I had to buy the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (2007) again this year. I buy it every year and 90% of the book is the same as what I read last year. I do like it for help with planning the meals though. The restaurant ratings tend to change from year to year.

I thought for sure there would be a write up this year about DVC but there is just a short blip about renting points from DVC members. Well, I'm off to read the rest :coffee: again.

I do the same thing! I buy one every time I visit, and it's kinda sad because the info is just about the same from year to year. I just have to buy the new one. It's my obsession. Now I'm thinking about getting TGM because this is the first time we are going to WDW for Thanksgiving. When does the madness stop? :teeth:

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who does that! ;)

I also buy one every year,...the madness doesn't stop with me.
At least we can be proud of our addictions. Disney is wholesome and magical. :wizard:

We usually buy one for my husband every year for Christmas. You are right that there is not much different from year to year but he loves reading it. We usually give our old ones to someone that is going for the first time or that hasn't been there in a long time. It makes us feel better if we can give it away rather than collecting dust. :yay:

I have quite a collection of Unofficial Guides. I keep telling myself I won't buy the 2007, there really won't be anything new, but let's see if I can control myself the next time I'm at the bookstore! ;)

It's sooo good to know we are not the only crazed can't get enough people!! Someone asked to borrow one of our books this year. I told them they more then welcome to come to my house to read it. Imagine- I can't let it out of my sight for more than a week. (I'm sad to say we keep 2005 issues in the bathroom for light reading!!)

We bought one for our first trip in 1998 but haven't since.

After all, there is a huge "unofficial guide" that is updated daily.

It's called the DIS Boards! :teeth:

I don't like that book enough to buy it, I do take it out of the library every so often, though.

Bobbi :)

This may make you annual buyers of the Unofficial Guide (or the Official Guide, for that matter) feel better...we've bought several versions...but we don't buy them annually. Two years ago I made our reservations (this was prior to DVC and prior to discovering Disboards), and then we decided we'd have fun w/"the books" making plans (that were almost sure to be thrown out the window within minutes of our arrival) in the weeks before we left.

That's when we discovered Disney Dining! And the change in park passes (used to be "length of stay" rather than separately-purchased park hoppers; also used to include the water parks w/out add'l charges)...

So, that year (was it 2004???) the book "saved us" by telling us early enough to be able to make the changes we needed to make to get Disney Dining (which we love) and figure out the park passes situation...

We find it a ton of fun to read thru all the "stuff"...seems we always find something we haven't seen (or remembered)...but we don't get the books every year...we got 2004's, and 2006's...and now that we've found Disboards not sure we'll buy it again--altho we might...

Anyway, maybe our story will make you annual purchasers feel better about your (harmless) addiction!

It's good to hear I'm not the only one!
My first "Bob Book" was pretty sad looking by the time we got back from our trip... but I handed it down to another family who was going... so that I could buy the new one.
I love all of the details and strategies! :thumbsup2

I have a collection that goes back to pre-1994. I have the one for each year back to 1994. Then I have an older one, but it doesn't have the year on it. Looking inside, I think it's around 1989. I'd love to buy the new one, but it's always been a tradition that one of my DSs buys the newest one for me for Christmas. So guess I'll have to wait!

Was it actually for 2007? I bought one about a month ago and it was still the 2006!

I buy the "Birnbaums Official Guide". It all started with my Honeymoon trip in 1990 and I've bought one every trip since. I just counted and I have 12 copies. When will it stop? I just can't help myself!

I was a little disappointed that the Turf Club at SSR wasn't even mentioned as a restaurant in the 2007 Unofficial edition...

what a great idea. We usually buy a new one every year that we go. And I always give my old ones to somebody who's going on their first trip. (I never buy the "official guide" I don't want to hear the party line. :rotfl2:

I can't help it either. As soon as I get the new one, I post the old one to www.paperbackswap.com. There's always someone looking for the most recent year. Then I get a new paperback to read for my next trip for free!!

I am shocked that I'm not the only crazy person who does this. I thought maybe one person would reply with, "Yah, I bought that in 1999 and haven't since." :rotfl2:

I noticed that too. Is this a brand new restaurant? On Deb's website with the menus, The Turf Club menu is listed as "new." :confused3

I'm with granny--I bought the 1998 guide, and haven't bought one since. I do peek at it in the bookstore, but my litmus test is the part about LeCellier--if it still refers to the "recent" renovations to a steakhouse, then I pass it by.
