Check in was flawless. Got our room by 2pm. Room was in general location of my request. Something in the old section close to the lobby is no longer "close to the lobby". Anyone who has not been here since remodel will find the first rooms in the old section are pretty far and you will experience more maze like walking to get to lobby, but it is not too bad. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Don't really care for location of the bus stop now, but the cafe right at the bus stop is a great place to get breakfast on the go. (one of my unanswered questions before I got here). They have croissants with egg, cheese and either bacon or sausage. I had the egg, cheese and sausage and requested it on an english muffin. It was a bit more, but well worth it. The egg is scrambled and they give you alot. They have V8 juice for those who might need it to get through the morning.

Evergreens still has good onion rings made from real slices of onion. I have to say I still dislike the pizza. Been trying it since 99 and my opinion will remain the same. (I think it is the garlic). The turkey club is awesome, but the chicken sandwich was dry. I suggest you stay away from the salads. We had the garden salad and it was a huge bowl of rather old, dry lettuce with 3 thin slices of cucumber and 4 tomatoes the size of the end of your little finger. My $5 was better spent somewhere else.
Have not eaten at Garden Gallery. We have run into some people here at the hotel and they have nothing good to say about breakfast or the dinner buffets.

The AAFES country store has everything you would need, so if you forget something, they will have it.

Only snag I have run into was at check in. We like to have our room prepaid. Originally, I had contacted SOG via e-mail and asked if we could do that and send additional money to sit in the acct for things like park tickets and on property charging like for the restaurants, etc. I was told that would be no problem, but the only place I could not do charging was the AAFES store. Well, I never got around to sending the extra "charging" money, but had miscalculated my room fees because I forgot about the deposit they took when I reserved the room. So, I had $99 for the "onsite charging". When we checked in, I was told I could not use that money for "room charging onsite", because I would need a credit card and a debit card was not accepted. Luckily, they refunded my money immediately, but in the event they could not refund immediately and I had sent in much more, it could have been a problem if we had been on a tight budget. I was told money could sit in the acct for park tickets, but nothing else can be purchased with that acct money unless I had a credit card. Just a heads up for anyone who was wondering.

We still have 7 more nights here, so if anyone has a question they want answered, I will do my best to answer it.

Hi Sleepy, I was just looking for info about SOG when I saw your post. We haven't stayed at the SOG since the remodel although we did walk through the resort. Currently we plan to be home on leave next summer and will be spending 6 day at WDW, it will be for my daughters 11th Bday and I am seriously considering SOG. I would love to do Beach Club but we just don't spend enough time in the Hotel to make it worth the extra money. We will probaby have one of DD's friends with us so the size of the rooms at SOG is really appealing. As far as food it is too bad their restaraunts aren't better but really we eat at the parks 99% of the time so it doesn't impact my decision.

Why did you choose a room in the older section vs the new? I was thinking a ground floor near the pool, any opinion?

I am just waiting for the dates of my H.S. reunion next summer so I can start plannin!

Hope you enjoy your stay! What would be a good room to request, 1st floor, close to bus stop, maybe?

What size container do they sell milk? Half Gallon?

Did they sell cereal?

Thats it.

I was disappointed last year when I went to SOG and found out they didn't sell pins.

There really aren't any rooms close to the bus stop. The closest would be in the old section and they really aren't too close. I'd say request the new section and enjoy the new furniture. :goodvibes

You could just walk across the steert and buy pins at the Poly.

I should have been more specific. I was hoping they were selling pins at AAFES prices. Some earlier posters had mentioned the price for a pin at $2-3.

The choice at AAFES is spotty, always has been. The new rooms are great, but there can be a long walk to the bus stop/lobby. Stayed there last year and we were really impressed with the changes. We ended up driving to most of the parks though, since my DS was at Fort Wilderness in her RV. By the way, what branch? US Army retired here.

How expensive are cereal, milk and breakfast items in the store? We are going to be staying there in January. To be close to the bus/lobby where would you suggest I request? Thanks for posting from SOG. This was a great suprise!!!! It really helps with the planning for a newbie :cool1:

Same branch but in the reserves after 10 active years. I wish I had known about the SOG when the family did our first trip in 2003.

Could have save some serious money.

We are going in 3 weeks and staying at CBR. My parents will be with us and have military privileges. Is it better to travel over to SOG and shop in the AAFES store or order from the Garden Grocer? We will have a large group with three toddlers, so milk, diapers, snacks and juice are high on our priority list. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Order from the Garden Grocer. The AAFES store has very few options for breakfast and most of the drinks they sell are in 1lt bottles. I don't know if they sell diapers - but, if they do - they will probably be small, convenience type boxes. For snacks, they mostly carry Pepperidge Farm cookies.

Thank you! The more research I did last night, the more I was leaning toward the Garden Grocer! I really appreciate the advice!

Are you going to be dining at Mangino's? If you are I'd be very interested in hearing how you liked it and would love to know what's on the menu. The one on allears is very old so I'm thinking things may have changed a bit. Enjoy your trip!

I honestly have no idea. We are a party of 11, so getting us all going in one direction is going to be an experience! We have reservations at Hollywood & Vine (Jo Jo Buffet) the Princess Breakfast at Epcot (Storybook Breakfast) and Chef Mickey. Other than that, we're flying by the seat of our pants. We thought too many reservations might tie us down. Any "must do's" would also be appreciated! We have a 3, 2 and 1 year old with us. Thanks!

Manginos has really good desserts, which is all we have tried. We ordered them from our room and then picked them up and ate them in our room. We have never dined at Manginos because it is expensive and the choices didn't look that great. I'd rather eat counter service in a park than pay $20/plate for food at one of Shades' restaurants, though.

We do like the pizza at Evergreen's, though. Unfortunately, the service is usually very slow and not very friendly. (We have experienced this every time over 5 or 6 visits over a 2 year period.) The ONLY reason we get any food from and Shades restuarants is because we are tired and it is convenient. And - then it will be pizza from Evergreens. Other than that, all of our meals will be in parks or off site.
