, there are some things I am not allowing myself at all while I am on WW. I know I could fit them into my plan, but it would make my losing just a little slower and I would much rather get to my goal first and then add those little indulgences in here and there.

You can do it! :)

First of all, Kathy, you just flashed me back about 8 years -- my ds *loved* "Put Down the Duckie" when he was a toddler -- it was a musical staple in our house for several years!! LOL

Now, Vija, this is a great challenge you've come up with for yourself. From personal experience, I *know* you can do it. French fries, esp. McD's french fries, were my absolute weakness! Believe it or not, I went 4 months without having even one, and if I can do that, I *know* you can Princess V!!!

Good luck and check in with us if you feel yourself wavering!

Congratulations on making your decision to drop chips AND McDonald's, Vija! Good luck and isn't it great to know that you can just sign on to WISH if you feel your willpower slipping. ;)

Another suggestion for if you get the "crunchy munchies"...Orville Redenbacher's white cheddar popcorn cakes. I absolutely LOVE SmartFood white cheddar popcorn, but I've sworn it off till I reach goal. The popcorn cakes have that same taste, but two of them are only 1 point! (Yeah, they DO have a little bit of that cardboard taste that rice cakes and popcorn cakes are know for, but the white cheddar flavor helps to make up for it!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are doing a great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you and very proud of you! Thanks for the update. YOU CAN DO IT, YOU ARE DOING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't it feel GREAT to have this much control? Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I just read your update -- go Vija! I knew you could do it!! :teeth:

I'm a big one for something crunchy, too, but hated eating baked chips because of the hydrogenated oils. My mom gave me some Terra Chips to try -- they're made from root veggies: taro, sweet potato, yucca, etc. -- and they're delicious! No hydrogenated oils and you can have 10 big ol' chips (very filling!) for 3 points. I love them with a tuna melt for lunch.

Vija!
I am so proud of YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

The first 10 days are behind you. You've realized that you can do it ---- make a goal and be succesful at it. I am so happy for you!

HUGS for Vija!:D

YOU'RE DOING IT!!! I'll be sending extra wishes and prayers that the rest of your boycott goes smoothly. I LOVE Wendy's fries and Chick-fil-A sandwiches- and when we've had to go there during sports days and things that keep us busy I have been ordering the grilled chicken caesar salad- I couldn't believe those words came out of my mouth! If I really get a craving (around TOM) and need those fries I just cut up one potato toss it with olive oil and seasoning salt and bake at 350 for 45 minutes- they come out great and I usually can only eat half of them.

And for potato chip cravings- I love the Wheatsworth crackers with a small sliver of cheese- it hits the spot! Or carrot sticks and ranch dipping sauce- gotta love it!

You are such an inspiration and you're gonna be posting soon that the month is over and you survived- and I bet you won't even want those foods after adding lots of healthier food in your diet.

AWESOME!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
