This is my 3rd week of Atkins. The 1st two weeks I lost 7.5 lbs. Not great but pretty good. I decided to stick with induction as long as I could. I'm not really having a problem sticking to the food choices and keeping my carb counts low. Last week was a little trying as it was "that time of the month" and I had an Atkins bar to fight off the chocolate cravings, but that was it. This week I am up 1.5 lbs.

I started walking 3 days ago. I thought that would help burn the pounds off. That is the only thing different from the 1st two weeks.

As a matter of fact I have been cutting back on the allowed carbs. Am I hurting myself by doing this? Do I need to have at least 20 carbs to lose weight?

My Dh suggested that I was maybe building muscle and still losing weight. I didn't think muscle would make a difference that fast.

I didn't measure myself before starting. I thought the numbers would totally discourage me as I have so much weight /inches to lose. I haven't noticed ANY difference in the way my clothed feel.

I haven't bought the ketosis sticks. I plan on picking them up this week-end.

I guess I should also add that I have a Throid problem. But I have been on synthroid medication for it for about 15 years and just had my dosage checked. Since I am on the medicine shouldn't my throid be at an average level or does it still make it hard for me to lose weight?

I AM JUST PLAN CRABBY!!!!!!

i don't have any advice for you, but here is a hug

Look, it is a sad fact of life that women have a tendency to retain fluid at certain times of the month (except me--I have a tendency to retain fluid everyday :( ) The 1.5 pounds showing up on your scale is not a true gain if you have been following your eating plan.

Measure your salads and vegetables, dressings etc, to make sure you are not exceeding the allowed amount. Get a food scale and weigh out your cheese, it's easy to eat too much cheese.

After induction I continued to consume <20 grams of unrefined carbohydrates each day but I added different foods, that were low on the glycemic index.

Remember that cheese and eggs are not "free" foods. Eggs are basically 1 gram each ( .9 grams actually) and cheese has about 1 gram per ounce. Splenda also has 1 gram of carbohydrates for one little packet. Heavy cream has 6.6 grams in a full cup which comes out to about .41 grams per tablespoon. As you can see your 20 grams can get used up pretty quickly during a day.

I two suggestions for you:

1. Stop obsessing over a number on the scale. If you think about it there is no way you could have gained 1.5 pounds of fat during this time period. It is fluid and it will go away soon, I promise.

2. (I'll bet everyone is reciting along with me now) Measure yourself. When you aren't losing pounds on Atkins, you are usually losing inches. Measure yourself now. Your measurements are a much more accurate reflection of your success and progress. Think about it. Your goal is to get smaller, not lighter. If you could wear a size 6 or 3 or 0 or whatever your goal may be, would you really care if you weighed 300 pounds? I sure wouldn't.

Now, sweetie. Stop stressing yourself, next thing you know you'll be seeking out comfort foods ;) Measure yourself, don't weigh every day and smile. You are a WISHer now and you have lots of friends here who plan to help you reach goal. Life is good :)

BTW, if you are on synthroid and your tsh levels were normal, your thyroid function shouldn't be hindering your loss. The bloat fairy is hateful sometimes, {{{HUGS}}} and hang in there.

Hang in there hunny!!! I am in the same boat as you. I am 13 days into this diet and have only lost 5 lbs. (You are 2 up on me already) I do not see a difference in my cloths, I exercise every night, and I feel crabby also. The only thing holding me to this plan is the fact I know it works, I know I am doing everything I should be doing and eventually my body will have to give in and cut the weight back.

I am also going through the time of the month were that unwelcome friend decides to visit (Thank goodness I got it or that could have been a real 9 month weight issue) I am hoping some of that water weight will dissappear in a few days and the scale will reasure me that I am loosing.

Hang in there. You need to by the Keto sticks and use them. They are a good source of positive reinforcment when the scale becomes your enemy.

I Just started ATKINS this week. A lot of my coworkers are on it and so is my DH. He already lost 13 lbs in a little over two weeks, a friend of mine lost over 20 in a month!

I have some medical problems that I thought would keep from doing this diet, but I spoke to my doc and he said no biggie, go ahead and try.

So after years of trying WW and probably every other diet imaginable, here I come.

Wish me luck so maybe when I go to WDW in Sept. I wont be quite as camara shy.

Good luck to Jakesmom1! I know you can do it.

KeyKey, 5lbs is weight loss. You are headed the right direction. Keep it up!!!

Tina, it's okay to be crabby. You have lost some weight & that is great. I went through the same thing after I started Atkins. I was given some good advice. You shouldn't deprive yourself by eating as few carbs as possible during induction. If you are hungry, eat. Just don't go over 20 carbs. Watch out for hidden carbs & take Katholyn's advice, she knows what she's talking about. Do measure, water weight will go away & is not a true gain, measure your salads, dressing, cream, etc. It does tend to add up before you know it.

{{{HUGS}}} to all of you.

Thanks everybody, I'm feeling a little better this morning. I know all the advice you have given is true. I guess it was just all getting to me yesterday. I will measure myself today ( I might be back here then complaining I'm crabby again!) and get the sticks. I just weighed myself (I'm sorry nativetxn, I HAVE to weigh every day. It's a compulsion! I used to weigh several times a day so I'm doing better.) and I'm back down a pound after 5 days so I guess it is coming back off.
Once again everyone, thank you for your kind words and jakesmom and keykey , I know we can do this.
